Vierlings Arriving in New York between 1847 and 1895 Castle Garden

This is Mike McGovern from Long Island New York, near Kennedy Airport. My wife Mary Lou Vierling is the great grand-daughter of Adam Vierling and Augusta Stolzenberg. Adam and Augusta came thru the NY Immigration Center called Castle Garden, which was used until Ellis Island opened about 1895. Its website is free and easy. If you type in * (wild card) for the first name, and vierling as the last name, you will see 84 different names. It gives occupation, age, sex, arrival date, country of origin, and ship name. Let me know if you find your family. My e-mail is clovermcg@aol.com and the site is www.castlegarden.org Happy hunting.
Hi Mary Ann, yes I have still around, but have been busy. Thanks for the query. Again, my wife is the great-grand-daughter of Adam Vierling, and the G-daughter of Edward. Her father is Edward's son Louis. The late Louis has 3 sons besides my wife. Those 4 children have 17 children. These 17 children have about 30 children. All of us live on Long Island, NY - just outside NY City. If you send me your e-mail address I can send you an EXCEL spread-sheet of Adam's descendants as I know them. My e-mail is clovermcg@aol.com
If you look on www.castlegarden.com and put in adam vierling, you will see his info. I have a copy of his Naturalization papers from 1874 in Brooklyn. Let me know. Mike

Re: Caroline "Callie" Felps

Hello - I hope you are still out there, because all of what you wrote here does ring a bell for me!

Here's what I think I know. Augusta Stolzenberger married Adam Vierling in 1866 in Eisenbach, Germany. The arrived in the U.S. in 1869 - I actually found their record in the New York Passsenger lists. Then I found them in the 1900 census in Brooklyn (they were in their 60s then) - their children were Michael, Annie, Edward, Charles, and Louis. Of course I would love to have whatever info you have about them (the children) as all I have is their birth date.

I got all this info as a result of searching for Adam Vierling's sister: Mary or Magdalena Vierling, born 1846 (or 49), arrived U.S. in 1866 with sister "Cathe" (Catherine). It is my belief that Mary married Peter Schaefer in 1870 in Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn, and they are my gr-gr-grandparents.

So I am filling in the whole Schaefer side of things. Any info that you have that might add to that side of the story would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks, Mary Ann

BTW, you should be able to see my family tree on ancestry.com - it's public. The info I have for Adam's and Mary's parents are: father is Balthasar Stolzenberger and Gertrude Schnabel. That info was acquired from:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.vierling/1.2.1
3.23.25/mb.ashx

Sarah
I have a theory that Thomas Phelps listed in Adair Co. Mo 1830 census, is the brother of my descendent Ezekiel Phelps, b. 1801 TN. I also think they had sisters, Jane b. 1807 KY m. Stice, Matilda b. 1807 KY m. Perter J. Stice, and Polly Ann b. 1819 KY m. Tucker. Does any of this sound familiar? any info, thoughts or comments would be welcome!
Tom can contact me at thphelps@sbcglobal.net
I am looking for the parents of Hezekiah Barnet(t) b ~1813-1818. Could Thomas possibly have had a brother Hezekiah for whom he named one of his own son after?

I know it is a stretch but I am finding it difficult to find where my gggg grandfather Hezekiah came from. He is in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1850 and 42.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gail

I have been researching info on my Great Grandfather - Ignacio Lucero (b: July 1859 in New Mexico). His first marraige Feb 22, 1876 in Anton Chico, New Mexico was to Maria C. Sena and had two children:
1. Felipe D. Lucero - b: May 16, 1878 in Watrous, New Mexico married Annie Santa Ana Gutierrez and had my mother (Marcelina). Felipe was first married to Felez O. (Surname unknown).
2. Maria F. Lucero - b: 1879 New Mexico

After the death of Ignacio's first wife he married a Ambrosia or Ambrotita Sena. I have been unable to pin point anything on her. Are we researching the same Lucero?

I'm also interested in the father and mother of Igancio Lucero. Can you help? Will exchange info that I have.

Bertha (Chavez) Smith

I realize this is a long time after your original posting, but I just ran across your posting. Thomas born Kentucky, 1813 according to census in Mo. and is my my gggg-grandfather and his son Hezekiah my ggg-grandfather, then William Jasper, gg-grandfather. Thomas was married to Bethenia ???, (do not know last name). She also was supposedly born about 1813 in Kentucky. I have hit a brick wall in finding their parents and ancestors. How do you tie into this line? I will share any information that I have.

