Fedrick Family Research

Dear Matthew:

I understand your Fedrick ancestral outline to be as follows:

Charles Ray Fedrick m. Unstated
Doyle R. Fedrick m. Stephanie Hodge
Matthew Fedrick.

It would be help if you could provide more information, including the wife (with maiden surname) of your grandfather. Also, do you know the name of Charles Ray Fedrick's father?

What are the life dates (birth, marriage, and death) of ancestors you have identified?

You also should indicate whether the family is black or white. The Fedrick family owned much acreage in Mississippi and employed slave labor to work it. As was the custom, many slave families took the surname of their owners.

Mendenhall is not far from (about ten miles) the Poplar Springs Cemetery where many with the Federick surname are buried. See:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=62...;

And, Mt. Olive, Mississippi, is only about thirty-five miles southwest of this cemetery. Thus, your family was in the area of known members of those with the Fedrick surname.

You probably will find those with the Fedrick surname buried elsewhere in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. The head of this family is believed to be Radford Jones Fedric/Fedrick (1819-1891), whose origins were in Person County, North Carolina. More about him can be found in the Caswell County (North Carolina) Family Tree:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=caswellco...

Caswell County, North Carolina borders Person County.

You should consider joining the Frederick National Heritage Program message board:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FNHP/

It has 161 members interested in the Frederick surname (all the various spellings, including Fedrick/Fedric).

Ancestry.com can be a great help and is free at many large libraries. And, the Family Search site is free:

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Best regards and good luck,

Rick Frederick
rick@nccha.org
Moderator of this Message Board

Fedricks in Georgia Militia, War of 1812

On Ancestry.com's database, War of 1812 Service Records, there is a listing for two Fedricks in the same regiment in Georgia:

3rd Regiment (Few's), Georgia Militia

John Fedrick
Stephen Fedrick

Does anyone claim these on their family trees?

In 1820, a John Frederick and a Stephen Frederick appear in Knox County, Kentucky. I am not claiming they are the same people but the two names caught my eye in searching.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Michele

There is a family in Texas with all of the info on the above, rak@fredrickfinancialltd.com Apparently the Fedrick name was changed for whatever reasons and some of the family no longer has it as original, Fedrick.
I have a John S. Fedrick that was born in South Carolina in 1799, but moved on to Georgia and then Alabama. I don't know just when he arrived in Alabama, but he was married in 1820 to Elizabeth C. Whiteside in Limestone County, AL and in 1828 received a license to sell spirits in Athens, AL. By 1830 he had moved to Tennessee. This could be the same family. Do you have any information further back?

Phyllis Carson

I am looking for a Stephen Fedrick who fought in the War of 1812 in 3 Regiment (Few's), Georgia Militia. I am wondering if he is the brother or a cousin of John S. Fedrick who was also in the 3 Regiment (Few's) georgia Militia. My Fedrick was in Alabama for a while, then to Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and then a return to Kansas. In 1828 John S. Fedrick received a license to sell spirits in Athens, Alabama. John married in 1820 in Limestone County, Alabama. John was born in 1799 in South Carolina, but must have moved at an early age to Georgia and then on to Alabama. Phyllis Carson

I realize this is quite old, but you know there were 3 daughters of Stephen and Elizabeth (Betsy)Fedrick ~ Sallie, Bettie, and Stephen Abbigail. Elizabeth's maiden name was Cotten. Stephen there is 1850 census and not there in 1860 census. My family has been seeking info on him for years and Dad and 2 brothers are leaving in 2 weeks for a trip to Wilcox County to see what they can dig up. Stephen Abbigail (Abbie) was my great-grandmother. She came out to Freestone Co., Texas after Sallie came out. Guess Bettie ended up in Florida? or stayed in the area of Wilcox Co.?
Let me know if you have found anything out and I'll stay in touch when Dad gets back to share with you anything they find.

Is anyone out there researching Jessee Fedrick/Fredrick born 1814 in Alabama. He was married to Sarah. I found them in the 1880 Edinburg, Leake Co., MS census. I think I have found my Nancy Ann Jane Fedrick Smith. But I am not certain. I did see that Jessee and Sarah named a daughter Viney Clementine. My Nancy named a daughter Clementine as well. The age and place is right for my Nancy Jane, but would like to find them on more census and find another researcher to compare notes.

There is a Jesse married to an Elizabeth with children there in 1860. I got busy on my Nabors line..found a bunch of them and need to get back to the Fedrick's. I don't know if this was her maiden name or if she had been widowed. She was born abt. 1855 in Alabama. I have heard that she had the surname Peebles and Cotton in her line but have not been able to trace. Do you think this is a connection in some way?

Hello I am a sibling of a Lonnie Fedrick, Jr. of Hazelhurst, Ga I believe he relocated to Atlanta, GA. Was married to my mother Marian Fedrick of Miami (divorced I think,I am not clear on that). I was told I have other siblings as well from a recent marriage. I found out he died in 1993.(I'm not sure on that either, information was given by Social Security). I have been looking to meet him or any family members. Please contact me at my email address:beverlyldy@aol.com or my home # is (305) 944-1140 if you have any information that you wish to share.

Daddy hadn't seen his Uncle Tom since Daddy was very young, and didn't know what became of him or his family. I am interested in corresponding about your family, if you will agree?
John S. Fedrick

Looking for information on John S. Fedrick who was born in South Carolina in about 1800. He married Elizabeth C. Whiteside in about 1820 and their first children wre born in Alabama. Their fifth child was born in Tennessee. I find this family in Newton County, Missouri in the 1860 census. I next find them in Greenwood County, Kansas and finally John S. is in Arkansas along with his daughter Salina Fedrick Linsdey. I believe Elizabeth died sometime after 1865. Does anyone have any information on this Fedrick family?
