MISS JENNIE FELKER
MAY 19, 1876

The death of Miss Jennie Felker, of this place, on the 19th of May, has connected with it, a touching sadness which cannot fail to command the sympathies of all, for the bereaved friends. That "death is no respector of persons", becomes painfully apparent when we see the young and fair cut down, while standing as it were, in the vestibule of a life bidding fair to be beautiful and productive of much good. Such seemed to be the fair prospects of the deceased; young, educated, and accomplished, seeming well-fitted to fill and honor some high womanly position in societ and ultimately perfect the designs of a true Christian life. To be thus stricken down on the threshhold of such a promising life seems to our limited humand perceptions to be indeed lamentable. Her days on earth are umbered, but she still lives in the heart and hopes of many, and we believe with the utmost confidence that she will long stand forth prominently and tenderly among the cherished memories of her associates. While among us Jennie was highly esteemed and valued as a friend, being educated by the hope of a useful life and true womanhood; as she was loved and esteemed while living, so is mourned by the entire community when dead. Her life tho short, accomplished its work and cheerfully obeying the summons, she peacefully departed this life with the blessed assurance that " to die is gain" and leaving behind her the memory of a pure concientious life.
