I have a large number of Hewitt's but do not have many of several family groups.(Thomas> John> solomon> John> Elisha>Elisha) Elisha migrated from Windham Co., CT to Cayuga Co. NY and had several ch. and they had several ch. b. in NY so perhaps if you are looking for Hewitt's/ Hewett's b. in NY this might be an area to search.
For example I have one grandson of Elisha, who had 11 ch. and I only know of two.
There are many descendants who I have not been able to search for. Many did move to the midwest.
Elisha's dau.Anna Eliza Hewitt b.14 Apr 1782, m. Daniel Dwelley Perry. (our line) and their dau. Anna Eliza b.1809 m. Zadoc Rhoads/Rhodes.
They had a son Daniel who m. Sarah Ivory and her parents were Alexander Ivory and Melissa Felter. So there is another connection to Felter.
It is a wide open family from the Sempronious, Cayuga co., area and you may find the Hewitt's you are looking or in that area. My health limits my research anymore. Just thought I would pass this on as it is a large family and not a lot of research has been done once they came to NY. Many still live in that vicinity.

Josephus and Ellen's daughter,Prisilla, was my great great great grandmother. I have always thought that those two records matched. However, there was another Josephus Hewitt, born in Kentucky, who was part of the Restoration Movement and corresponded with Abraham Lincoln, he also resided in Greene Co., Ill. he ended up in Natchez, Miss and not St. Louis. I have been unable to turn up any other census or burial records for Josephus and Ellen Hewitt.

George Felter is my distant relative. He was from Richmondville, NY. His son Matthew, had a large farm in Schoharie County NY. His grandson, Freeman Felter, built a beautiful 12 room home on the homestead. George Felter was my 4g grandfather.

The Felter family of which I am a descendant, all originated from the Kingston, NY (Ulster Co.) area, and moved northward to Schoharie Co. where they established the farm that we call the Homestead. It is the settlement of Blenheim, not far from Summit, NY.

My line is thus:
George
Matthew
Freeman
Matthias
Harry
Jason

My father Jason was the first not to be born on the Homestead. His father moved off the farm to Oneonta, NY where my Dad was born in 1916.

I would love to know anything about the Felters of New York. Thanks!

Cordially,
David Felter
Overland Park, KS
Does anyone connect back into upstate New York? If we can make a tie into my family, I can trace it back to the first immigrant in N. American and for some collateral branches, back farther. None of my direct ancestors left NY but they did have siblings, cousins, etc. that did.

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for any information on the family of an Elizabeth Felter (b: ca 1803) who might have married a Samuel Griggs (b: ca 1797) in about 1825. This Samuel Griggs was from Newburgh, Ulster County, New York and was the son of Samuel and Philenner (Philenor) Griggs. Samuel and Elizabeth apparently moved to New Jersey because they are found living in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.

Any information about the family of this Elizabeth Felter that would confirm this marriage would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Frank
I use all 4 spelling versions in my research because of language difficulties and the sounding out of surnames by census takers, immigration, courts and so on.

I have been researching the Pennsylvania Wrightstone tree for several years. I have information on Ira Alfred Wrightstone but I have been unable to find if Ida M Stalter is actually related to the Wrightstone family. I know Ida's mother was Christina Felter born around 1875 in New Jersey. I also know she had a son named William C Felter who was born around1896 in New Jersey. Ida M Stalter was born in New Jersey on Jan 31, 1892. I show Christina married to Ira A and living on Green St in Shiremanstown in 1920 but I find Ira A Wrightstone single in the 1900 and 1910 census. If you can clear this up for me I would really appreciate it. My Wrightstone tree is quite large and I have the Stalter's and Felter's listed as part of it. I was just hoping to get a verification.

Mary,
I have a few Felter's in my database that came from the Luzerne county area in PA. I also do not have much information but here is what I have that looks close to what you are looking for. I have a Mary Antonnette Felter born October 15, 1887, died in 1954. Daughter of Frank Felter and Mary Perry (both died circa 1922 I think). I have 2 brothers for Mary, Frank Erwin Felter (died circa 1948), and Edwin Varian Felter (who is the main link to my family tree) born 8/27/1879, died Oct 1960.

Frank may be your Francis but I have no reference to Henry or Paul and unfortunately no sources noted for my information. It must have come from my earliest research, before I began to take more carefull note of where my information came from. I would most likely have gotten this information via verbal accounts from relatives or possible from headstones in the Cemetery.

Sorry I could not have been more helpful

Good Luck in your search
Bruce

I don't know actual connections, but among the personal papers archived at the Huguenot Historical Society (in New Palz, New York) are three receipts tied to the Felters. The first (1738) is to Joseph Crawford from Johannes Felten (Felty) for "work done to him." The second (1751) was a receipt for payment made by Johannis Felton to Evert Wynkoop (written in Dutch). The third (1790) was a receipt made by Petrus Felton to Peter Van Gaasbeek written in English. Both receipts reflect payment in pounds and shillings. Van Gaasbeck is a name that appears in other Felter receipts and transactions, many of which I have in my possession from the 1700s.

You can also see a home built by the original immigrant, Johannes Velde at http://threerivershms.com/hvvanews6-9.htm

John Felter immigrated to America from Alsace, I am not sure if he is related to my line of Felter's. According to his widows pension application, he was born in St.Mary's Alsace. He had been wounded in the Civil War and died at the age of 58 from the wounds. There were no children noted on the pension. John is buried in St. Mary's Cemetary near Pittsburgh.
Frances;
My first cousin married Garth Felter (from Zion Grove). My files have about 100 descendants and spouses for Antione's son Zachariah FELTER. Glad to share all I have.

Larry Croll
