Feldman Family of Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois appx 1900

My great-great-grandparents were Joseph and Anna (Dugan) Feldman of Pekin, Illinois. They were married in appx 1899 and had four children - Gertrude, Josephine, Loraine, and Edwin.

Joseph Feldman was born in Germany in May 1872. His father's name was Bernard Feldman. His mother's name is unknown, but she appears to have had the last name Breumelhaus.

Joseph, Anna, and the Feldman children moved out to Southern California shortly after Loraine was born in 1903.

Anna died in 1906 and Edwin died appx around 1912. They are buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena, CA.

Joseph remarried to a woman named Letitia who did a great job at raising the children, even though they were not her own.

I'd like to know a little about Joseph's parents. If anybody knows anything, I would be very greatful.

1871-1910 Feldman Family

Father- Henry Feldman born 1871 - Russia
Mother - Rebecca Cohen-Barson-Feldman born 1872 Russia (my GGrandmother)

Rebecca was supposedly married to Barney Barson and had 2 sons named Charles Barson born 05/22/1890 in Philadelphia PA and Barney Barson born 12/25/1892(my Grandfather)in Baltimore, MD. My GGrandfather Barney supposedly died when she was pregnant with my Grandfather Barney Barson. She later married Henry Feldman and the 1910 census records of Brooklyn Ward 21, Kings NY shows the following siblings Issac (who I think could be Charles Barson) born in PA 1891, Barney Barson born MD 1892, plus 6 half brothers and 1 half sister. David Feldman born PA 1898, Louis Feldman born 1899 PA, Samuel Feldman born 1901 NY, 1 daughter Sofia Feldman born 1903 NY, Max Feldman born 1904 PA, Abraham Feldman born 1908 NY, and Sidney Feldman born 1910 NY. Evidently they moved back and forth from Brooklyn, NY to South Philadelphia, PA. If any of this sounds familiar please contact me, as I have been working on my family history for the last 7 years and would like to hear from any relatives with the same history that I posted.

My grandfather was William/Velvel/Zev Wolf Feldman. He was born in Hungary, I believe in Turya Remete. He was the eldest son of Joseph/Yehudah Feldman(1854-1925) and Leba Friedman(1860-1922). They settled in Scranton, PA. There were 12 other children: Mary, Lena, Sander, David, Jacob, Ida, Esther, Sarah, Hannah, Benjamin, Anna, and Edwar. My mother told me that there was always a Sandor in the family in honor of an ancestor who was a great Rabbi.
One of my sisters has the middle name Pearl/Pessah. She was born shortly after WWII.

Hi, Jill. I'm back to refresh some details on my Feldmanns.

Let's begin with my great-grandfather: JOSKA FELDMANN, probably born in Ofehertó or Petneháza, Hungary, 19th century. Don't have the name of his wife. They had 10 children, namely:
- Géza, Ernö, Sandor (Samuel), Marton, Ignac (5 men)
and
- Linus, Piroska, Iren, Rozsi and Berta (5 women).

SANDOR (Samuel) FELDMANN was my grandfather. He married to PERL ROSENBAUM (daughter of MOJLAT ROSENBAUM from Bielo-Russia) and they had 11 children. As I told you before, Sandor, Perl and 9 children were killed in Auschwitz Conc. Camp, so only my uncle JOSEPH FELDMANN and my father TIBOR FELDMANN survived (the elders). Tibor uses the name ISRAEL FELDMANN since 1945, and lives in Brazil with my mother SARA FELDMANN. They have two children: me and my sister PERLA FELDMANN, now PERLA FELDMANN VIEIRA.

Kindest Regards.
Alexander Feldmann - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

Dear Mr. Lloyd Fields,

These are the data I could get with my father:

My great-grandfather was Joseph Feldmann, born somewhere in the Hungarian Empire. He had some children, one of them my granfather Samuel Feldmann (also called Sandor Feldmann), born by 1899 in Petneháza, Hungary.

Sandor Feldmann married to Perl Rosenbaum Feldmann and they settled in Velky-Trákany (old Czeckoslovakya, now Slovakian Republic, near Russian border), where my father and his siblings were born.

