Virgina - what is your line back to Heinrich? Heinrich's line is mainly in the PA, NJ, NY, Ohio and northern US to the west coat at least in the early year. Heinrich came from the area known as the Palatine. This was an area under the Holy Roman Empire and predates Germany although the language of the area was German. Indications are that Heinrich was born in the Duchee of Lorraine. "FABER" was a humanistic name that was imposed by the Romans on mainly families. The name "Fauver" in the 16th century was found in areas such as England, Jersey Islands, Britanny, Pas-de-Clais, Bretagne, Ardennes, Charente, Braunschweig, Wuertemberg, Bayern, Austria, and Switzerland. Becaused Heinrich lived in the Palatinate he would have spoke German. German and English were widely spread in the colonial times. In fact it was only by a small margin that English became the official language of the United States. I would be interested in your line and any information on Heinrich's brother. Indications are that "Fauver" is the proper spelling of the family name back to the 16th century. Other spelling have been caused by bureaucrates who were not particularly interested in proper spelling. Also remember that most immigrants were not able to read/write so names were often spelt phonetically.
