Hello,

I'm French and I search my family who calls FEDOR. My grand grand mother (died) called Anne FEDOR and was born in Piwoda in 1903 (district Jaroslaw), maried with Vitali SWIRGOSKI. Her father called Antoine FEDOR and her mother Victoria GOLAB. My grand grand mother had five brothers and sisters : Michel, Antoine, Jean, Marie and Catherine FEDOR born in Piwoda near Wiazownica. Anne FEDOR was gone to France in 1920 to work. I imagine that my grand grand grand father (Antoine FEDOR born in Piwoda in 1867) maybe had brothers and sisters...

I am looking for information on the Fedor family. My husband has a "Mary Fedor" in his ancestry (his great-great grandmother), but she married John Kolesar (Kollesar). From what I know, Mary was born in approximately 1891 and immigrated to this country in 1913 from Slovakia. She may have been known as 'Maryanna'. She and John lived in Braddock, PA as their oldest child, Mary Kolesar, was born in Braddock in 1916. I found the Kolesar family in the 1920 census records for Braddock Ward 1, PA. Do you think that your Mary Fedor and mine could be related?

We grew up with Susie, Anntionette and Lucy Zoldosh.

How old are you & where did you grow up? Lucy & her husband Mark still live in Babe & Tunchy's house next door to two of my Aunts.

Keep in touch and below is my direct email address.
Not sure if they called my grandfather 'babe' as this is my fathers side, and my father did not really keep touch. My grandfather also passed before I was born. I do know that my great-grandmother on that side was referred to as 'bubba' if that helps at all. I also know that the majority of that side of my family, at least only a few generations ago, were hungarian immigrants. Check out this link, it may help you out...

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/pramsey/htmg14.htm

All Fedors, even including Leo H. Fedor Sr

Wouldn't it be neat if we could all get together? I haven't seen Susie since she was about 15. Julie and Richie came down for my son Leo's wedding. Richie was such a good guy. I only met Pete once because he went into the service. I used to write him though. He was a good kid too. I guess I was about 20 and maybe he was 17.

My daughter MaryAnn met Debbie McGraw at Richie's funeral. She lives about 20 miles away and her daughter is up above Trenton ( State Capitol). Chris, the oldest is not married and my black sheep, Leo and Fran have 2 black labs, their"children" and they are Grandma's boys also.

Leo is 1/6 and she is 1/5. They don't want any kids. Well I gotta go. It is almost 7:00 and we close at 8. M and W are my nights to work. No computer at home yet. Well one that I can call mine. My daughter in law's father gave her 2, neither of which works. When I get mine I will be on it all night. Good to hear from you. Regards Marie

Hi..I had posted a message a couple of years ago and Debbie McGraw answered me. I had asked about Henry. I was married to Henry & Annie Fedor's oldest son, Leo. They had Leo, Richie, Tommy(Pete), and Susannah.

I met Bubba, so sweet. Are you related to Georgie Zoldosh? I know Bubba was married to an Emerick. She had Mike, Babe and Annie. I don't know if he died or whatever but she had married Zoldosh and had Georgie who was a bit older than me. I married Leo at 19. Had Chris, Leo, and MaryAnn was in the belly when Leo took off with Clair Zeltner's wife. She left 5 kids and he left 3. I'm no prize but I never left my kids.

I never met any of Babe and Tunch's family. I think Leo said she couldn't have any. 49 years dulls the memory a bit. Thanks for answering me. Debbie McGraw said Henry went to Cleveland and got remarried there...but no names, dates etc. Family records aren't complete without that.

I'm so glad to hear from you. Let me know about your family.
Regards, Marie Jester

Jim - Thank you - I would love anything you have. She was born in Austria and that is all I know. I haven't dug really hard but my Vatzy Grindle ancestors are very illusive. I'm so excited to see what you have. Can't wait. (It's got to be right since it's Vatzy/Grindle!!!)

looking for info about my great grandfather Gregory Fedor

Hi

I'm searching for info regarding my Great Granparents : Elisabeth Kovalik and Gregory Fedor (Hungary)

Gregory was a professional chef in Budapest and owned his own farm which was 20 km from Budapest.
They married in Hungary, had 2 girls and then Gregory's brother from Trenton, NJ convinced him that the USA streets were paved with gold and that they should come to work in the liquor business this during prohibition. That lasted only one year (too dangerous) and they returned to Hungary. My grandfather, George was born in Morrisville, PA just across the state line in Buck's County.

