Joseph Feltes/Pauline Kinzel

Hello Mrs. Pollard,

In my first message I made a mistake in writing. Johann Joseph Feltes was born in 30. Apr. 1862 not 1869!

Theodor Feltes and his wife Margaretha Braun had 8 children. Here the birthdates:
1. Nikolaus * 18. Sept. 1841
2. Katharina I. * 6. May 1846, she was married with Johann Kraus
3. Wilhelm * 23. March 1848
4. Anna Maria * 6. Dec. 1849, she was married with Jacob Nussbaum (not clear whether they emigrated)
5. Katharina II. * 8. Nov. 1851(not clear whether she emigrated)
6. Barbara * 7. Oct. 1953, she was married with Matthias Thiel from Welschbillig (southly of Idenheim). Both emigrated also, I think like Barbara`s mother, Helena and Johann Joseph in 3. Jul. 1880.
7. Helena * 24. Jun. 1858
8. Johann Joseph * 30. Apr. 1862

Of course it must be said in my first message "... were sought by prussian governement..." I forgot that "forget" is irregular.

Yesterday told me a friend, Wolfgang Ewen, that members of the Feltes family had visited Idenheim some years ago. He believed they were coming fom Trenton, NJ. Perhaps you know something about that?

Thats for today

Heinz.

Re: Joseph Feltes/Pauline Kinzel

Hello!

Johann Joseph Feltes was born 30. April 1869 in the village Idenheim, Germany. Idenheim lies about 12 Miles in the North of Trier and the Mosel River. Idenheim has actually about 450 inhabitants.
He emigrated 3. July 1880 with his sister Helena, born 24. June 1858, and his widowed mother Margartha Feltes (birthname: Braun)She was born 23. December 1819 in Gondorf, a village about 8 miles in the east of Idenheim. In 20. January 1841 she had married in Idenheim Theodor Feltes. Theodor died in the end of 1878 or in the beginning of 1879. The exact date I have to look for in the Archives in Trier.

The older brothers of Johann Joseph named Nikolaus (Nicholas), born 16. October 1841 and Wilhelm (William), born 23. March 1848, were living since circa 1868 in the USA. Both were seeked by the prussian governement as military fugitives in 1868 resp. 1871. The sister Katharina, born 6. May 1846, emigrated 6. March 1869. She had married Johann Kraus. They lived in 1879 in Trenton, Mercer County, NJersey. Nikolaus lived in 1879 in Millville, Cumberland County, NJersey. William was living in 1879 apparantly in Brooklyn, New York, because he contacted that year the public notary Peter Huberty in Brooklyn.
After the death of her husband Margaretha Feltes sold by auction all her mobiles and immobiles (House, Gardens, acres)and emigrated to her children in the States. I have a copy of the act, made by the notary Johann Nikolaus Knur in Bitburg (5 Miles northly of Idenheim)in 3. November 1879.

I published in 1999 a little essay about the Emigrants of Idenheim, and so I knew, that the Feltes family, was emigrated but not where they lived in the States. The notary act has showed it to me some years later. Accidently I`ve found now your question on Johann Joseph Feltes and I hope, I could help you a little bit. Sorry for my bad English.

My postal adress is:

Heinz Schmitt
Helenenstr. 20
54295 Trier
Germany

By the way, I am born in Idenheim in 1951.

your sincerely

Heinz Schmitt

Re: Family of Joseph Feltes, Harold Feltes or Gerald Feltes

Hi there,

My name is Deborah. My grandmother was Christine A Ross, but Betty and Gerry used to call her Ernie. Ernie and Harold were cousins and after Irene died and my grandfather died, Harold and my grandmother were companions. He moved in with her in her house in West Hempstead, NY. This was about 1971.

My mother's name was Phyllis, she was an only child. I have one brother, Brian, and one sister, Laura. Our maiden name was Allman. We moved to Virginia in 1974.

I spent several summers with Harold and my grandmother in his house in Lake Worth, Florida until he sold it.

One summer, I remember Betty and Buck and Betty's two children from her first marriage - Cindy and Johnny - and the twins Candy and Sandy - and Buck's two children from a previous marriage - Kenny and I'm sorry, but I can't remember the little girl's name, maybe Audrey - had come down to visit and then we all went to Tennessee to drop Buck's children off, and then went to Kentucky to visit his mother and then went back to New York. It was quite a trip.

Harold was a very kind man. He was very good to my grandmother and us. He and my grandmother came to visit us many, many times after we moved to Virginia.

After my grandmother died, Harold moved back to Florida. I believe shortly after that, he too passed away. One of the relatives told us that he is buried next to my grandmother in New York, but I don't know if that is true or not.

My grandmother had 3 sisters, 1 brother, 2 half sisters and 1 step sister. Her mother was married twice, but I'm not quite sure how Harold was related to my grandmother. I think that my grandmother's father was Joseph's brother, but I'm not positive about that.

Hope this helps.
Have you found whether "Royal" Feltus is a family name?
This name occurs a few times throughout our family.Earliest information I have is John Balfour Feltus (b 1828) married
Mary Ann Barton . His father was Francis John Feltus who married a Miss Balfour. Francis had a brother James Feltus who married Jane Balfour (sisters). Both James and John (uncle and nephew)and families migrated from Ireland to Australia.(9 years apart). One of John Balfour Feltus and Mary Anns sons names was Thomas Royal Feltus.

My best friends madden name is Feltes. Her family has “saxisch” roots. I don’t know when but they migrated with other “saxisch” families to Romania to Transylvania to be exact. The migration started in the 9th century and (ended as far as I know) in the mid 19th century. I don’t know if this information is of any help for you.
Feltes is VERY VERY common where I live. We live about 40 miles west of Chicago, and in northern Illinois this last name is common. When we go other places, its like a foreign name to them which is weird since everyone where I live has the name.
