HI-I'm thrilled to hear from you-would you mind sending me copies of the documents regarding this family-are they the children of Hans and Anna Rosina? How fortunate for you that you could go to Germany and research this family-my maternal grandmother married a Foust and I am researching this for my mother. You can contact me direct at gabbygirl44@hotmail.com

Sincerely, Robin

Sorry for the late response. Yes, I'm writing about Anthony (1715-1806) and Peter (1707-1789), emigrants of 1742. I have copies of their baptismal records, parents baptismal, marriage and burial records, etc. found in Langenselbold. We were there last March.

As many know, they're mentioned only so briefly in Dr. Faust's book on Faust-Foust in America. An oversight that we're attempting to correct.

I can't help you with Emanuel Epler, but you should know that these Faust, Waltz, and Epler families originated in Berks & Schuylkill County, PA. There is a good chance that Emanuel's family started from there. I'll check for his name the next time I'm at the Historical society in Berks County.

Catherine can be found in her fathers will, which can be found at the Wayne County, Indiana courthouse. He died abt 1842 in Jackson Township. Jacob Kimmel was the administrator for the estate, and Michael Foust, John's brother, was a witness. His property went to his oldest son, John S. Foust. A few years later, most of his children moved to Henry County, Indiana.

Catherine's mother, Mary Waltz, b. 1791 near Schuylkill County, PA, was the daughter of Frederick Waltz & Mary Seltzer. Two brothers of Mary Seltzer married Faust. Frederick Waltz moved west from PA around 1820, first settling in Miami County, Ohio, and then in Wayne County, Indiana.

the First Faust's in PA is 1733. don't know of any before that date. most Faust's in PA are descended from 5 Faust emigrants, 2 in 1733, and 3 in 1742. All are related and come from one village near Frankfurt. I have about 10,00 Faust's in my database.

Hi
I'm the granddaughter of Mabel Faust, sister to the father of Blair Jr. The last I heard he was alive in 2006, maybe about 80 years old. There were 14 children in that family. I'm trying to fill in gaps in the tree, and I believe it goes back to 1690 in the US, when the original ancestor emigrated here.

Anya

Father Melchior Faust Urbach Germany>Holland>Baraga, MI (UP of MI)

According to the grave stone located in the Catholic cemetery at the Native American mission parish Holy Name of Jesus and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha in Assinins, Baraga Co. Michigan Melchior Faust was born in Urbach Germany November 4 1848, ordained in Holland on Aug 3, 1882 and died on May 22, 1916. He first arrived in the US on July 8, 1883. He became a US citizen in the Circuit Court at Marquette MI on May 10, 1894 and applied for a passport as a US citizen May 21, 1897. On the passport he said that he would go to Germany for a year and then return to Michigan. I do not yet know when he went to Germany but I do know that he returned on April 18, 1907. On the ship he was accompanied by his nephew Gottfried Faust of Cologne, Germany who said he was traveling to his “uncle, Rev. M. Faust Assinins Mich”.

Per a Google search information about missions and parishes where Father Faust was stationed in Michigan can be found at www.dioceseofmarquette.org/parishhistory.asp?parishID pages 136, 144, 151, 152 and 175. I would also look the book over to see if he is on other pages.

Gunter Hesse of Germany recently created a Faust family tree written in German. That tree was later modified to a degree into English by Peggy Harris and only listed the ancestors of Gottfried Faust b Dec 13, 1880 Cologne, Rheinland, Germany, arrived US Apr 18, 1907 and died in Waukesha Co. Wisconsin in about 1940. This Gottfried was the son of Johann Jacob FAUST bd. 3 Jan 1831, , , Germany dd. 25 May 1883, , , Germany. I believe Johann Jacob was Fr. Melchior Faust’s older brother.

If I am correct based on an interpretation of the research done by Gunter Hesse Fr. Melchior Faust’s father was Gottfried FAUST bd. 10 Apr 1794,occ. Löwengasse (Bäckerrmeister). Master Baker, dd. 14 May 1880, Cologne, Rheinland, Germany and Melchior Faust’s grandfather was Mathias FAUST bd. 8 Feb 1756, Cologne, Rheinland, Germany dd. 26 Oct 1809, Urbach, , Germany

Mary Quirk-Thompson

Hi Quilter2009,

I do not currently have an account with Ancestry.com, so I am not able to contact you privately. Please reply with your email address or contact me at sfaust929@gmail.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Herbert Faust is the only child of Alois Faust and Mary Lauer that I do not have much information for. That said, I do have lots of information, photos, and stories for his siblings, cousins, and his ancestors.

I did find his obituary in Eau Claire, that says he had a sign company in Milwaukee. I also heard that he may have done something with photography. I would very much like to learn more about him and his family.

