Daniel and Mary Fetzer are my gr gr grandparents, I have not been able to find very much about the Fetzer or the Ferber, Farber line. I have their daughter Marianne's fraktur with her mothers maiden name written as Farber. Even knowing Marianns parents names, I have not found much more. The birth of a Daniel born in Aug 1817 and baptism in 1818 at the Salem Lutheran and Reformed Church is probably our Daniel. I have not found anything else on Daniel Fetzer till he shows up on the 1840 and 1850 census and his death notice of 1859. Have you found anything more?

1920 census indicates that Anna immigrated in 1866.
1880 census shows Charles and Anna with children Rosa 9, Lina (Karoline) 7, Anna 5, Bertha 3, Chas. 1
1905 Wisconsin census shows widowed Anna with additional children Godfrey 23 and Clara 16.
1910 census shows Anna with Rosia, Clara, and Godfrey. Indicates 8 of 10 children living -- which leaves one unaccounted for. Indicates immigration in 1851.
1900 census shows Anna/Alma? Schumacher with children Rosa, Frank, and Clara. It indicates immigration in 1852.
1900 census shows Lena and Charley Schumacher (Jr.) living together.
1895 Wisconsin census shows Mrs. Schumacher with 3 sons and 5 daughters.
Charles F. Schumacher died 6 Jul 1892 in Manitowoc.
Children:
Anna M. born 2 Jun 1875
Bertha E. born 9 Feb 1877
Caroline E. born 10 Oct 1881
Clara M. born Dec 1888
Others not readily identifiable in the online index.
Carl H. born 22 Apr 1879 -- possibly Charles Jr.
Frank J. born 15 Sep 1883
Gottfried B. born 22 Aug 1881 -- one of these probably Godfrey
Gottfried C. born 24 Nov 1882

If the 1851/2 immigration is correct, then Anna could be the daughter of Peter and Margaret seen in 1860 Manitowoc.
The problem is that the Anna listed there is much too young.

1850 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Manitowoc Rapids, page 5
Meyers, Valentin 30 M Baden
Nicholas 26 M Baden
Fetzer, Peter 32 M Hessen
Margaret 28 F Hessen
Johan 10 M Hessen
Francis 8 M Hessen
Jacob 6 M Hessen
Eppehart, Margaret 23 F Prussia
Arntz, August 21 M Brunswick
1860 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Manitowoc Rapids, page 34
Fetzer, Peter 42 M Hessen
Margaret 42 F Hessen
John 20 M Hessen
Frank 18 M Hessen
Jacob 16 M Hessen
Anne 3 F Wisconsin
Emma 4/12 F Wisconsin

1870 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Franklin page 35
Fetzer, Godfred 56 M Hesse
Rosanne 57 F Hesse
Bernard 23 M Hesse
Ann 22 F Hesse
Charles 20 M Hesse
Joseph 15 M Hesse
Frank 15 M Hesse

1870 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Franklin, page 34
Fetzer, Henry 23 M Hesse
Thracey 18 F Byren (Bayern?)

1870 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Kossuth, page 4
Fetzer, Francis 58 M Hesse
Elizabeth 50 F Naussa (Nassau?)
Henry 24 M Hesse
Frank 20 M Hesse
Elizabeth 18 F Hesse
Josephine 9 F Hesse

1870 Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Manitowoc Ward 4, page 24
Shoemaker, Charles 25 M Prussia
Anna 21 F Hesse

www.2manitowoc.com has a fair amount of info on the Fetzers of Manitowoc, including the following...

(Franz and Elizabetha (PFEIFFER) FETZER, came to Rockwood (Kossuth Twnshp.) in 1866
from Sporkenheimer Hof by Ingelheim, Hessen-Darmstadt. Their children Joseph,
Heinrich, Anna, Franz, Elizabeth, Phillip, and Josephine came at the same time.
Franz's brothers, Gottfried and Peter FETZER, also brought their families to the area.
Sent in by researcher/see contributors page)

Declaration of Intent (Immigration)
Surname, First; Origin; Birth; Port; Entry; Filing
Fetzer, Franz; Germany; 1812; NY; Mar 1865; 29 Jun 1867
Fetzer, Gottfried; Hessen Darmstadt; 1814; NY; Oct 1852; 20 Oct 1852
Fetzer, Peter; Hessen; 1818; NY; Jun 1850; 1 Apr 1851

Indications that there were multiple marriages between Fetzer and Pitz families and that both originated in/near town of Ingelheim.

Your Anna Mary Fetzer would be the daughter of one of those three brothers.

IGI transcriptions of Ingleheim/Gaulsheim records show two instances of Anna Maria Fetzer, one christened 5 Jul 1848 of Gottfrid and Rosina Werner Fetzer; the other born 18 May 1847 to Francis and Elisabetha Pfeiffer Fetzer.

Combining the IGI info with the 1900 census showing Anna born in July 1848 and with the names of some of her children, I would conclude that your Anna Mary Fetzer is the daughter of Gottfried Fetzer and Rosina Werner.

The Fetzers can be traced back in Ingelheim. IGI lists these and you can find the original German records on microfilm.
Francis, Anna Maria, Anna Margretha, Peter, Christian, and Gottfried -- children of Peter Fetzer and Catherine Pilger.
The German records probably go back several more generations, but you will likely have to go to the microfilm to sort them out.

John Fetzer

I am looking for information on the Fetzers that lived in Cleveland Ohio (Cuyahoga County).

My great grandfather was Carl Stephan Fetzer born January 26 1892. Carl was part owner of the Scott&Fetzer Company.

