I know it has been a long time since we talked about the Feltner book. I thought I would post about the author. Some of you may know that he has passed away. Here is his obit. They are to have a memorial for him at the reunion this year. Which is the 3rd Sunday of Aug.

Feltner, Conrad Wade
Genealogist Authored Six Books, Traveled Extensively
posted May 31, 2007

Conrad Wade Feltner, 66, died at his home on Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Conrad was a native of Kentucky, graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, and was an alumnus of the University of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Feltner and his father, John Conrad Feltner.

Conrad was a genealogist as well as an avid reader, and during his life authored six books on family history. He was co-founder of the Feltner Family Reunion held each August at the J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp in London, Ky. As a lover of music, Conrad played trombone in a dance band for 16 years. He was an honorary Kentucky colonel and had been president of the congregation at First Christian Church in Middlesboro, Ky. He also had held many leadership roles in the Lions Club.

Conrad was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired engineer from BellSouth.

Travel was one of Conrad’s passions, having visited all 50 states and 23 countries throughout the world. He loved to observe people and to partake of their local culture.

A lifelong University of Kentucky basketball fan, he had attended games since 1951, first in Memorial Coliseum and later at Rupp Arena.

Conrad was a former member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

At Conrad’s request, his body was donated to the Genesis Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis.

A memorial is planned at the Feltner Family reunion this August.

Memorial donations can be made to the Laurel County J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp, 200 County Extension Road, London, KY 40741.

Conrad is survived by his wife, Sherri Lewis Feltner; sons, Jacob Conrad Feltner, Robert Aaron Lewis and Benjamin Charles Lewis; his sister, Maret Garard and her husband, Richard, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; niece, Kate Garard, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and nephew, Wade Garard, of Indiana; and his two loving companion cats, Spice and Sassy.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 7454 East Brainerd Road.

Hi Sherry,
I know of a Sadie Feltner who was born around 1916 in Leslie County. She was the daughter of Adam Feltner and Orpha Bentley. Orpha was the daughter of William Preston Bentley and Nancy "Dutch" Melton. Orpha (born 6 Oct. 1888, died 15 Oct. 1968) had a sister Nannie (b. 5 Aug. 1890, died 15 Oct. 1968) who married an Alfred Bowling. I dont know how the sisters died on the same day. I got that info from Soc. Sec. Death Index. They had at least 2 half brothers from Preston Bentley's previous marriage to Mary E. Sowards in Pikeville. Their names were William Otho Bentley and Jefferson Sowards Bentley. Otho married Ethel C. Vicars from Wise, Va. Jeff married Shirley Pauline Daniel. This William Preston Bentley was NOT the same Wm. P. Bentley who traveled to China. but was an Attorney and I think a State Legislator.

Debbie Funk,
My Mother " R" is correct in saying we have not spoken or seen each other since Nov 24, 2004. Please let her know that Paul and I are NOT moving in 2008, so don't start celebrating yet. I ended our friendship, after she called my grandchildren ( her Great Grandchildren ) " Niggers" and made other references about them due to their mixed race, and why we no longer communicate. My husband and I are the Proud Grandparents of 15 of the most intelligent and great kids, all of mixed race and back rounds and we love them all. I have been researching my family since 1993. Has been a member of the New York Biographical & Genealogical Society. Have NEVER claimed to be a professional genealogist. This has been a passion of mine that I got " R " started into a few years ago, and now she chooses to slander my name all over the Internet, along with her son, by her third Husband. I have every e-mail she has ever sent me or posted to prove it. I have been also researching my husband's side of the family since 2001, and can go back to the last 1600's (with proof of records and also with help of others ). " R " is my mother though blood only. She gave me, along with my two half sisters away to HER mother for legal adoption on Oct 24, 1963.He mother, Louise and Louise's second husband, where and will always be my parents. She was never around. I found her though Social Security back in 1995/96. We, most times had a rough relationship. Two sides to each story. My advice, get as many records as you can from every source that you can, and don't believe ALL you hear from others. Just keeping the record straight.
Good luck with your research.
Donna
Ken

I am Rita Feltner the mother to Donna Bronke who wrote to you back in 2000. She claimed her father was related to Garrett Feltner. Not true. The man she claims is her father is my husband and he is only a stepfather. Donna is my out of wedlock daughter and her biological father hit the high hills when he heard the word Pregnant. Donna has a bad habit of getting her records all screwed up. She is in no way related to us Feltners. I am married to Garrett's grandson, Robert A. Feltner Jr. She does research and tells everyone she is a genealogist but she does not have her certificate even if she calls herself a Genealogist. Please be careful what you tell her or what she tells you since 90 percent of the time it is not true or made up.

I was checking the Rootsweb area looking for something and found some Feltner searching done by her.

If you need more info I can probably help or direct you to a family member who can help.

Sincerely
Rita Feltner
mystcdawn34@earthlink.net

I am a true Feltner by marriage. My husband is the grandson of "Pap" Feltner whose son Robert A. Feltner Sr had several kids and one was my husband Robert A. Feltner Jr. Donna Bronke who is my daughter out of wedlock is no relation to any Feltner.
She does research and loves to latch on to anyone she thinks she is related to. She has problems of belonging to people. She also makes up stories. My husband's cousin Naomi Park has the exact info if you need it. If so then e-mail me and I will send it to you. You have to be careful who you give info to.

Sincerely
Rita Feltner
mystcdawn34@earthlink.net

There is a write-up on the elder John and his family in "The History of Audubon County, Iowa", if you have not already seen it.

Debbi

Try contacting Naomi Park who is a cousin to Bob Feltner, my husband. I will contact you again and give you her exact screen name. She has the book on the Feltner family.
But she does get a bit cross when anyone questions the Wooton,Feltner name about her grandfather even tho she knows that Charles Wooton is his biological father. I have not been able to find anything on Charles Wooton since he is the father of Garrett because Feltner is not the real family name. He took it when his mother was married to Feltner and kind of fooled around with Charles and got pregnant with Charles no one in the family will admit that the name is Wooton and not Feltner. It would help us to know what nationality Bob is. Bob's family won't admit even tho I came up with the research that Bob's father had been married 5 times and fathered 21 kids. They are really tight lipped about things. Even his brother Royal called me a dirt digger.

Let me know what you find out

Rita Feltner
mystcdawn34@eartlink.net

I am a Feltner through marriage to Robert A Feltner who was born to Robert Feltner and Callie Jent in 1937 in Perry County, Ky. We live in Illinois now. I see that you have started your research back in 2003 and I just ran across it today.

I know of Shade and the others you mentioned. Garrett Feltner is my husband's grandfather. There are some of Garrett's grandsons still alive in Michigan. There is Marcus, Royal,
Baxter and Fred
My one daughter and I have done a lot of research on the family and I have a lot of records on them to.

If you need any info that I may have be free to write
I am at mystcdawn34@earthlink.net.

Rita

1900 census lists him with his father and mother and sisters and brothers, and a couple of aunts and uncles, (with last names of Feltner, so I assume siblings of his father). The down side is that I can't read the census sheet. If you'd like I'd be more than happy to email you the sheet. On the same sheet are several other Feltner's listed as well and the next page has Lucinda Colwells' family as well.

The census does state that John's father is 33 years old and

I'm assuming that he died before the 1920 census as I'm not locating him, and Owen is residing with the Adam Colwell family, you probably already knew that though).

Sorry I wasn't of more help. Truth is my Feltner's are from the Wisconsin branch. If you want those census sheets just let me know.
