I am also searching for information about George Fenby b. abt. 1820 in England. His mother's name was Hannah and he and his Mother (George was aged 10) were transported to Tasmania, Australia in 1829 as convicts for stealing 2 prs. shoes. George was released from his sentence in 1836 and we have no record of what happened to him for about the next 10 years; then the name George Fenby appeared on a family death certificate as the first husband (no marriage cert. found yet) of my husband's g.grandmother; they had ch. named Hannah, Marianna, Jane, & George William between 1840 and 1846. He was listed as being a Sawyer in Geelong, Vic. during that time. He disappeared off the scene about 1848 and I have not been able to find any trace of him, i.e. death certificate, accident etc. Ellen, his wife married in 1849. and her husband apparently adopted the previous children. She had several more children.
My daughter found your query on a list and forwarded it on to me. Is it possible that your George Fenby spent some of his early life in Australia and eventually went to Canada to make a new life for himself. All the names you mentioned tie in and the dates are all similar.
Hoping to hear from you