Carl's father was John S. Fetzer born in Wuerttemburg around 1846. I am not sure when he came to the US but I suspect that it was in the 1850's. John married Anna Rosa Knecht in 1867 and they had 5 children , only 3 lived to adulthood.

Anna Rosa died in 1882 and John Fetzer remarried Elizabeth Spies. They had 5 more children.

I have a hunch who John Fetzers father was, but I am not sure. The last census I can find John on is 1870. John Fetzer died in 1899

Please let me know if you have any information on John Fetzer and his parents.

Thanks

No exact timeframe, but Catherine's grandmother Maria Salome Berkheimer (nee Hallman) was the daughter of Anthony Hallman/Heilmann (b abt. 1671 - d 1759). No birthdate for Catherine, but her brother George was born 1773. Nothing in the Hallman Family Association's files as to their residence - they could have remained in the Skippack, PA area, or moved away.
Thanks for your interest and any information you're able to share.

Elizabeth Johanna Fetzer / Springfield, Illinois

This is a response to Lisa Thompson's query 09 Feb 2003.
My name is William Gand. My Grandfather was Charles Fetzer (1857 - 1937), and his father was John Phillip Fetzer ( 1821 - ?). Jacob Fetzer ( 1818 - ?) was John Phillip Fetzer's brother.
The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index shows that John P Webber married Maria L Fetzer on 05/17/1877. If you assume that this is you Elizabeth Johanna Fetzer, than perhaps she is Jacob Fetzer's daughter. Jacob had a daughter, Maria, born 1859. My source for this is the 1860 census in Springfield, Illinois.
Have you been able to search any further back? I haven't. If you have anymore information on the Fetzers, I would appreciate learning of it.
Bill Gand

I have a Fetzer line with Charles Fetzer b. 2 Apr. 1904, prob. Martinsburg, WVA. I do not have any of his children but I do have his brothers and sisters names. John Bernard, Sophia, Naomi, George and Mary. If this looks like your family, I have all of Charles's line back for a number of generations. Charles' s father was George Henry Fetzer. Let me know if this looks possible.

At another house I have a book written in German with vital statistics for the neighborhood, so to speak! I will take a look and see if your line might be mentioned. The neighborhood of the Fetzer line I follow is southwest Germany near Alsace Lorraine.

Johan Georg and his wife Frida settled in Germany and one of their daughters, Agnes, my grand-mother, married Jonas Arthur Paul Rode and emigrated to South Africa. Most of their descendants still live here (as do I).
From the dates it would seem that Johan Heinrich was of the same generation as Johan Georg. With different fathers, he might have been a cousin or second-cousin i.e. Johan Nikolas might have been a brother or a cousin to Andreas, Johan George's father. I have no info yet regarding those relationships.
Maybe some-one else has further info that they could share with us. Meantime I will certainly be consulting my maps of Germany.

I am descended from William Britain Fetzer, brother of Sarah, son for Isaac and Susanna Frampton. There were 11 children. I haven't any proven information beyond Isaac. I do believe his father was Frederik Fetzer (4 Jul 1776) as Frederik married Rachel Britain (10 jul 1730-22 Oct 1795) Since my ancestor is named William Britain...I believe they are related. Also William has a sister named Rachel. I have no further information on Frederick or Rachel. If you would like the names and birthdates of the other children of Isaac, please let me know.

Some updates...
I've been examining the church records of Gingen an der Fils (a small village near Ulm) which include the marriage of Matthaus (or Matthias) Fetzer to Anna Agatha Eberhardt in 1719 and the births of their children. I believe that I can now say with fair certainty that Georg and Matthaus on the Duke of Bedford were not brothers, but cousins -- Matthaus is indeed the child of Matthaus and Agatha Eberhard, but Georg is not.
My current hypothesis is that Georg was the son, born 1724, of Joachim Fetzer and Agnes Villforth in Gingen. There are one or two other candidate Georg Fetzers born around that time period but, based on this Georg having named his eldest son Joachim, I believe that Joachim and Agnes are the best fit.

Recent transcription of very deteriorated family bible includes surnames WACKLE, WELEVER, FETZER, HETZEL and DRUM. MY Welever-Wackle family came from Wood and Lucas County Ohio 1840's forward. Have a few marriages, births and deaths. Not sure of other Ohio county connections, may have southern Michigan roots also from these lines. Contact me if anything looks familiar.

Debbie

I would like to know more about the FETZER information you have as that line passed through Ohio on its way to Indiana. One, Jacob FETZER (1830-1870), stayed and married (1 Sept 1861 in Newark, Licking, OH) Mary OGLE (1826-1897)and had a daughter Anna (1867--?). So if there is a tie I would really like to know!! Thanks

Worth FETZER (1925-1978)

Worth was the son of Clarence FETZER and Maude SIX. He was born in North Liberty, St. Joseph, IN and died in Napa, Napa, CA. He married two times that I know---Terry DOSS (Div.) and Christine CATE. The children from these marriages are my wife's second cousins and we would like to have some contact with them (Clarence, Sandra, Michael and James).

Clarence was one of four children of John FETZER (1843-1916) and Margaret COIL (1848-1923).

Thank you

Wilhelmina Fetzer / Peter Hartman Germany

Ran across a obit about the son of Wilhelmina (Fetzer) and Peter Hartman of Germany. Rev J. H. Hartman died in 1930 (sorry no date in article) on Tuesday -- if he lived until Sept 9 he would have been 82 years old. He emigrated at age of 4 with his parents to Tamaqua, PA. He was survived by Henry Hartman and was buried Thursday at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA.

Hope this is help to someone.
