Shaina-- I know it is 9 years later, but I wonder if you have found any info? I am looking for a Patrick Feehan who married an Ellen E. Ward, and a James Leo was one of their kids. John Francis was James's brother and was my grandfather. I have Co. Cork as the possible origin of the Feehans, but only Northern Ire. as Ellen's possible origin. I find many Patrick Feehans and Ellen Wards, but no verifiable info earlier than an 1893 Rhode Island marriage record.

Thanks, and good luck!

My wife, Betty Trainor Kane, is (more than likely) at decendent of Owen and Maria Feehan. Her grandmother, Margaret Carey Trainor, was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Feehan Carey. John & Elizabeth (Lizzie) were married 4/5/1880 in Livingston Cty, Il, I assume at St. Paul's, Odell, Il. I know the Carey's and Feehan's are buried fairly close to each other at St. Paul's cemetery.
According to the 1860 census Elizabeth was the one year old daughter of Owen and Maria.L Feehan

This is probably a very tenuous link, however: My 4x great-grandmother was a Johanna Fehan (or Feehan) she was married to John Mangan in Limerick, Ireland and they had at least 6 children between 1833 and 1846: Anastasia, Thomas, Terrance, John, Patrick and Johanna. I am told by a Limerick genealogist that Terrance was an unusual name at that time as was Anastasia, but I see from yours and other postings that they both occur in your family. I am wondering if there is a connection between our Johhanna and your Terrance. Also is it possible that Alice Morgan was actually a Mangan? In our family the name has been mis-transcribed this way several times.

Ann

I'm an American and I'm trying to locate blood relatives in Scotland. Here is what I know. My maternal greatgrandmother's name was Rose Feehan and she had a sister named Winnie. Rose married John Leo Brennan of Co. Kilkenny and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They had 2 children named John, Jr. (my grandfather) and Ellie. I also know that Winnie has a grand-daughter who was born in 1973, just a few months before me. If anyone can help me find my blood relatives, I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks for responding to my inquiry. That is my family tree that you found however I am trying to go backwards from James. I have found out that James was born in Ontario in 1850 and it appears that his parents came to Canada just prior to his birth. His father was John Feehan and mother Mary Shea who may have been born in 1814. this is as far as I know. I continue to dig!
thanks again

We found Feehans living in Ovid, Seneca County, NY, in
the period from 1850 to 1903. There were many listings
of baptisms, marriages, and a couple of deaths in the
records of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. You may
check with the LDC genealogy center in your area--they
have microfilms or can order microfilms to view of church records from all over the world.

Some of the Feehans which were listed were James, Patrick, Hugh James, John, Terrence, Martin, Mary, Lucy, Anna, Esther, Elizabeth, Agnes, Anastasia, and Ellen.

We believe that those Feehans are related to our Feehan
family because my great grandparents, Terrence and Alice (Morgan) Feehan, were married in that same church in 1854 before moving westward to Minnesota by 1856.
Good luck!

Judith Cooney, was born around 1802 in Tipperary. She married Patrick Feehan in Springhill, Tipperary on 21 Feb 1825. He was born around 1800, and had at least two brothers who were older than him; The oldest brother, Martin, was a farmer and settled in Graystown near the old castle of that name, in the County of Tipperary. Edward Feehan, next in age, became a priest and died soon after his ordination.

I have the Feehan's mother's name as Alice, born about 1778 in Tipperary. Judith Cooney's father was John Cooney, born about 1776 in Tipperary.

One of Judith cooney and Patrick Feehan's children was Archbishop Patrick Augustine Feehan, who became the first Archbishop of Chicago. He was from Killenaule, Co. Tipperary. He came to America in 1852. He died 12 Jul 1902 and is buried in the Bishop's Mausoleum, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Cook, IL

Most of this info came from the Archdioceses of Chicago. Does any of this fit into your family info?

Lynn Franger
In searching for Terrance FEEHAN information, we found information on a James FEEHAN in Ovid, Seneca County, NY, during the period of time from 1862 to 1878. He was a sponsor at the baptism of Catharine CARROLL, daughter of Patrick CARROLL and Rosaline MALONE. Catharine CARROLL was the other sponsor.

On 04 Aug 1869, James FEEHAN married Ellen DOWDLE at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. The following children of James
& Ellen (DOWDLE) FEEHAN were baptised at Holy Cross, as well:

18 Feb. 1871 Helen FEEHAN Sponsors: Patrick FEEHAN &
Mary Ann McCAW
08 Sep. 1872 Mary FEEHAN Sponsors: Stephen McKITTRICK
& Mary FEEHAN
22 Jan. 1874 Agnes FEEHAN Sponsors: Hugh McGhan?McCann?
& Susan WHITE
04 Apr. 1875 Lucy FEEHAN Sponsor: Mary Ann WHITE

24 Sep. 1876 Anna FEEHAN Sponsors: Owen DOWDLE &
Sara DOUGHERTY
18 Aug. 1878 Martin FEEHAN Sponsors: Patrick DOWDLE &
Eliza. HANLON

Other FEEHANs were also living in that area. My great grandparents, Terrance FEEHAN & Alice MORGAN were in the area from the early 1850's until 1855 or 1856, when they
moved on to Minnesota. We believe that the other FEEHANs mentioned in church records were all part of the family of Terrance.

Hopefully, someone out there will recognize some of these names as being part of the history of their own FEEHAN families!

Jeanne Downs

I was interested in your Feehan posting. My ancestor (my great
grandfather) Terrence Feehan came to the US circa 1848-1849.
We have been unable to learn where his home was in Ireland.
He had a wife named Alice Morgan Feehan and named one of his
two sons Stephen. The other son was John Feehan.

Where did your Feehan family live in Ireland? Could there have
been siblings of an earlier generation of your family who came
to America before your grandmother arrived here?
Where did your grandmother settle in the US?

I will be happy to hear from you!
Jeanne

Debbie,
I am trying to find out if there is a connection to Patrick Augustine Feehan to my family. According to my great-grandfathers cousin Patrick was the first cousin of her grandmother, Ellen Feehan-Chidsey (She was the daughter of Mathew Feehan and Mary Cuddihy). So far I have not been able to make a connection though. The only information I have been able to come up with his date and locations of his birth and death, his parents names (which correspond with the ones you have), and he had a sister named Catherine living with him when the 1900 census was taken. Any information or help you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Steven Wright

Feehan's of NEW ORLEANS area

Search for FEEHANS in the New Orleans area.
Specifically, JOHN FEEHAN (born Ireland) and his wife, BRIDGET (middle name possibley Theresa) MEAGHER-MAHER FEEHAN (born Tipperary Ireland). They were married Nov. 22, 1862 in New Orleans by the Justice of the Peace.

They had 3 children that I know of, all born in New Orleans:
1. EDWARD FEEHAN: born Feb.10, 1864; died Apr. 25, 1912
2. CATHERINE FEEHAN: born Sep.22, 1866; she married PATRICK RYAN (age 35) on Mar. 17, 1888, in New Orleans.
3. MARY FEEHAN: born Aug.11, 1870; died May 31, 1945;
She married SAMUEL J. DEVINE in 1890 in New Orleans. They had 14 children of which 8 lived to adulthood. Mary Feehan was my G-Grandmother.
I have sources for the above information and would like to exchange info with any interested party.
please email me at: phyllisbel@yahoo.com
