Yes, the Fells of Dallas county Alabama are maternal, my grandmother was Mattie Bell Fells, her mother was Emma Lou Webster Fells and her father was Eddie Fells. Their children were Mattie, AC, Julius, Cerola, Rhoda, and Emma.
Eileen Watson just completed a family history of the Fells family, back to Ananias and Rhoda Fells the maternal great grand parents. As I stated, Eileen Watson has done extensive search on the Fells family and should be able to help you with you research her e-mail is eileenwatson62@hotmail.com

Hi again. Glad to have such a quick reply. My father was Henry William Fells. Most people called him Bill. Among older family members he was known as Bud or Buddy. He died just a few days before your mom did. In fact, I think she and Uncle Bob were on the way to my dad's service when your mother took ill.

Do you live in Idaho? That was my last known address for your mom and dad. I live in Colorado.

I have quite a bit of info on Leonard L. Fells, but like you, not much on Grandma's side of the family, but then I haven't researched that side yet, either. I know her maiden name was Frades. She apparently was married to someone by the last name of Stainbrook before she married Grandpa Fells. She was born April 18, 1898 and died Feb. 24, 1964 of a heart attack. She is buried at Park View Cemetery in French Camp, California. I don't know if Grandpa was buried there, too. She and Grandpa were married on Mar. 12, 1922 in Hebron, NE. After Grandpa died she married a Russian (Ukranian, actually) by the name of Peter Boorack. They lived in Lathrop, CA. until she died.

I too am a granddaughter of Leonard and Lydia Fells. Their daughter Mary Lou was my mother. Leonards Line is difficult to find info on, but lydia's is a brickwall for me. Bless you for any and all help. Thank you. Also, the youngest daughter Ethel Marie's daughter, Robin, recently passed away. Only Jaunita is the only girl (as far as I know) living. Barbara, I don't know if you've ever found your mother-in-law. I can't help you with Ella - but, to send you in an African-American direction - there are Fells' living in Caroline County (Ruther Glen/Dawn) VA. It is an area outside Richmond and Hanover VA. Good luck

Tony, The library have micro films that you can go through on different things, like census records, newspapers, etc. there is a possibility that you might find something. I haven't been because I haven't had the transportation, I do now. You might even try the Library of Congress, I think that is the name. I have a friend I met on-line that goes to N.Y. and do research there. Good Luck in finding your daughter.

First, I would thank you and Maria again for taking the time out to answer my request. Yes, it has been a long time, he was adopted, all we have is a name and adoption papers, which doesn't say much. I have tried all I know, the SSDI, doesn't show any thing, whcih doesn't mean a thing, I have put in names of people I know and it comes back with no reply. I am assuming she might have gotten married and that would mean a name change, that is why I have went this route. You and Maria are the first to even respond. I will next go to the libraries and try the archives, with the information I have.

the answer to your question is yes, they are not afro americans,, Maria's duaghter is a fells, From what i understand the grand father did know his real last name, only that is was to long and they changed it to fells 80 or 90 years ago,I can't understand how it would be so hard to know where your mom is, was he apart from her a long time? without contact, this might help..if he has a bith cert,,on it might be her SS#, she could be traced from that, she might be collecting check by now, if it was me thats the route I would take,good luck,,

Barbera...This is Maria Fells..I married into the Fells family in 1974, my husband died in 1984. I have one daughter, Marlena, 19. I know the Fells live in Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck. In Rhinebeck I think Billy Fells is married to a Ellie but I am not sure. I dont keep in touch with allof of them but I do with Charlie Fells in Poughkeepsie and maybe he can help you..I dont think Fells is there real last name I think when they came over from Italy the grandfather couldnt spell it or the man taking names couldnt understand his name and shortened it to Fells..are you a Fells? hope this helps you, Maria

I am a granddaughter of Leonard Leslie Fells and Lydia Adeline Frades and have been trying to trace the Fells line just recently. I am very new at this, but I may be able to help you with some more information.
