Hi Pat,

Thanks for responding to my query; yes, the staff at the MSA has changed and the people behind the desk are not as knowledgable as they used to be; at least they have most of the microfilms digitized though German church records are not and I must use my digital camera to make copies.
In case you did not know, Lena Feldner was the dau of Frederick and his second wife Elizabeth Hoehne; so Lena was the half sister of Dorothea (Feldner) Denhard; Frederick's first wife was Dorothea Plitt so Lena is the half-sister of Dorothea (Feldner) Denhard and not a true blood relation to the Plitt family.

Also I found a copy of the Balt Sun article on the train/car crash in New Jersey.

Let me know if I can assist or collaborate with your efforts. Some times I think I have exhausted what I can do but recently I have been using "google translate" to send emails in German or Czech to the parish priests where my Lutheran family came from with great success.

Bill (age 67, retired federal employee, married, 3 children)

I will be turning 71 in about 2 weeks. I was a volunteer at the archives in Annapolis for 19 years. I prefer not to go any longer since the staff changed, it's just not as fun as it use to be. I also cannot handle copying death certificates from the computer. I take my husband along to do that. I too have been doing research for 41 years and just feel there isn't much if anything left to find in Baltimore. My two German names are Taeuber and Bolander and Schnetter/Schneider. The earliest came in 1856.
My Irish name is Fitzpatrick. The German names were in South Baltimore, Fort Ave area.
I am not at all sure I am connected to the Plitts. It would only be if I could prove the Feldner name was connected.
It could very well be an error, as one of the children of my Bolanders, listed her mother as Lena Feldner on a death certificate. That's all I have to go on. Probably not related at all. However, I have a notebook on many Feldners including yours. Will keep in touch. Pat

Dorothea Plitt (born ca 1845) had four siblings according to the 1860 census - Louis (born Sep 1837 died 29 Oct 1922), Caroline born ca 1841, Philip born ca 1847 and August (Apr 1851 - 13 Jan 1936)
I have been able to trace Louis and August.
August married Wilhelmina (Minnie) ? (Feb 1855 - 25 Jan 1936) and they had 12 children, most of whom I can trace
Louis married Dorothea ? (May 1845 - 23 Dec 1905 Baltimore)
and they had five children; one was August Plitt (16 Sep 1870 - 30 Aug 1908)
August married Emma H. Wasmus (2 Dec 1875 - 4 Jul 1948) and they had one child Alfred Charles (11 Jun 1899 - 16 Apr 1981)
Alfred Charles married Sadie Thompson (Feb 1897 - 1973) and they had two children, one of whom was Alfred August Charles Plitt (6 Nov 1920 - 1 Aug 1973)
Alfred August Charles Plitt married Anna Marie Zimmerman (born 31 Oct 1930) and they had 7 children, one of whom is the mother of a Murphy; my wife's best friend is a Murphy

I have been doing genealogy for 40 years, especially German emigrants to Baltimore - my mother's 8 g grandparents were all German emigrants who came to Baltimore. I have been working to locate and trace back in Germany the eight locations where they came from with some success

So my interests are Baltimore Germans primarily and the Plitt family has always been widespread in Baltimore
I live in Hunt Valley now and access LDS microfilms and go to Pratt Library, many cemeteries including Baltimore Cemetery on East North Avenue where so many Germans are buried and go to Maryland State Archives in Annapolis on a regular basis where they have many German Lutheran Church records. I just enjoy it and have the time since I am retired
Bill

I guess if we keep working at it we could find a connection, but we didn't find one 7 yrs ago.
I have a copy of a Will for a Lena Felder who seemed to be rather wealthy and names her sister Dorothea Denhart, plus many others. Is your email address still the same?
Pat

My mistake! (Too many Dorotheas in my family.) Theodora Plitt was Frederick Sr's first wife. (Frederick Sr was a twin). They would have joined Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore City, MD. Frederick Feldner, Sr. was my Great Great Grandfather (paternal). I (also a twin) was christened at Christ Lutheran.

Hi Everyone!
My ancestor's son was Frederick W. Feldner, the lawyer who died tragically in Cape May, NJ area in 1910 in a car/train collision. This Frederick was born June/July 7, 1865 and died August 9, 1910. He had a sister Dora (Dorothea) and their parents were Frederick W. Feldner b. April 19, 1841 in Bremen, Germany and d. August 23, 1903 and Dorothea Carolyn Plitt b. 1845 in Hesse/Darmstadt d. 1879-71. They were married @1864. While he was in Florida working on making his fortune Carolyn took ill and died, leaving him with 3 young children, the baby Joseph, b.May 1870 d. before the next census. Frederick took on a governess/housekeeper for the children, Elizabeth W. Hoehne. A year or so later, they were married, March 27, 1872(3). She was b. May 11, 1849 in Hesse/Darmstadt and d. July 21, 1912. They had 5 children: Elizabeth b.8/13/74, Lena K. b. 12/13/76, Anna E.b.12/23/79, Katherine Bertha b. 10/19/84, and Charles H. b.1/9/88. Frederick came to America (Baltimore) on September 20,1851with his parents George(Henry?) and Eleanor Klein Feldner. They were both born in the Hesse/Kassel region of Germany. He was born in 1809 and she was born in 1814. I am not sure of their death dates. They had Frederick, John b. 1842, and Werner (Henry?) b. 1848.
I have both Baltimore newspaper's accounts of Frederick and family's deaths and also a portrait of him taken for the 1910 issue in book form of Who's Who in Baltimore in the Maryland Historical Society's collection. I hope that this helps! I really look forward to hearing from anyone about any of these people!
Jane Henry

Hi!
Sorry for wrong info! It was late! Please don't discount my credibility, but the story of Frederick in Florida during Dorothea Carolyn Plitt Feldner's illness belongs to another of my ancestors whose wife died prematurely. So sorry if this upsets anyone!