Hi,
I would love to exchange information with you and pleased that you responded. I haven't done much research in the past year. This is still a stumbling block for me. I do have information on some of their descendants, and have information on my line.
My line is through: Thomas Felps/Phelps and Bethenia(last name?); Hezekiah Felps/Phelps and Julia Lowe (think her mother's maiden name was Blue/Blew); William Jasper Phelps and Motie Foudray; William Jasper Phelps and Motie's daughter Ida Phelps was my g-grandmother. Hezekiah also had a brother William Jasper who married a Mary Ann Crow.

I only have I believe the names of 5 of the children of Hezekiah and Julia. I know that Julia was married previously to a Logan Beard and had 2 children.

I have not been able to find Thomas and Bethenia parents, where they died, born etc. Although believe, but cannot find documentaion, that they were from Butler County Kentucky and both born around 1810-1813. I have never found anything on Bethenia and her maiden name. Any help would be very much appreciated and would send you my e-mail address if that would help in this research on this family.

Sincerely,
S.Barnett

It has been a long time since your message was posted. I hope someone is still out there that can answer this. I am looking for a contemporay of Sarah Felps, daughter of Brittain Felps. Sarah married Samuel Moyers. The woman I am looking for is Ferraby Felps - she married Samuel's brother Henry. Does anyone know where her family is? Were there more Felps families living in Lincoln County TN in the early 1820's that aren't on the census?

Many thanks

What a great surprise to find your speedy reply. As I mentioned, my genealogy research was put aside a few years ago and I just rejoined and began researching Ancestry yesterday. I'll need to dig into my records and see just what I have. I know I have photos of Hezekiah and Julia Phelps and my mother's records from her days doing genealogy research (the hard way). I'll have to blow away the cobwebs, both in my mind and on the gobs of papers, and see what may be buried there.

Just looking in Ancestry last night in the 1860 census I found Hezekiah and Julia with two children, Henry T. and your William J. In the 1880 census Hezekiah and Julia are listed with daughter Mary B. (my great grandmother, "Belle") and sons John, George and Robert. By then William J. and Henry T. were old enough to be out on their own.

Please reply to my email address and we can exchange more:
ok dilly at yahoo dot com. I've separated the letters in the address and substituted words instead of symbols in
hopes of preventing "harvesting" of my address.

I look forward to sharing with you. I know my mother will find this exciting too.

Thanks!

Sarah

Audry, like Patricia Hickerson, I am interested in your Stolzenberger line. My wife's father's father's mother is Augusta Stolzenberger. She married Adam Vierling in Brooklyn about 1880 and died in Brooklyn in 1913. I have her death certificate but can't read the names of her parents too clearly. She is buried in Holy Trinity Catholic cemetery in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. We visit the grave monthly since her son Edward (my wife's grandfather) and her never-married daughter Anna and never-married son Charles are buried there. She and Adam also have never-married son Michael, and a married son Louis who was a New York City policeman. I am trying to find any of her relatives to add to my family tree. I have done extensive research on my McGovern and Dolan families, and my wife's Brennan, McCart and McDade side. I would welcome any names you may have. Regards, Mike McGovern

My cousin and I are stuck at our ancestor, Ezekiel Phelps, born in Rutherford Co. Tn in 1801. We have a hunch that Ezekiel's father was a Thomas.. I have copied a section of a recent email from my cousin Dawn-Marie jaramillo Phelps:

...Here is some information that I have on the 1830 census for Adair Co., MO. They are listed in this order, which means they lived next to each other. Several years ago I went to the Archives down here. I was told that when they used to take the census, the census-taker would walk from farm to farm and list them in the order that they lived. If Thomas is Ezekiel's brother, note the ages, and he is a junior, that means their father was a Thomas Phelps. While Ezekiel was born in TN and Thomas Jr was born in KY doesn't mean they cant be brothers, since the Phelps' are known to move around and the two states are next to each other. Have you come up with a Thomas Phelps as a possibility to being Ezekiel's father?

The men and Jane are all around the same age... 20-29 age category.

SHELBY STICE MARRIED JANE BETTY PHELPS B.1807 KY. MARRIED ON 10-31-1827 IN RALLS CO., MO

EZEKIEL PHELPS B.1801 TN MARRIED MALINDA STICE B.11-13-1812 KY. MARRIED ON 7-12-1827 IN RALLS CO., MO

THOMAS PHELPS JR. B.1801-1810 (20-29 yrs old.) NEWLY-WED IN THE 1830 CENSUS. WIFE ONLY 15-19 YRS OLD IN CENSUS, NO CHILDREN YET.

Also, please note that I have a DNA test in progress with The Phelps DNA project administered by Doug Phelps. More participants would mean more closure in the gaps..

Thomas H Phelps