My father was named Tibor Feldmann, using Israel Feldmann since 1945. He was one of eleven siblings; nine of them were killed in Auschwitz Concentration Camp along with my grandparents Sandor and Perl. The only other survivor was my uncle Joseph Feldmann (that carries my great-grandfather's name), deceased in Haifa (Israel) by 1999 of natural causes.

Tibor lives with my mother Sara in Niteroi, RJ, Brazil, since 1955. I was born in the same city, and I live now in Rio de Janeiro. My only sister lives in Israel with her husband and children.

This is all what I have for now. Should it not be more specific, please forgive me.

Kindest regards and Shana Tova Umetuka.

Alexander Feldmann

Dear Lloyd,

Thank you for your good wishes from Canada. This is indeed a trying time. There are always people who will not agree with each other; however, honorable people say so out loud, in public, without massacring innocent individuals in such a cowardly fashion.

It would appear that our families are unrelated. My Feldmann family is from Satorajaujhely in Hungary. It is as follows:

Descendants of Ottilia Erzebet Nemethy
1 Ottilia Erzebet Nemethy b: December 26, 1865 in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary
+Markucz Marton Feldmann b: 1860 m: June 20, 1886 in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary
2 Sandor Feldmann b: April 07, 1887 in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary
2 Tolan Feldmann b: August 17, 1891 in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary

A visit to your local Family History Center (addresses can be found on the web) will yield info for requesting microfilm regarding the home town that you are researching. The microfilm, in turn, will corroborate the dates that you have, provide the names of the ancestors and, possibly, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Good Luck to you.

This is the information I have regarding the Feldman(n) side of my family:

1) my father Geza (George) Feldman was born in Szernye Hungary on Dec 17, 1891 and died in Toronto on June 14, 1970.

2) his siblings (all born in Szernye, Hungary) were Herman ( married Sally); Hannah or Honey Feldman; Poldy Feldman; Murish or Morris Feldman died 1916; Louis Feldman died 1931; Jacob Feldman born March 15, 1882, married Hannah - don't know last name- in Brooklyn, NY July 20, 1913, and died May 25, 1974 in Lancaster PA.

3) my paternal grandfather was Adolph (Abraham) Feldman, born 1844 and died 1940, both in Szernye Hungary. His wife was Lina Reich, born 1852 in Regmecz, Hungary and died 1930 in Szernye.

4) my paternal great grandfather was Michael Feldman, born in 1817 and died 1870 in Szernye, Hungary. His wife was Glickel, born in Turya-Remete, Hungary.

5) my parternal great, great grandfather was M'Nachum Avrum Feldman born in Turya-Remete, Hungary (date unknown)

As always the further back one goes the more difficult to obtain information and then there is the question of the information's accuracy. Also, I did not originate this information but would be please to make contact with a cousin who did. Please let me know if any of the above is helpful and whether we have found distant cousins.

IN LIGHT OF THE NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON TRAGEDY, THE CANADIAN FELDMANS ARE WITH YOU IN OUR THOUGHTS AND GOOD WISHES.
Now, Szerny is located about 5-10KM beyond the Hungarian border inside the Ukraine. The village is nothering more that a crossroads in a very poor farming area.
Did Sandor have sibblings?
Anna FELDMAN, b. 1797 -- from Grossenaschen in Osnabruck?

I am researching an Anna Margaretha Ilsabein Feldman (born 2 Jan 1797) and a Herman Heinrich Welling (born about 1793). My notes indicate that both were born in Grossenaschen, Melle, Osnabruck, Germany. My research fails to find a Grossenaschen in Germany, let alone Osnabruck.

Does a town of a similar name exist in Osnabruck?

Is anyone else familiar with a Feldman line in Osnabruck?

Anna married Herman on 2 Aug 1819, presumably in Osnabruck. Both died in Woodville, Sandusky County, Ohio.

Gail, Again I find myself wondering. In one of your replies, you mention Solomon, Julius, Ida, Katie, Louis, Doptza, Fannie... That is my family. I am still wondering if we are somehow related. In a previous email you sent me you said, if I remember correctly, that you are the granddaughter of Louis. Well, as far as we know Louis never had children, but I recently discovered that he had married twice and may have had a family. I am the grandson of Julius Feldman who was married to Esther Rosenfeld. They came from Odessa Russia (Ukraine) around 1907ish. My father's name is Harry. If you feel that you want to share more information, please contact me at dlf2000@hotmail.com.