Jane Henry

My great grandparents were George William Frederick Bolander b. 1862 Germany and Sallie Gesswein b. 1865 Md. Both died in Baltimore. On Sallie's death certificate it says her father was Frederick Gesswein and her mother was Sallie Feldner/Feltner. All I know is that your Frederick W. Feldner b. 7 June 1865 Baltimore, d. 9 Aug 1910 and m. 23 Jan 1888 Amelia (Mollie) Rausch, was a cousin. Can you tell me how. I also have an article on the death of Frederick. I have a small notebook and small computer file on the Feldners - need to know just how they fit in.
Thanks.

I just went over to tell my mom (age 86) about your Feldner. She reminded me that there is another connection somewhere. There was an Aunt Lena Goodman. Marriage record for her is as follows - Lena Feldner (b. ca 1845) was married to John Goodman 1 Oct 1866 in Baltimore. However she died in Cooks Co. Chicago 9 Apr 1921 and her death certificate says her parents were Eva Bixler and Caspar Schnetter. Which puts two more names in question. Believe there are some second marriages here. Can you help with this one??????? Many thanks if you can.

As you can see I'm not very good with this messageboard thing.

This is going to sound strange, but I remember seeing you on
television when I was a kid! (I believe it was a Listerine commercial?)

I ventured into "show biz", too......... spent 5 years as a DJ on a
country radio station!

I suppose you know that I "bumped into" George...... This is SO WONDERFUL!
I'm finding family all over the place, and I never thought I'd get
the first reply!

My email address is rickandnancy@mpinet.net.

By the way, I have three beautiful daughters, ages
27, 25, and 14. The oldest owns two daycare centers,
the middle is a cop in South Dakota (why, I don't know!
A Florida native in that climate..........), and my baby
starts high school in the fall.

You can find my Mom at bvanderhoof@mpinet.net.

Keep in touch!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello!
I'm Roberta Feldner Stuart. I have been living
in California for the past 26 years and for
the last 10 been a Realtor with Moore Assoc
iates in Hermosa Beach. Have a Website...
www.robertastuart.com. Spent over 30 years in
show buisiness and semi-retired about five
years ago. Not much work in my age group for
women anymore...still do some voice over
work and an occasional commercial. My mother
Rosemary, lives with me in Redondo Beach and
I have a fabulous son who is turning 21 on
the 14th of this month. Name is Greg and is
an undergraduate business major with law
school on the horizon. Guess I won't stop
working for a while. Hope to hear from you soon!

Best regards! Roberta

Dear George:
My name is Nancy Barnhart, and I live in Sebring, Florida (which is just about smack-center
of the state!).

I was born in Newark, New Jersey. The same for all of my brothers and sisters - Cindy, Eddie, Harry, and
Raymond.

My mother, Bernice, is your cousin....... only vaguely remember Aunt Ida...... and I remember that Judy
was in a few television commercials.

If you want to surprise my mom, you can visit the Feldner family website at Ancestry.com. Or you can e-mail
her at bvanderhoof@mpinet.net.

So nice to "meet" you......... hope to get to know you better!

Nancy

Lester Feldner

Guess what? You're my 2nd cousin. Just spoke to my mother. Your great grandfather was George Henry so my father used George Henry the 2nd. My mother believes he passed away in Albany after his second wife died. For years the families never got together because of some conflict between your great grandfather's second wife and my father. Later on though we got together on occassion. When I left college and got married I lost contact except with Ida Morgan , My father and your grandfather's sister as well as her two children. Judy Marino is her daughter and last lived in Lyndhurst.

Your great grandfather's first wife and the mother of George, Lester, and Ida was Sarah Liming. Dutch ancestry as I understand, and with some connection to the Kaiser after they moved to Germany. As my father told it she or maybe it was her mother was head seamstress to the Kaiser. Also, your great grandfather apparently changed the family name during the First World War from von Feldner to Feldner out of respect. Some time ago I took an interest in Heraldry (Coats of arms) and found that the names Feldner and Vogel were very closely intertwined but I didn't really get much further than that. If you would like to reach us we're at 33 Cindy Dr. Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Telephone is 609-597-2684, and my fax is GFHF@msn.com. Nice meeting you!

Your roots question

Your grandfather was Lester Feldner who may well be my father's brother. My father was George H. Feldner. He passed away in 1984, age about 80. His brother, Lester was the older of the two. I'm not too up on family history but my mother might remember. There were several sons and daughters in Lester's family. Which one was your father or mother?