His father, Alois Faust, was born in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin on the Faust homestead farm. He moved to Milwaukee around the turn of the century and married Mary Lauer. He worked at Porth Pie Company for many years. After his wife died he remarried Anna Hubacher, who I think was also a widow.

Alois' father (Herbert's grandfather), was Jacob Faust (1819 - 1877). He immigrated from Germany in 1854 and bought 80 acres of Land in Manitowoc County.

I look forward to talking with you through email so that I can send you photographs of family members and share more.

Thanks!
Scott Faust

Faust's father was Jacob Faust.

I walked a number of cemetarys in Bucks County looking for a family plot without success. I was looking for head stones for Jacob or W.T.

I do know and have seen Earl St. Clair is buried.
Re: Henry or Andrew Faust of Crossplains, Wisc

The father of (Anna) Mary Faust would be Andrew, not Henry.

Henry and Alvina (Begalske) Faust's children were John Christian, George Wesley, Benjamin Franklin, Florence Rae, William Henry, and Myrtle Agnes.

Andrew (Andreas) Faust was my great great grandfather. He was born in 1828 in Prussia but I don't know an exact date.

With wife, Anna Maria (Lorenz) Faust, and two sons, Heinrich and Christian, he departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived in New York City on 10 August 1861. He Americanized his name to Andrew and Heinrich became Henry. Henry is my great grandfather.

Andrew and Anna settled in Cross Plains and two daughters were born there, Anna Mary and Catherine (Kate). I don't believe there is a Peter. Peter was Henry's middle name. I am not aware of a Pearl and suspect she belongs somewhere else.

Henry married Mary Agnes Gerken. He died on 2 September 1929.
Christian remained a bachelor.
Mary married Motts Michaels then Victor Ulrich.
Catherine (Kate) married Phil Schneider.

Andrew outlived his wife and ended up in Parkston, South Dakota.

There are at least two different lines of Fausts in Alabama, but they are most likely from the same strain of the family out of SC. I have a Green Faust in Dale County, but wrong dates and no Berry. Maybe a grandfather of yours. I have SC Fausts in Dale County and Butler County, but the family has migrated all through the south and west. Would love to exchange data with you and learn more about your line.
Diana: Best to contact me directly at tsgator at earthlink.net Yes, your Smith-Miller is connected to the Faust line several times over. Although I'm a Smith, I spend most of my time researching the Faust line--it's much easier than Smith! Catherine Elizabeth Smith (1827-1885) married William Hilliard Miller (1817-1891) in about 1852. William Levi Miller (1856-1904) was their son. William Hilliard Miller's mother was Elizabeth Faust, daughter of John and Mary Faust. Catherine Elilzabeth's father was John C. Smith. His mother was named Rachel Faust, daughter of Peter Faust. I believe that John and Peter Faust were brothers. Both sons of Henry Faust, the emigrant ancestor who came into Charleston, SC in July 1735. I can provide much more information if you're interested. Contact me directly at above email address.
Betty: I can provide you with information on Clement's parentage. Yes, Daniel Faust (and his brother, General J. J. Faust) were printers for the state of SC. They printed all of the state stationary and legal forms for several years. They were sons of Jacob J. Faust one of the sons of the emigrant ancestor Henry Faust who arrived in SC in 1735 aboard the ship Samuel. It is believed that they were Swiss, although this is not 100% proven yet. Your ggg-grandmother Mary Caroline/Cornelia married a man named James W. Pierce, but I have no information on their children. Please contact me directly at tsgator at earthlink.net
Warren Smith

Could you provide the source for Catharine? I have not found her in records, and subsequently do not listed as a child of Peter & Anna Maria; Peter is the brother of my ancestor, Anthony Faust. I'm currently writing a book on Anthony and his descendants, but I'm including a chapter on Peter and his children.

I have been looking for my Grandfather's brother's family for ages. His parents were Charles Faust of Ashville, Ohio and Jsne McCann. who died in 1908. There were four children - Maude, Oakley ( my grandfather) Harry and Mary. After his wife's death Charles was married for a short time(name unknown). The woman was unkind to the children and Harry ran away when he was 16. I know that he spent many years in Oklahoma and believe returned to some place in Ohio late in life. He could have lived in Iowa at some time. I have a picture of his daughter, Hazel. Does any of this fit?

Leeann

I believe he married Sarah and had Clayton F Faust who married Olive M. Champion and they had Pauline born 1919 died 2001, Russell, and Norm who they gave up for adoption to Bredewegs in MICH. The census shows Clayton's father was Henry born in Germany and married Sarah. I believe they went to Canada and then to Michigan. Hope this helps.

