I grew up as Ellie Reynolds and lived with "Uncle" Louis and Aunt Flo in Garden City, N.Y. We used to visit his brother Henny and his wife Anna in Babylon. Bernice was a rockett - went by name of Bernice Brent. I remember hearing of Stanley but I do not remember him being at the Babylon NY home in the 1940's or 1950's. Seems like a big similarity. I am 75 years old and married to Ron Krut. I remember going to visit someone in Brooklyn? or the city and I was watched over while Uncle Louis and Aunt Flo went to a funderal.(It may have been your grandmother or grandfather. Uncle Lou's father worked as a night watchman when the Cathedral of Incarnation's school was being built. We used to bring him dinner in a lunch pail sometimes but I do not really remember - I was about 10 years old). I remember the name Freddy Feldmann but not the person.

There were trolly car tracts on the main street but I don't remember more Were you on the Suffolk County NY Police force? I was raised by the Feldmann's and attended all the Garden City schools - my mother Zilla Reynolds was a waitress in the GC Hotel.

Thanks, I had noticed George was in Louisville also. I also saw a Fred W. Feldman in the 1900 census that arrived in 1866 time frame, but age would make him something other than a sibling(born Oct 1827). Wondering if he is related also.

Thanks for the other info. I actually started with the death certificates from Kentucky and will post those shortly. Then moved on the the census data. Then pulled some data from Ancestry trees to fill in the gaps. What I added was some dates and some other descendants I didn't see on the Ancestry trees. Documenting as many descendants as I can is where most of what I will work on is.

Fred Feldman
This info is my family and looks like it may be my family tree. You said you added to it, what did you add? most of it appears to be the same as what I have. One correction, Mary Angela Behlmann was born 11 Sept 1854 and baptized in 1856 in Quincy Ill. I have her baptismal record from st Boniface Church, Quincy Illinois. I know there was at least one other brother to Bernard, son of Lambert. A brother George who also settled in Louisville Ky. He was a grocer as was my grandfather George Lambert Feldman. Our family dropped the extra (n) in the early 1900's. Bernard and his brother George came into Baltimore around 1867.

I am looking for information on the family of BERTHA FELDMANN:

I have found a letter dated July 1, 1915 to my great grandmother(b:1861 Galveston, Texas - d:1946 Houston, Texas) from her cousin Bertha FELDMANN. The letterhead reads:
W. FELDMANN & CO. - BRAUNSCHWEIG - AGENCY For Mortgages as well as for Purchase and Sale of Real Estate
Telephone No. 1736
Braunschweig, July 1, 1915
Hagenring 39, 2nd Floor

Bertha writes that she has learned from AUGUST PRALLE in HANOVER,
( PRALLE was my gg grandmother's maiden name) that her AUNT GOTTING has died in Texas & that she & her brother GUSTAV have been remembered in her will. Bertha is asking for my great grandmother's help with this. I don't know if Gustav's last name is Feldmann & I don't know who Aunt Gotting is.

I have not been able to find my gg granmother AUGUSTA PRALLE 's family. She was b: 1836 in Braunschweig - d:1877 in Houston, Texas. This letter is one of the few clues I have. I have no idea how BERTHA FELDMANN & my gg grandmother AUGUSTA PRALLE are connected.

Any help or information is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Lynn

Hi Michael,
I actually spoke to my dad last night, and we briefly talked about the Feldman side of our family, and I asked him if he would be interested in talking to you at all. He told me to go ahead and give you his number and he's be happy to fill you in on things your looking for as well as find out some more information that you may have. He lives in St. Louis, and his number is 314.566.0673. He works quite a bit, so I'd say he's most likely available anytime after 7.30pm. He mentioned something about the Prudot name that might be of interest to you, and I know he got a call from someone who had a family album, but I can't remember which member it was related to. By the way, what's the best way for him to reach you?

