"Henry Federlin
Mr. Federlin, age 86, of Charlotte, NC died on October 8, 2005.
Born on June 10, 1919 in Furth, Germany, he was the son of the late Dr. Sigmund and Elsie Federline.
In 1939, Henry moved to New York City, NY from England, where he had been working as a tool and die maker. He joined the United States Army in Sept. 1941 and served in the 999th Signal Corp until he was discharged in 1945. While in the service, he was awarded a number of citations including the Liberation de la France. Upon returning to the United States, he joined his parents in Ohio where he enrolled in the University of Cincinnati, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, and was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society.
He worked as an electrical engineer for Wright Patterson Air Force Base, National Cash Register, General Electric, RCA, and the Federal Aviation Authority [Administration]. He took a great deal of pride in having been involved in the research and development of early computers, radar systems for the FAA and various projects for NASA [National Aeronautics & Space Administration].
He was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He served on the Board of Directors of Temple Beth Sholom in Cherry Hill, NJ where he resided for over 40 years. He was an active member and local officer in The B'Nai B'rith Lodge. As a Holocaust survivor, Henry felt strongly about the separation of church and state, and the freedom of religion. His hobbies included bridge, 'tinkering', travel, swimming, listening to classical music, reading, and visiting museums and formal gardens.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Bonem Federlin of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his daughters, Barbara Federlin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Carol Baldwin and her husband, Creighton, of Charlotte, NC; his son Tom Federlin and his wife, Nancy Sutin, of Saratoga Springs, NY; as well as his grandchildren, Ben Federlin of Saratoga Springs, NY, Rachel Federlin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lisa, Lori, and Lydia Baldwin of Charlotte, NC, Leslie Baldwin Clark and her husband, Neill, of Wilmington, NC and Lindsey Baldwin Kasten and her husband, Kevin, of Galveston, Texas.
Graveside services will be on Monday, October 10, 2005 at 2:15 PM at The Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave., Charlotte, NC 28206. The family will return to the home of Carol Baldwin. Those who wish to make contributions in Henry's memory may do so to Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226, or any local chapter of The B'Nai B'rith Organization.
