I know this was posted a long time ago however, my grandmother was Mary Louise Ferrand who had brother named Orville. She also had a sister named Gertrude, brothers named Leslie and Clarence. Her parents were Lawrence Leslie Ferrand and Nettie Eversole. I have information that dates back to Leslie's parents who were Wiliam Thomas Ferrand and Mary Scobee. We are from Indiana as well. I'm from Terre Haute where my grandmother lived also. The Ferrands we decsend from our mostly from Putnam County.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your note, it was good to hear from you. I live in Knoxville, TN. I have a son, Christopher R. Ferrand who is 27 and lives in Little Rock, AR. He just got married Sept 6th. I also have a daughter, Sydney Michaela who will be 9 Oct 4th. Like my dad, I too spent a career in the army retiring in 1994 at Ft. Monroe, VA. After retirement, I spent several years as a substitute teacher. I now ride my motorcycle a great deal. The Smoky Mountains are a great place to ride and meet people. My wifes name is Stephanie and I also have two stepchildren, Lauren 23, and Jim 19. Both attend Arkansas State Univ in Jonesboro, AR.
Did you ever get to know our g grandfather Lawrence Ferrand who would be Grandpa Orville's father? I remember him well. He was old at the time, had a short, white flat top haircut and always chew that old rope tobacco. There was alway's a tobacco stain down the side of his mouth from spitting. He had a spitoon next to his easy chair to spit in. I remember him growing the most wonderful watermelons. He would stack them in front of his house and sell them for 50 cents each. I loved watermelon and would take a knife and go into the patch and have a big ol' time. Was alway's getting into trouble with grandpa over that! ha. He was a neat guy...Grandpa Lawrence, Grandpa Orville and his sister, Aunt Louise and his brother Uncle Harry all lived on the same block there in Terre Haute. Think it was Sunnyside St, not sure..Grandpa Lawrence' old house is still there. It was vacent last time I saw it which was just before G Orville passed away. My dad and I visited him about three weeks before he died. All I can think to write about for now. Let's stay in touch Brian. Again it was so good to hear from you. Email is ferrandr@comcast.net.

Regards,
Bobby

i always get it mixed up. but it is located in caldwell parish. i have been told 2 names for the place but it is suppose to have a ferrand grave yard there. my mom told me about where it is.but it is suppose to be all grown up (as in grass and weeds) i have a book but i don't have the other ones that were published. the ferrands were kin to just about half the names in the book. like the coons, the eitiers, the coates....etc. the plattion is call chenuk or chenault. there is a gravel road that leads up the plantion. and then in the other direction is the cemetary.there is a cemetery that is at the top of the hill as soon as you get to columbia. you will see it on the left. it is a really big cem. but there is ferrands burried there. are you sure that he is in the same family that i am looking for? cause i haven't seen his name in the book but then there are names that where not put on there. cause no one new they existed.

I have heard of Hypolite Ferrand, but have no idea if my Ferrand is related to him. All I know is that Olivia Ferrand was French. She might have been born in Louisiana. She married my great-great grandfather, Andres Rendon, who might have been half French and half Spanish or all Spanish. They married in 1867 in Rapides Parish. Olivia was probably born around 1851. So I wish I knew who her family was, but I am always looking.

Thanks.

Brenda Rendon Osborne

Brenda Osborne,
I found your post on the Ferrand web-site and was wondering what information you have found out about your Olivia Ferrand. I am also researching an Olivia Fearrand [my husband's grandmother](b.1896 in LA or AR d.1957 in Allen Parish, LA; lived in 1900 in Grant Parish). Not the same age as yours, but maybe there is a connection, maybe she is the aunt of mine. 2 Olivia Ferrands in LA is too coincidental. I have the parents of mine (father = Ferguson V. Ferrand; mother = Ella), but cannot find any Fearrand/ Ferrand/ Farand/ Farrand siblings or parents for Ferguson. I have tried to tie mine in with the Hypolite Ferrand family of Caldwell Parish, but am not making any connection. I'm sorry if this is confusing. Any help, hints or clues will be greatly appreciated.
Karen Henry

P.S. The family scuttle-butt also says that they were from France and the 1880 TX Census says that Ferguson's father was born in France and his mother was born in MS.

Since my last posting I have found that my Olivia Frances Fearrand was the sister of Napoleon Franklin Ferrand. Their parents were Ferguson V. Ferrand and Ella Boyd Ammons Ferrand. Ferguson's parents were Pierre and Frances. They lived (and died) in Rapides Parish, LA. I'm thinking that Pierre was the one from France. I have not been able to tie them in with the Hypolite/Eulalie family of Ferrands in Caldwell Parish yet. Are you from Napoleon's line? Please let me know what information you have - Brenda and I have shared lots - it is really great to find another relative!! Thanks, Karen

My husband's grandmother was Olivia Frances Fearrand (Ferrand, Ferand) who 1st married Frank Meyers and 2nd married Lee Arthur Henry from Oakdale, Allen Parish, LA. She was born 3 April 1896 in Warren, Bradley County, AR and died 24 Feb 1957. Her father was Ferguson Fearrand, her brother was George Fearrand, a sister named Lennie (of DeRidder) and a sister named Anna (of Oakdale). George was born in Texas in 1878. I am just beginning to piece together this research on the Fearrand line and was wondering if they fit into your line of Louisiana Ferrands. I have heard for many years that their "French" blood line was Parisian and not Cajun. Thank you for any help. Karen in MS

I'm looking for any information about the parents and possible siblings of my great-grandmother Josephine Ferrand. She was born circa 1865 and married Pierre Cousin in 1887. I have tentatively located her in the 1870 census in St John the Baptist parish, but due to the ages of the people listed I can't work out the family relationships (and I'm not entirely certain that I'm looking at the right family). I have no further information about her family at this time, so I would appreciate whatever information anyone may have.

I am not related to Ferrand's but have long known of a prominent one who lived in Onslow County, Swansboro, N. C. in 1820's till he died in 1847. I haven't seen him mentioned on this forum.
I ran across him while looking for my Riggs G. G. Grandparents and found William P. Ferrand held a note on him in 1837. More recently while checking out Onslow County Jones I ran across a message on Jones Gen Forum # 19956 that stated that William Ferrand married Apr 24, 1809 in Swansboro, N. C. Nancy Jones, daughter of Kilby Jones. There was a write up in the Centineal Jacksonville, N. C. Paper of 1975 about him. Rickey

Hello to all Ferrand researchers! Some years ago, men tried to vandalize the glass covered vault of a young lady in the old abandoned Filhiol-Ferrand Cemetery at Corey; they wanted her jewelry. The vault and others were exhumed and put in another cemetery. Who was this girl and where were they moved to? Was she a daughter of Alfred and Louise (Landerneau) Farrand OR Hardy Holmes and Louise Agnes (Ferrand) Filhiol? I was told she died of yellow fever or malaria, caused by the mosquitos in the Ouachita River, near her home. I remember seeing the old house about 1953; it was said to be haunted. Does this ring a bell? Thank you!
