I just stumbled across the post by Amy Berry. My grandmother was Rose Ferron of the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. I know nothing about my ancestory on my maternal grandmother's side and my mother is deceased. I'm wondering how and where I can research this information. Any help you could give me is appreciated.

Mary Davis

Amy - I can't believe I've stumbled on your post. I've been trying to find some background on my grandmother, Rose Ferron, she was a member of the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. She married Tom Swartz and lived near Keyepaha, SD. I met her nephew, Frank Ferron, when I was young. I remember that he and his wife travelled in a camper with some poodles. I hope you still have access to this post and will contact me.

Mary Davis

We know this to be a relative and that the Ferron (farran) came from the Tyrone Donegal border area during th blight. How far has this Ferron family tree been documented? In Ireland Trinity College is into DNA sampling for ancestry trails back to pre 1000 AD clans. Are you aware of this?
I am Jack Ferron's only son

Re: family tree

Maxime Feron-Ferron married Marie-Louise Martin on October 06, 1874 Saint-Léon, Québec, Canada. Maxime Ferron was the son of Claude-Joseph Feron-Ferron-Ferrand who married Marie Ouellet-Ouellette on February 11, 1833 Saint-Léon, Québec, Canada.
Claude-Joseph Ferron & Marie Ouellette also had another son named Claude Ferron (var-Feron) who was born in 1855 in Canada and he died 1930 in Lowell, Mass and he had 2 marriages. One marriage was to a unknown person (at the moment-found on a query) & she died having a daughter named Zinia. His other marriage was to Georgiana Rabouin born 1859 canada & died 1919 in Lowell, Mass. ONe of those wives had with Claude (JR.) a son named Neree-Henry Feron-Ferrand-Ferron whom married Rose Gauthier-Dit-Delisle. I have much more info and am verifying with records at the moment so if you need decendents or ancestors of these names, write me. I will be at stbegga1@aol.com til Jan 1, 2005, & after that I will be at stbegga@yahoo.com permanently. note the second email does not have the 1# after the name. I am thoroughly working on my Ferron family with records, certificates & documents & am putting on disk- a work in progress as Marie Rose Ferron is my cousin whom I adore & there is too much misinformation out there on the net which is messing up her geneology & that has bothered me. So please bear with my confirmations & I will give certificate #'s with what I have... God Bless & Take Care.. Laurie Ellen Wilkinson

Hi Debie,
I am trying to figure out how Yvonne is connected. Who are her parents? I always thought my grandmother was related to Little Rose by her maiden name Dufresne, I never even imagined it could be by my grandfathers side (Boissoneau)! I just bought a new computer so I haven't got my family tree maker and family tree installed on it yet, but I do have hard copies of a lot of the info. As soon as I install it, I will try to figure out the relation. My grandfather's (Wilfred Rene Boissoneau), parents are Alfred Boissoneau and Clementine Lemay. Alfred's parents are Jean Baptiste Boissoneau and Adelaide Boucher. Let me know if that helps. You can contact me at my email missi3rd@aol.com,
Hope to here from you,
Melissa

Hi everyone,
My grandmother Antoinette Boissoneau (maiden name Dufresne) kept saying that we were related to Little Rose. I am trying to determine how in fact we are related, I am also assuming that it is through the Dufresne side. If anyone has any knowledge of Little Rose and her genealogy could you email me at missi3rd@aol.com? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My grandmothers parents were Prosper Dufresne and Marie Louise Berube married August 21, 1912 and lived in Fall River, Ma. I have more information if needed to verify anything.
Thank you in advance,
Melissa Reis

Yes, I have the Lemay lineage back to about 1630. Clementine Lemay was my great grandmother, Her father was Francois Xavier Lemay m. Caroline Hamel (7/17/1866). They had 5 children: 1. Clementine m. Alfred Boissoneau,
2. Ubald m. Louise Frenette, 3. Joseph Lemay m. Malvina Bergeron, 4. Francois Xavier m. Lydia Blouin, and 5. Olivine m. Zephirin Legendre.
Francois Lemay's parents were Joseph Isaie Lemay m. Cecile Coulombe (1/8/1833). They had 11 children: Pierre, Isaac, Sophronie, Ambroise, Bernard, Francois Xavier, Marie Caroline, Telesphore, Eleucippe, Omer, and Hubert. I do not have any of there spouses at this time. I probably have them in hard copy, but will look it up if needed.
Joseph Isaie's parents were Ambroise Lemay m. Marquerite Landry (2/24/1800) They had 10 children: Marquerite (1801), Ambroise (1802), Marquerite (born in 1804), Ambroise (born in 1805), Marie Angelique, Jacques, Marie Desneiges, Maximien, Joseph Isaie, and Joseph.
I think this may go further back than needed. Let me know if you can connect one of those names to one of the ferron's.
Thank you very much for all your help,
Melissa

Louth, Ireland. They died in the parish of Mt. Morris, NY.(Livingston County)
Terrence Sheflin, jan. 1886, died at 70 yrs.. Cathrine, wife of Terrence, nov. 1882, died at 70 yrs. Mary, dau. of terrence and Cathrine dec 1865, died at age of 26.
Catherine Ferron 1850 - 1926. (and) James Sheflin 1847 - 1903 .Peter B. son, 1877 - 1946.
Have lots more of other info and many photos. Most of the info you mentioned fits with mine. Great!!! Nice to connect with another branch of the family.
I live near Dansville, NY. and will be happy to share my info. Some of it is by word of mouth from family members. I only posted here what can be "proven". Till I hear from you, Carol

Are you familiar with French-Canadian research libraries. Books containing marriages that took place in Quebec Canada 1606-1935 and parish records from counties in Canada and many parishes in selected communities in New England, It may be possible to locate the marriage of Arthur Ferron and Louise. Do you have a location in MA, and a last name for Louise/Loumina?
Is this as far back as you can go with Arthur?
I have a library near me.
Sharon
Sharon