Hi Dave-
Thanks so much for the information...much I didn't know. I, too, have some info that might help you fill in the blanks (off the top of my head).
1) The adopted Steiger girls were Sarah A. and Marie "Mary" Louise who married Johannes "John" Scherer, co-owner, at one time, of what is now Stone Hill Winery. Their daughter, Rosa Scherer married my wife's Great Grandfather, Henry Mark Ewald, a House Painter.
2) John Feldmann (Feldman) didn't have a son George, but a daughter Laura who married George Stark, on 4/21/1872, ho's family purchased the then known "Michel Poeschel & Scherer Winery".
3) John Feldmann married Theresa Hughes-Steiger abt 1846 after the death of her physician husband, John C. Steiger.
4) Sarah A. Steiger married Adolph J. Prudot and settled in St. Louis County.
5) There are a few Steiger family members in Hermann, but, I can't make the family connection yet to John C. Steiger. One of my many brick walls....
You can check out a lot of info I have on these family lines on "gencircles.com". Just put in one of these family names and you can see the data on THE EWALD FAMILY TREE.
I hope you can "dig" up more info and maybe get your father to help out with any photo's, stories, etc that might help me put together the lives of my wife's Hermann family members.
Thanks, Dave.....
Well, just off the top of my head here. I knew that he came to Hermann in 1848 or so, around the same time that the German 49ers starting heading to America. I know he had some practice in medicine (presumably under Dr. Steiger, of whose widow he married after Dr. Steiger's death) and he quickly became the city's main physician which he operated out of his house. I know he adopted the two girls (Mary and another one I can't remember) and was their legal guardian, although from the records I found, they retained the Steiger name. They most likely lived at Feldman's house, which is actually still standing at 109 West Second St, Hermann, Missouri 65041, which services as a store house for the Deutchheim Society. My dad discovered it was incorrectly presumed to be the Stark House, and they have been working on getting funds to restore the inside to what it would have looked like at the time. They found some old boards that they had to remove because of rot that were marked with the Feldman name, so we know that it was his house. I don't know the exact dates it was built, but presumably in the 1850s. After that he was a doctor for the Union during the Civil War, of which I know he was very proud of. Although there is not a lot of information on him in record, he was an important individual to the city, and was asked to give the formal speech for the Centennial festivities in 1876 for the whole town. His son, George Feldman (I think) married Laura Stark, who was the prominent wine-making family at Stone Hill Winery. If I remember correctly, but I believe that George and Laura moved back into the Feldman house and were the main residents for many years (which is why they originally thought it was one of the Stark houses). I noticed that you have Feldmann as opposed to Feldman for his last name. You might have a little more luck with 'Feldman,' as I know he dropped the last 'm' adopting his acceptance of his American identity. You can still find his grave in the cemetery in Hermann near the Stark plot, along with his wife. I hope this helps, I'll see if I can dig up some information or see if my dad would be willing to help you at all. What do you know about the Steiger family? If you have any information on land plots or anything that would be interesting, because I still don't know how he acquired the deed to build the new house, and if there was any connection with that through Dr. Steiger.

Cheers,
dave

Hi
I had my DNA tested in an attempt to link up to other Veldsman branches. the test was undertaken by the National Geographic society as part of the Global Genographic Project which aims to understand the Global Migration of people of 60 000 yrs to the present. The results show that my DNA Haplogroup is I1a - with markers M253 - M170 - M89 - M168.
My M253 marker is centred around North west Europe. Two German men came out to South africa around 1745 and 1751. I cannot tell from which branch my DNA is from. all I know is it is of German origin. If there are any Veldman's, Veldtman's or Veldsman's Feldman ready to do their DNA analysis, I will be please to compare results.
one is Johan Gottlieb Veldtman - Peterskroon Germany
the other is Johann Heinrich Feldmann 1751 son of Johann Christoph Friedrich Feldman both from Swellendam Cape Town South Africa
Thanks
Walter Veldsman
Cape Town
Dec 2007

Hi Mike,
I very recently found that I have a connection to your Richard Feldmann. I know little about him other than what the census records tell us. I have a connection through his daughter Laura V. b. January of 1892. Laura married my ancestor James Flahive about 1917/18. In 1918 James was killed in the BRT(Brooklyn Rapid Transit) train disaster on his way home to Brooklyn. James was the brother of my great uncle John F. Flahive. John F. Flahive married my grandmother's sister, Ellen "Nellie" Carstens. Laura V. and James Flahive apparently had a son. As I am sure you noted from the 1920 census that a grandson James 2 years and 6 months is living with his grandparents Richard and Mary Feldmannand Laura is not listed. I am told that Laura sued the railroad for $18,000.00 but, ended up receiving $20,000.00. I have not been able to find Laura or James jr. or Richard or Mary Feldmann in the 1930 census.
I realize it has been sometime since you posted your query...but, do you happen to have any other information on Laura or her son James?
Thank you,
Ro

I have no info about the Feldmanns but I am Marie Fischer Feldman's great-niece. I am trying to learn more about the Fischers. Marie's brother Karl (or Charles, not sure which name was given and which was his preferred) was my grandfather.
