Lana, Your John Fayne is related to my family (Faine). He may have been a son of one of my grandfather's half brothers. My grandfather was Riley Faine in WV. His father was James Fain from Patrick County Virginia. James along with his parents and brothers and sisters migrated from Patrick County Virginia to Mercer County WV to Pike County KY, to Portsmouth Ohio and at last James, his father Daniel, and at least one brother came to WV (Mingo, Wayne, and Logan counties).
My family of Fain's were the only people with that name in Lawrence and Scioto Ohio at the time that I am aware of. Also, Andrew Fayne, who is definitely my great-grandfather's son, spelled his name as you do.
My family still lives in Logan county. My great-grandfather, James Fain married first Maria Barnhart in Lawrence county, Ohio. They had Daniel, Edward, Mary, and Andrew that I know of.
Maria must have passed away around 1870 or so. James came to WV (Wayne County) after that and he married my great-grandmother, Sarah (Tilay) Prince.
James Fain children by Maria Barnhart remained in Ohio (in and around Lawrence and Scioto). You can find them with their Barnhart grandparents after their mother passed away.
I believe John was a son of my great-grandfather or of one of his brother's children. I believe his is the son of James Fain and a half brother of my grandfather, Riley Fain.
The reason I am not as far removed from the early line as yourself is that my grandfather, was born in 1895 and part of James Fain's second family.
