MUSCATINE, Iowa - Donald Duane Ferrell, 70, of Muscatine, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at his home.
Service at Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory in Muscatine. The Rev. Brenda Goodall will officiate. Pallbearers will be Aaron Shoppa, Andy Shoppa, Juston Crawford, Lorn Crawford, James Ferrell and Joshua Ferrell. A Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Crawford. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Ferrell was born on Feb. 18, 1933, in Blairsburg, the son of Earl V. and Julia Mae Ferrell. He married Elaine Troxel on July 18, 1975, in Muscatine.
He retired as a machine operator for Farmland Industries in 1992. He had also been a driver for Umthun Trucking until 1970.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict having served aboard the U.S.S. Oglethorpe from 1951-1954.
He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion.
He was a bowler and loved fishing, gardening, hunting and visiting with his grandchildren. He collected American Indian and eagle items and was an avid woodworker.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Ferrell of Muscatine; two sons, John Ferrell and his wife, Mary, of Burnsville, Minn., and Kirk Ferrell and his wife, Dorene Chatfield, of Muscatine; five daughters, Debra Simpson of Mason City, Brenda Wood and her husband, Ron, of Renwick, Ellyn Shoppa of Muscatine, Rebecca Phillips and her husband, Jim, of Muscatine and Amanda Dacy and her husband, Paul, of Grandview; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother Sylvester Ferrell of Warsaw, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Earl Victor Ferrell on March 17, 1994, and two brothers George and Junior Ferrell