Re: William L. Faust, Philadelphia and Atlantic City

I am still trying to find information on William L. Faust. I have learned more since my post of December, 2008, so here is an update.

William Levan Faust was born in Philadelphia, January 17, 1873. He was the son of William H. Faust, born in Philadelphia, October 16, 1849, died in Philadelphia January 16, 1907. His mother was Mary E. (Faust), born about 1844/45, who may have had the maiden name of Levan.

William H Faust was the son of yet another William Faust(born about 1824 in Berks Co, PA) and Sarah MAXWELL Faust. Sarah was born in England and was the daughter of William Maxwell and his first, unknown, wife. In 1860, in Coatsville, PA, William H's siblings were brothers Daniel, 8, Jesse 6, and John 2. There was also a 21 year old John Faust in the household, probably a brother of the elder (36 years old) William. Both were shown as shoemakers.

In addition to William Levan, William H and Mary E Faust also had two daughters - Maude, born about 1884 who married Willam J. McBride of CT and settled in Atlantic City, NJ by 1910. The McBride's had at least two daughters - Elsie and Katherine. Their other daughter was Blanche, born August,1870, but died February 24, 1873.

William H and Mary E. Faust lived in Philadelphia in 1870. In 1880 they lived with William H's aunt, Susana Adams, 55, at 2130 Jefferson St in Philadelphia. Ironically, this is three houses from he died in 1907.
In 1900 they lived on Master St in Philadelphia.

In 1901, William Levan Faust married my grandmother, Mary Catherine Cathell Wyatt, but they separated and by 1910 he lived in Atlantic City, NJ (near his mother who was living with the McBride family), working as a bartender. His wife, Mary, lived in Berlin, MD, with her daughter from her first marriage (to Charles Henry Wyatt), Mary Virginia Wyatt, and Mary Virginia's husband, James Derrickson Cropper.

William L and Mary appeared to have reconciled and by 1918 were living together at 1230 Stiles St in Philadelphia. William worked as a repairman for Gimbel Brothers Department store. By 1920, Mary was in the Philadelphia Hospital for the Insane. She died, most likely still there, on March 23, 1923. William lived with my father,(his step-son), Harry, Sr, on Kingsessing Ave in Philadelphia in 1930. He died sometime after 1930.

Does anyone recognize any of these names? Appreciate any and all info.

Harry Wyatt

I am looking for information on the Fausts and their connections to the MILLER and SMITH families. Specifically, I am told by my relatives that my ggg-grandmother Catherine Elizabeth Smith (1827-1885) who married William Levi Miller (1818-1891) was a descendant of the Fausts but I have no correlating information. My information stops with her parent's names, John and Catherine L Smith.

My tree seems to coincide with tsgator's but before I add anything to my tree I would like to make sure.

Any information appreciated! I am willing to pay for copies and postage of any documents, etc.

Diana (lafrando at ancestry)

I think you will need to contact me through private email, since I am not currently and Ancestry.com member, and I do not have your contact information.

Regarding our family, if my information is right, your mother is Virginia. Your grandfather was also Andrew J. Faust (born 10/10/1890), and his parents were Adam Faust (7/4/1866 - 12/12/1912), and Christina Wolf (born 12/1869). Adams parents were Jacob Faust (10/25/1819 - 7/1/1877) and Concessa Becker (10/24/1842 - 8/29/1920). Jacob Faust immigrated from Germany in 1854.

Your great grandfather, Adam Faust, moved to Milwaukee in the late 1880's with his brothers Philip, Ernest, and Alois, and his sister Gertrude.

I have many photographs that might be of interest to you, as well as records. I have several questions for you that I will save for private email.
hello Dianna,

Well, you and I are first cousins-once-removed.

Your grandfather, Frederick and my father, Milton, were brothers. My dad was the youngest of that family.

Vincent
Sarah,
Frederich
Milton

I think that was the order. My notes are in some box some where that I can't locate right now.

Your Dad, Bruce and I are first cousins. Bruce and I met one time, when he was a teenager and I was in about the 4th or 5th grade. Their family came on a trip from Texas through NC to see our Grandmother, Marie Elizabeth Bickel Faust (wife of Rev. Jacob Nicholas).

As best as I recall, your list of first names are the ones that I remember, going all the way back to Bernhard.

I just discovered last week, that a man in my little church, his mother was a Bickel. From the same general area as our Faust and Bickel's came from -- Montgomery county in PA.
He has some info, so I am HOPING that we can connect our Bickels.

I can only go back as far as Amanda Scholl, who was Marie Elizabeth's mother.

nice to hear from you.

We are having a most beautiful Spring here in eastern NC, I hope you are, too.

Eric Milton Faust
1st Cousin- Once-removed.
:-)