In his wisdom, Gregory had leased his farm for only one year. They returned to Hungary, had another girl, but he died soon after.

Unfortunately I have no idea about their 3 daughters but would appreciate hearing any info.

If it helps, 15 years later when my Grandfather was 16, he emmigrated to Trenton, NJ with funds provided by his uncle John? (Janos?)

I don't know if you are still reading this board. I must have missed it for so long. Anyway. Tunchy's name was Antoinette and Uncle Babe was Frank Zoldosh, I am not sure of Tunchy's last name. They had 3 daughters Antoinette, Susie and Lucy. Henry Fedor married Annie Lessie Emery, I have a little on decesendants there but not many ancestors. Annie was the daughter of Joseph Emerich and Anna Lesho. Anna Lesho was my great grand mother and she married John Zoldosh. Please email me if you need more djramsey@sbcglobal.net, or check my web page. http://www.geocities.com/debi0713

I am trying to locate information on Andrew and Mary Fedor from Brownsville, PA, I believe. Mary would be my husband's great aunt (his grandmother's sister).

Mary's maiden name was Zsolcsak. Mary was from Forro, Hungary and was born in the 1890's. I believe Andrew was born around the same time in Hungary.

They had two children, Andrew and Mary. After that I am lost. I had found the family in the 1930 census. The children were born around 1916 and 1918.

The social security death index lists the senior Mary and Andrew, Jr. as being deceased.

If anyone has any information regarding the family and their desendants, please e-mail me. Thanks.

I'm looking for information on Vasil's from New Jersey, and possibly, Pennsylvania.

My mother was Regina Vasil (b. 1936 - d. 2002). Her parents were Susan Fedor (b. 1916 - d. 2003) and Michael Vasil (b. 1914 - d. 1972); they lived in Jersey City, New Jersey. I do recall my mother saying that her mother's family originally came from Slovakia to Pennsylvania. Susan had three sisters: Marya from NJ (b. 1912 - d. 2000), Anna from NJ (b. 1914), and Helena from Slovakia (b. 1920).

Susan's parents were Andrew Fedor and Rose ?. Michael's parents were Andrew Vasil and Susan ?.

Marya was married to George Toth (b. 1920 - d. 1975).

Helena was married to Michael ? and had three children: William (b. 1945), Florian (b. 1952), and Theresa (b. 1950).

I'd love to hear from anyone who may have a link to our line and may have more information. My mother had told me the name of the village in Slovakia that she lived in until age 11. I should have written it down; my mom passed in 2002.

Thanks.
My mom is Naomi Jean Zoldosh she is Steven Zoldosh and Wava Hamilton's daughter. Babe and Tunchy were her aunt and uncle, for some reason I have that they had 3 daughters, I will have to double check with my mom she would know for sure, I thought they had a son Frank too who married a woman in the Phillipines and brought her home and they had a daughter about my age. I will double check with my mom but I remember playing with a this girl and darn if I can remember her name, but her dad was I believe Babe's son. . Bubba was my great grandmother, she had Frank (Babe), Steven (my grandad) and George, they have all 3 passed on. Bubba also had Mike, Annie and Joe Lesho.. John Zoldosh was also married prior to Bubba he had Mary, John and Joe. Joe was 1 on the 1910 census but was gone by the 1920 census so he must have died in between 1910 and 1920 and so did John's 1st wife because by 1920 John had married Bubba. I will double check with my mom about Babe and Tunchy's kids but I am pretty sure they had some.

George Zoldosh died in 1979. He had a heart attack which is what happend to my grandad Steven.