Thanks.

reference your father Harry, I am interested in finding out anything about the Feldman family to which I belong...My grandfather was Louis Feldman, the youngest of the children. My mother keeps saying that his father was a "Max" but I think Solomon is the common bond here. I could tell you some interesting things about Lou Feldman...I backtracked from my father to find Solomon...Louis married a young English Irish girl named Beckie - my paternal grandmother. He was the black sheep of the family and we hardly knew him growing up. Any info you can furnish will be so helpful...but I think we must be related through Solomon. If true, he is my great grandfather and we are distantly related. Do you know about an uncle Max Greenburg ( a gangster in prohibition)?

This is quite amazing! You have described my family perfectly. Solomon was my great grandfather. His son, Julius, was my grandfather. His son, Harry, is my father. I don't know much about Fannie accept that she married Aaron Shiffman and had 2 children, Minnie and Harry. Zelig married Molly Moska and had 6 children. Doptza married Israel Charet and had 5 kids. Hannah married Benjamin Moses and massed 6 children. Ida married Aaron Arlow and had 3 kids. Julius married Bessie Steinberg and had 5 kids, 2 still living (one is my father). Katie married David Fink and had 2 children.

DLF2000@hotmail.com

Quite a coincidence, but I don't think my grandmother Fannie was married to anyone but my grandfather Abraham Aberman. Mine is probably the Fannie Aberman who is listed in the social security death index as having been born on 15 Sep 1890, and who died in March 1976. I went to her funeral. I guess I can request her social security application for a fee and see what family info is given there. Thanks anyway, I appreciate the correspondence. Good luck with your Feldmans.

Gail, Do you know what year this Solomon and his family immigrated to the U.S.? In the 1920 census for NY I found Fannie and her husband Abraham (misspelled as Aberham) and their (then only two) children Lillian and Sidney (my father). It says that Fannie's year of immigration was 1904.

BC Feldman - Buffalo, NY Centennial 1932 Poster Contest

I've done some research on the Buffalo Centennial in 1932 and remembered an article about the poster you mention. From a Buffalo newspaper of June 4, 1932 I found an article titled "Carpenter Draws Centennial Poster- Year After He Starts Art Course."

In it the artist Bernard C. Feldman who was living at 112 Strauss St in Buffalo was the creative force behind the winning poster. Although a carpenter by trade, Feldman had pursued drawing since he was a child growing up on a Cattaragus county farm. He began work as a carpenter following his marriage in 1917. He enrolled in evening art courses at Burgard Vocational school studying under Harry B. Wright. It is under Wright's tutelage that the winning poster was designed.

Feldman had 5 childen listed as: Mary (13), Lugarda (12), Bernard (10), Beatrice (8), Donald (7), and Geraldine (5). All seemed to share his artistic spirit.

Hope this information helps your research. I have a master's degree in Architectural History and I wrote my thesis on Buffalo City Hall which was dedicated during the Centennial as well as featuring in the poster design. I've never come across a copy of the poster but I know its a great design!

I found my papers - here is what it says - by 1910 Solomon's family had all immigrated to the USA, including Fannie who was born about 1891 in Russia in Odessa. The other siblings are: Zelig, Hannah, Doptza, Julius, Ida, Katie, and Louis the youngest. Slomon was married to Esther Rosenfeld, his father was Moses Yankel Feldman....however....it also says that this Fannie Feldman married Aaron Schiffman so it may not be the same Fannie

I will search the papers I have; Solomon had about 6 children; some were born in russia. Louis was the youngest. He may have been born in New York and then somehow moved to St. Louis where he met my grandmother. My dad told me that one of his relatives in Russia helped to build the Trans Siberian RR; also, that there was a Greenberg half of the family; a Max Greenburg was involved in bootlegging and became rather well known but I never found anything about him. Anyway, I have to clean up my work space and will try to find it. If you do a search on Louis Feldman in the 1930 census, in missouri you might be able to trace back.
