Kristina:

Could your immigrant ancestor have been Jacob Fenter? He was born in Germany, immigrated to Ohio, and died in the Mexican War in 1848. I'm descended from him through his daughter Frances. The line later settled in OK, but I don't know about AR or TX.

Thanks for checking.

Sandra
Hi there,

Isn't working on a family history interesting? I will work on this for a week or two and then stop and pick it up again a few months later.

Anyway, here is what I know:

Leon Negocious Fenter born July 31, 1873; died Jan 20, 1953

Alice Lorane Westerman Fenter born Aug 8, 1877; died July 2, 1962

Children:

Ardrey Halliburton Fenter born Sept 26, 1894; died Sept 23, 1957; married to Octavia Florence Blackwell

Audra Fenter born Oct 2, 1896; died May 11, 1971; married to Marvin Ohern Ezzell

Ira Lee Fenter born Nov 26, 1898; died Dec 21, 1919

Orban (Orby) Negocious Fenter born Jan 18, 1902; died in December 1976; married to Eva Henneman

Iris George Fenter born March 17, 1904; died October 1960; married to Eleanor Brooks

Aubrey Leon (Kiddo) born Nov 13, 1907; died March 31, 2004; married to Georgia Dorough

Audrey (Audie) Darlene Fenter; born Jan 4, 1910; died Oct 26, 1996; married to Calvin N. Gibson

Arcie Fenter born Nov 27, 1911; died Nov 28, 1987; married to Joseph Lackey

Opal Grace Fenter born March 30, 1915; died August 9, 1979; married to R P Bowie
(These were my parents)

The "Negocious" name is interesting. The story goes that L.N.'s grandfather, Christian Fenter, was married to a Chickasaw Indian. Perhaps Negocious is some type of Indian name.

Hopefully, this will help you in your research.

I have seen the Buckley name when doing research on the Westerman's. I can find Westerman back through a Clifford Westerman but don't have any info beyond that. I assume that they may have originated in Germany but I don't know that.

Anything that you could do to help me would be appreciated.
Martin and Matthias Finter are difficult to keep separate. Sometimes, I think maybe they were the same person, but then reason tells me no. Anyway, the marriage bond for Susanna Fenter identifies her as the daughter of Matthias of Rockbridge County. Her brother, Frederick, gave bond and testified she was old enough.

Martin and Frederick Fenter, Finter, Finder, Fainter of Virginia

In the 1789 Shenandoah land tax list, I find Mathias, Barbary, wife of Martin, and Fredrick FINTER. Martin bought land in Rockbridge County in 1800 (Grantor index Rockbridge 1778-1848). The Augusta County Revolutionary War Pension index transcription lists Frederick Finder with aliases of Fenter, Fanter and Finder. He received a wound in his left arm and received a disability pension (Gov. Randolph awarded Fredrick Finder, Fintar the pension in 1787).

In the Rockbridge County Census of 1810, Martin Fenter appears and again in the 1820 and 1830 Censuses as Martin Fainter.

In the transcript of the 1835 Pension Roll, Martin and Frederick appear as Fainter and Finder (alias Fender) respectively.

In 1835 Frederick was 73 and Martin was 95. In 1836, Frederick died and his wife, Rachel Finder received his pension.

Family lore has Martin the father of my ggrandfather John and they appear close in the 1830 Census. John was born in 1798 and Martin was 58 in 1798.

It seems to me that Barbary (Barbara) would have been too old to be the mother of John. Is it possible Frederick was the son of Martin and father of John?

I have some documentation written in 1989 or so tracing stating that my mother's family is part of the Christian Fenter family. Unfortunately, there are several holes in the lineage. My mother's maiden name was Opal Grace Fenter, her parents were Aubrey Leon Fenter and Alice Westerman. Both of the parents were born in the 1880s and moved to Texas from Arkansas in the early 1900s. They then moved to the El Paso area in the 20s. Any help anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. I am just starting this search.

Scott,
I have a copy of a Fenter family history which tells about Christian Fenter joining the Lewis & clark expedition. With the monies he was paid (in advance)he bought a farm in the Bois Bruile River Bottom District of St. Genevieve County in Missouri. This family history was put together by Edgar H. Williams, Jr. in 1980. The last known address I have for him is: 11562 Dale St. Garden Grove, CA. 92641. I received my copy from another cousin in 1982. You might want to try to contact Edgar. I would be happy to share any and all infoI have with you and anyone else who wants it. It is quite extensive and I am not sure how I could get it all copied. But I would certainly love to share.
