Ferris surname in Germany?
I am researching a Henry Ferris, my g-g-g grandfather who was born around 1832 in Hanover, Germany. He immigrated to NY and married a Mary A, from England.
Clearly, the Ferris name is Anglicized...any ideas what the original German could have been? Since I can't find any instance of immigration records, my next step is church records in Germany. I was thinking Ferisch or something close but have come up dry.
Any ideas?