Both names are very French-Canadian. I just forgot what the original version of Houle is but there are many of these families over the Northeast.
Ferron came to Canada about 1758. There are not really a lot of Ferrons. But there is a Robert Descote he has a web site. He does Lefebvre-Descoteaux. We are connnected through the Ferron line to him. He has a lot of collected material And since his family came from the MA area he may be of help. He is out of CA.
my e-mail is sharon.s.sinclair@worldnet.att.net/
I am working at my local French-Canadian library this Sat.
I have looked in the books that we have an boy did we just get a lot of new Mass Church records. There are some Ferron-Ferand in them. But not the ones that you were looking for.
I did try just to see what St Anne d'Yamachiche, QC had for any Athur Ferons to a Houle. There was 1 marriage
Arthur Ferron (Paul-Aurelle Carbonneau)
m 1904-23-8
Parmelia Houle (Joseph-Elisabeth Isabelle)

My experience (limited) is that most all the Ferrons start from St Anne d' Yamachiche parish then some migrate to Trois Rivieres (3 Rivers, St Mauricie, QC)
Would you happen to know what town in Mass your family was from and any brothers and sisters?

Hi Everyone, I, too, am a distant relative of Little Rose. My Grandfather was John Ferron, married to Ida Gaudette, both originally from Canada, and spent most of thier lives in the Brockton, MA area. I'm not sure how John was related to Rose, I believe he was a first cousin. My Aunt, Evelyn Ferron rememered meeting Rose, although she was a young girl. I have a paperback biography of Rose that my brother gave to me. It was written by the priest who championed for her cannonization. Very interesting with some wonderful pictures. My brother visited Little Roses grave a couple of years ago. He and his wife placed a rose on her grave and he said the rose stem curved to the exact shape of the rose on her marker. He said it was very strange at the time. Well that's my family connection to Rose. Thank you. Susan Ferron

I found some info on a book on little Rose, I know the priest is down there to close the chapal.because her sister is in old folks home, I think we are related to Pierre Millet he was A Jesuit priest for the Catholic Church. It is recorded in here. He went to an Indian tribe in New York and was later captured by them the Chief's sister adopted him. I have her name and his of indian on file. but having a hard time going from there. He died in QA our relatives are from and I think the church found out little Rose is related to him. If you talk to Theresa tell her I want to talk to the priest if he did not leave yet. We know we are indian and we don't know why its hidden. I have a lot of info on the Farron family. About 5 back and found out alot on the Augers. If You find stuff I don't know let me know I will let you know everythig I find out. You and I don't speak french so its hard to know from there and that is where I am stuck and I asked for help. To check Beptislims in Quabec. I don't know how to find out more. He was a very important man in the Cathoclic church, he went to teach the indians in New York, he was sent from QA Canada ado[teded by the cheif's sister. her name is like Onasami and he has an indian name I thinkthat is the Catholic church's reason for not letting liitte Rose be a saint.I have been on here alot and I am not sure but it really looks and points to he is our relative. We know we are indian and I can't find it. And it's both sides not one we are alot indian. If you get any info let me know and I'll do the same. Donna

Hi Carol, I just started looking for Sheflin's also. I married Richard Shevlin and we have his family tree. No Sheflin's and Shevlin are two separate families. I have some records from St. Mary's Assumption Church in Scottsville, NY showing that a Catherine Farron and Jacob/James Sheflin married their daughter Rosella to a Leo Gross. Some of this was in latin, so I am wondering if Jacob was James. Now my grandmother Alice Josephine Sheflin was another daughter of their. They also had a James E., Peter, Terrance, Elizabeth, Thomas, Rosella, Frances and there could have a a Jenny. There was a George but he died as a child. My grandmother was born Jan 15. 1886 and married my grandfather Thomas J. Smith on 12 April 1909 in St. Mary's Assumption Church in Scottsville, NY. My mother Nicolas Mary Smith was born April 12, 1910 and was baptized at St. Mary's in Scottville, NY.
I talked last year to a Dorothy Dries from Leroy. She is the daughter of Rosella. In the 1930 Census in the Township of Wheatland you will find Leo Gross and Rosella and Edward (i believe) don't have the paper work in front of me. But Catherine Shefflin is listed as mother-in-law. This time it is spelled with 2 ff's. She is listed as being born in Ireland. But I can't find where they were listed as a family and I can not find a James or Jacob with the list of children that I have for them.
Now, James E. married a Mary E. McCloskey on Dec. 1 1934
I live in Rochester. My name is Irene Shevlin. My phone # is 334-2161. Call me I can give you more information. Maybe we can help each other.

Carol, Nice to hear from another branch of the family. Yes, it is spelled Sheflin. I believe the Census taker mis spelled it in 1930. Since I wrote you I talked to a Gert Sheflin from Mt Morris, she was married to Pete Sheflin, son of Thomas who was married to an Anna Hemmerick, and Thomas was a son of James E. who was a son of Catherine Farron. She told me about all the family that is buried in Avon. I live in Henrietta, NY, but some time this summer I would love to get together. In October my cousin, from Delaware is coming up to work on our ancestry, so if we don't connect during the summer I would love to get to gather while Kathie is up for the week. Her mother and my mother were sisters and our grandmother was a daughter of Catherine Farron. I think this is so neat that we have connected and my daughter Doreen is going to be so excited, as she is the one who wanted me to do this after we had done her Dad's side, the Shevlin's and we can go back 7 generation on her grandmother and grandfather's side of the Shevlin family and they also go back to Ireland.
Carol, do you have a picture of Catherine Farron and James. Yes, I would love to see the pictures that you have. Irene
