Dear PJN
For some reason my reply of 28-10-2009 has disappeared from the thread. Our families are connected.I believe our common ancestor was James Loftus, Lisheenanoran who married Winifred Qualter in 1842. My mother's father is the daughter of his son Thomas (the Gortcloonmore branch). Your branch appears to be via John, son of Michael and grandson of James (the Kiniska branch).
John (James)moved to Gortatleva as a servent on the Mc Donagh farm marrying Delia 1901.

Dear berndetter,
My grandmother was Mary Ellen Loftus (n. 1902) born in Claregalway, Gortatleva. She was the daughter of John (James?) Loftus and Delia McDonagh. The McDonaghs were from Gortatleva, I'm not sure were the Loftus' were from. They emigrated to the Indianapolis, but John left Delia and Mary Ellen. Family sources say he may have gone to California or Australia. My understanding is that he served in the army during WW I.
My mother tells me that the Qualters were cousins, some settled in Indianapolis. I'm not sure if they were related on the Loftus or the McDonagh side of the family.
I have more information if your interested. John (James?) Loftus is somewhat of a mystery to the family. No one knows exactly what happened to him.

Dear pjn314
My mother was Julia Loftus born in Claregalway Parish,in the Townland of Gortcloonmore. She was the daughter of Thomas Loftus from Annaghdown Parish, and Mary Bridget Qualter of Gortcloonmore. I am researching the family of Thomas'brother Michael Loftus born c1848, who I believe, emigrated to Indiana and then went on to Sonoma Ca.
A previous contributer, Ann Loftus, is probably a descendant, or married to a descendant but her contact details are way out of date. I have a feeling your branch are from the Lydican/ Gortatleva Townlands in Claregalway.
I would be happy to exchange information.

Hi,

I am looking for relatives of Edward Feeney who married Hannah Flaherty both born around 1823. Their daughter Catherine Feeney born in Ireland 1840 ish married Owen Clancy from Barna in Boston 1865. I believe Edward Feeney is related to Bartley Feeney of Spiddal. I just recently visited him (Sept 1st) in Spiddal at his B &B. I had subsequently learned that I am related to John Ford by both the Feeney side and Flaherty Side. According to a source I came across Hannah had a brother Mathew who ended up in Portland Maine. Both Hannah and Mathew had their parents listed as Bartholomew Flaherty and Bridget Herny (Hurney).

I recommend contacting Ron Everett from Feeney's of Galway. That's how I found out the last information.

Hi Patrick

Just checking, you checked out the 1911 census there are no
Roddy but there are Ruddy of which there are 6 Edward's.
I have William's and James's and are cousin but only one James is left in Quay Street, Moville in 1911 the rest by this time have come to Greenock. The only thing is I do not
have a William James I do have a William George but no info on him he could have had a son, as William, James, John and Patrick where common names used in the Feeney family I do keep looking for the conection to the Ruddy's but not there yet sorry.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Robin Coles

Hi Sue
You mention Three Trees in your message and I was wondering if you can help. My uncle Edward Roddy went to Detroit USA in 1926 and claimed he was going to live with his cousin James Feeney who lived in Detroit he was travelling with a William James Feeney and the left for the USA from Greenock Scotland. I am trying to find the link between the Roddy's and the Feeney's who both lived in the area around Three Trees. Can you shed any light on this.

Many Thanks
Patrick

My Catherine Virginia Feeney, born 13 Oct 1911 in Richmond, was the youngest of a very large family. (Her line has been traced back to Ireland.) She was the only child born in VA, hence her middle name. She died in Richmond on Dec 2, 1974 & was buried here also at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Her parents were my great-grandparents. Her husband was Wallace "HENRY" Temple, born 30 Sept 1909 & died 4 June 1975 in Richmond. He was son of Henry R. Temple. They had 6 children, naming one of their sons Wallace "Henry" Temple, Jr. You said your father was Wallace "R." Temple, so we are indeed looking at separate Wallace Temples here.

Thanks for the lead!

I don't know much about my Feeney connection, but I do believe she lived in South Philadelphia after marriage, and I might have a few street names from census data.

I'll do some digging on the name "Wells" and see if anything comes up. My line indicates that she was married to John Edward Murphy, but maybe she was twice married. Who knows?

At the very least, I think the three of us on this thread will be able to better separate the several Margaret Feeneys and know false leads when we see them.

--Bill

Hi,

On Ancestry I saw a naturalization for Martin Henry Coyne who may be yours.
Date of papers was December 1912, he was 33, born Clifden, County Galway, a steel worker living at 327 15th or 13th Avenue in Homestead PA. It says he emigrated August 15, 1903 to New York on the ship Campania. One of his witnesses was Patrick Coyne of Homestead, the other was Thomas J. McDonald of Mifflin Township

Hello Dot
My Great grandparents Bernard Feeney and Teresa Doherty were married in St. Eugene's Chapel, Londonderry in 1880.
I believe Bernard ( noted on the passenger list when they came to Australia in 1882 as Danl/Daniel)was born in Three Trees in donegal or Londonderry. His parents were listed as John Feeney and Mary Skirky on his death certificate in 1894 when he was in his early thirties.
The children of Bernard and Teresa Feeney were:
Mary born in 1881 Londonderry
Louisa born in 1884 Brisbane Australia (my Grandmother)
Sarah Jane born 1885 " "
William born 1886 " "
Teresa Josephine 1887 " "
Bernard born 1899 " "

I have had very limited success researching my Feeney ascestors, much more with the Dohertys.
Would appreciate any information you may have on this line.
With thanks
Sue

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Patrick Coyne is my husband's grandfather and Martin Henry Coyne is Patrick's brother. Martin did live with Patrick when he came to the US at the address you gave. I knew they were from County Galway but wasn't sure about Clifden. Thanks for that information. Patrick's daughter Mary Coyne married a unknown McDonald. I wonder if Thomas J. McDonald was her husband or maybe her father-in-law. BTW, Homestead is part of Mifflin Township.

Patrick also had another brother, John, whom I know nothing about.

Again, thank you for the information you added to my search, including the ship Martin came here on.

Sharon Coyne

I just found the Feeney line not that long ago so I have not had a chance to find out much more.

Actually, I got Anna Feeney's name when a freind checked on Martin Coyne since he was living with her in 1920 with his wife and son. She was listed as a widow on the census. Later I checked directories for Homestead on evendon.com website where she was listed as the widow of Joseph. I have no information at all about Joseph other than from the directory.

As for Anna Feeney, from the census, she came from ????Ireland in 1881??? and was naturlized in 1884????. It was hard to make out the last numbers in those years on the census. The last directory she is listed in is 1941 in Homestead. The next one I have is 1945 and she is no longer listed but her son is listed at the address she lived. I'm figuring that she died somewhere between 1941 and 1945, but could have been put in a home too. She was 63 in 1920.

Sharon
Hi Dot,
My Feeney's are brothers Michael & Loughlin (Feeny) They arrived in Philadelphia Pa in the 1860's from Ireland. They were coal peddlers. I haven't a clue as to where they originated in Ireland. Michael Feeney died in 1897 at the age of 57 in Phila., Pa. My maternal uncle was the last surviving Feeney until his passing in 1998. I would love to discover if there are any connections to Feeney's in Ireland. Thanks for any info you might be able to provide. Regards, Terry
