Hello, got your post and yes Wm M. Featherstone was married to a Frances Mills of Hendersonville, NC. She apparently had several children that were born in the 1890's,Laura, Helena, Wm Jr, and Lindy Featherstone. Do you know if any of the Featherstones were Indians or some other nationality? How do I find school records back that far? Those records would give families a lot of information.

Hey Barbara! Long time!

I know a few Mills that say that they are related to Featherstones in Hendersonville. Give me a week or so I'll look into it further. I have time next week and can find out more.
I am going to Hendersonville tomorrow. I can post some more images of Lucy's grave. I saw your post on a site a few days ago from 2006 with her grave.

Vaughn.
I am on Facebook as "Idris Salaam".

I'll be going by there the week of March 6-12. I don't believe the names of the children were on there. Lucinda had her own grave stone. The children had fieldstones around it. But I do believe I have the names of a couple of them in my files in storage. I have to dig for them.
I'll try to have all of the information by next week.

I also had spoken to a Barbara Spencer some years ago who lived in Arizona. I lost contact with her when I changed my email and forgot to get her information out before deleting my old account.

I live about 20 minutes from the Ebanezzer Church in Hendersonville, NC. On it's grounds it has an old cemetery that contains slaves. One such slave, Lucinda Featherstone, is buried there with her 6 (or 7) children.
There is also a few other Featherstones buried there. I think a David and 2-3 more. I have to check. I lost a lot of my information but access to the cemetery isn't a problem.
I still have some of the information though.

I have picked it back up.
I grew up in NY (the Bronx) and have met a few Featherstones since my original post in 2000.
Hi there,
Thank you very much for your reply! It has been very helpful and I think that there is a good chance that one of the two men that you have found for me is the Mr Featherstone that I am looking for! After some research I have discovered that my GG grandmothers maiden name is Heyes and that is the name the my great grandfather took possibly because he did not know about his father or the shame of being a child born out of wedlock in that era. I do not have access to the birth certificate of my great grandfathers and will not do so for several years as it is in England and I am in New Zealand. We think it was due to military service but I'll follow up those two links you sent me! Again thanks very much.
Have a nice evening

Hi everyone,
I am trying to find out information about a Mr Featherstone who was a Canadian soldier in WW1. He was the father of my great grandfather Frank who was born in 1917. My parents always told me that he left before the child was born or left soon after the child was born and that he died not too long after before making it back to Canada. He would've been stationed in Kent, England where my great-great-grandmother Maud Elizabeth? Brann (from second relationship/husband)was living at the time. Not sure what her maiden name was as I am currently unable to access the information. Any help would be great! Thanks

No, I haven't seen an immigration record. There is a ship's manifest in 1907 which shows Sarah arriving in Canada. The 2nd document is border crossings from US to Canada in Mar 1917

Hi Aiden, I'm Jane & I'm trying to link the name Featherstone to an aunt of mine. She was Sarah Eliz Harrison, born 1896 in Goole, Yorkshire. Immigrated to Canada in 1907 with her father, George Wm Harrison & his mistress, Elizabeth Lingwood & their 2 girls (my great grandparents). My grand Uncle remembers Sarah coming to visit when he was about 7-possibly 1927. Her son was Garnet(t)Featherstone-no father's name-trying to find the link between the families. Maybe you can direct me? Hope to hear from you.

I have been working on a One Name Study of the surname since about 1997, I have the southern states well covered from other Featherston(e) researchers but the Northern States are still a bit of a mystery. I am based in the UK and produce a quarterly newsletter for about 100 researchers of the surname.
You may have come across our web site featherstone-society.com

Paul

Hello,

My name is Kathryn and I live in New York. I'm on the other side of the family, Mary Featherstone is my great grandmother. Mary Featherstone married Micheal Pendergast, they had two children, James and Margaret. James is my grandfather. Margaret had three children, George, Steven and Lisa. James Married Flora McDonnell and had four children, Brian, Steven, Jean-Marie, and Eileen. I have the details but incase you were building a family tree I figured these were some more names for you to fill in. Each family member has since lived in either New York city or on long Island. According to family rumor Anne Rankin moved to the U.S to be some sort of hired help, though the Rankins were a well off family that could afford schooling.

Thanks everyone for all of your help!! I found out that Burwell and David Grant are brothers (sons of John Grant). They married Featherstone sisters, Charlotte(Burwell) and Faith(David), daughters of Charles Featherstone. Charles married Jean Wright, but she may not be his first wife or mother of the girls. They also had 4 boys, William, Hezekiah, Carolus and Jeremiah.

I think you mean 1750 for Burwell. There is a Burwell Grant listed in the 1782 personal tax roll for Halifax, Virginia online.
I do not have these people in my database yet, but would suggest that you try to open the trees at the following links, or search google for
"Burwell Grant" "Charlotte Featherstone"

They shut down my firefox browser when I tried to open them, but I am also blocking ads.

Grant Family Tree:Information about Charlotte Featherstone
familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/f/r/o/.../UHP-0210.html
Charlotte Featherstone was born Abt. 1750, and died date unknown.
I'm sorry forgot to add. I'm not sure of her birth,1730-1750. Burwell or Burrell was born around 1850. There families are from Halifax, VA. They had a daughter, Elizabeth who married Moses Grant. I believe Burwell was David Grant's brother. Who were Charlotte's parents? Possiblly Charles Featherstone?