Debbie Fridge Ramsey

All 3 have past, my father had told my mother that there were several siblings but my aunt who was the eldest disagreed and would never talk about her childhood. The last name per an artical of a legal name change stated the last name was FEDOROWICZ. If anyone has any info or any suggestions on where to look further it would be much appriciated.
Albuquerque Journal - January 8, 2003

John L. Fedor, 79, resident of Albuquerque and Estancia, NM since 1978 passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janet M.; daughters, Margo Holzey and Gail Holcomb; step-children, Tina Kannard, William Swansinger, Sandra Larupe and Bruce Swansinger; grandchildren, Paul Lindow, deceased, Brandy Freechack and Abe Labadie; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Christine Labadie, and Mercedez Swansinger. He was born and raised in Twinsburg, Ohio with his siblings, Frank, Carl, Abbey, Steve, Joe his twin, Marge and Betty, all deceased, Ed of Roswell, NM and Bill in MO. He began his three year stint with the U.S. Army's 1st armored Div. under Gen. Patton as a tank Driver. The first thing he did when discharged, was buy his Harley Davidson, his love. Being a farm boy and learning mechanics and welding, he was a most versatile and adept man. There was nothing he could not do, repair or make. Crosses adorn churches in Ohio, wrought iron railings, gates every where. He built, installed the inner workings of the frozen food operation for Stouffers new plant in Solon, OH in the 70's. He could tell you the size of anything within an inch just by looking. Needed something made or fixed? He'd say"No Problem." Need a tool for a job and there was none? He'd make one. He loved his family, dancing, camping, his Harley, his dog, Buddy, and puttering around in his barn. All who knew him loved and respected him. He was always there to help anyone in need. Oh, how he is missed. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, January 7, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at San Antonio Catholic Church in Tajique. A Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 8, 2003, 10:30 a.m. with Father Anthony Martinez officiating. Full military honors will follow the Mass. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. Grant G. Preston, Funeral Director. 505-832-6130.
Re: John and Elizabeth Fedor

I am researching my maternal grandmother's line whose origins were in Pereny / Hym Hungary before 1920 when the two towns were incorporated into the Czechoslovak Republic and became Perin / Chym. This town is very close to that of your Fedor ancestor, Janok, Hungary or as it is known to-day 'Janik' Slovakia. Both towns are within walking distance of the Hungarian border today.

My grandmother was Filipko Maria (1881 - 1925) and her sister was Filipko Klara (1885 - ) who entered the U.S. in 1910. According to the Ellis Island record her destination was the home of her 'brother-in-law' Fedor Janos who lived on Buckeye Rd. R.T. 6 in Cleveland Ohio. I have no knowledge of the Fedor / Filipko connection but you mentioned the name 'Kravelecz' which 'resonates' from conversations between my mother and her sister many years ago. My mother was born in 1914 and came to Canada in 1933 so it is unlikely that she ever met her aunt Klara Filipko after the latter emigrated to the U.S. and became a permanent (?) resident. My mother was born in Abaujker Hungary which is about 25 miles distant from Pereny / Hym (or Him as it was spelled in the early years) so there was likely little contact with the Filipko side of the family either in Hungary or with Klara in Cleveland where she was aware that an aunt was a likely resident.

I have a great curiosity as to whether my great aunt Klara might have left descendants in the Cleveland area and I am looking for any clues that might cast some light on my research. The John Fedor (Fedor Janos) connection is the only connecting thread I have at the moment. Whether your ancestor is one and the same is a possibility worth investigating.

I live in the Niagara area of Ontario and not that far from Cleveland and given some leads I will likely follow up with a visit to Ohio.

Regards, Nicholas

NY Fedors?

My great-grandfather was Michael Fedor who came to the U.S. around 1908 (to escape a draft?) from Budapest, knowing 5 languages, English not one of them. He lived in NYC and later his father seems to have come to this country (also a Michael -- his wife was Catherine Cusack) and moved to upstate NY. He wrote a letter to his son in a Slovakian dialect. Does anyone know anything about these Fedors? Also, I'm curious if anyone knows whether the surname Fedor is more common in the Catholic or Jewish communities of eastern Europe.
