thanks for the update. could you please tell me about chet, as we were good friends in junior high school in orlando, fl. where did he settle down/family/profession/
living/whatever you care to pass along. funny thing about his two younger (?) sisters. they took fred and i to a drive-in movie, probably 1950, the two girls in front and chet and i in the back. i was biting my finger nails back in those days, and one of the sisters turned around and told me to quit. i did... to this day. oh, the silly things we old timers remember. joseph, newport ri

Hi Joseph, I just today read your post & may have some info for you to check out. There's a group on FaceBook called "The Feuerbacher Family Association" & I'm one of the admins. There are 119 members! One of the members is a young man by the name of James Feuerbacher, from Gulf Breeze Fla. He still has lots of relatives in Fla. I talked to him on the phone about 2-3 months ago. He's stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the Army. He wants to find some other Feuerbachers but didn't have a lot of time to do research. You can contact him on FaceBook & swap info. They may in fact be related to him. It will be interesting to find out. Hope this info helps.

Hello Joseph. My name is Kaye, I am the administrator of this board and the Feuerbacher mail list. Most of our subscribers are descended of Alwin (Alvin) Feuerbacher who settled in Texas in 1883. So far, we have found no connection to the Feuerbacher families from FL, NY and MO. Not to say that there couldn't be some descendents of Alwin who have moved to FL, but normally the FL Feuerbachers are not our line. Maybe someone else from the FL line will see this and be able to help, but I'm sorry that I can't help you. I will check my database though and to make sure I didn't miss one of our cousins who was living in FL during that timeframe.

Growing up in Orlando, FL in the late forties and early fifties, I had a very good friend whose name was Fred (Chet) Feuerbacher. Fred had three older sisters, two, in their twenties, were unmarried. Third sister married a Hiedrick, living in Winter Park. His family were in the fruit business, i.e., peaches from GA, oranges from FL. Chet's mother and my mother were friends. Fred's family always had a big Lincoln and either a Kaiser or Frazer automobile. We lost contact after high school when I joined the Navy in 1954. Joseph Smith, Newport RI

Well, Nik, you are not going to believe this! Your father is in my database! He was born in in San Luis-Obispo, CA and his parents were Garland and Janice Feuerbacher. His middle name was spelled Vaughn. He is part of our Texas Feuerbacher line and I can give you all kinds of information on your ancestors, including pictures of the ships your great, great great grandparents came from Germany on in the 1880's. Since your grandmother is aparantly still alive, I don't want to post all this online on a public forum. Please email me at kayewemail-fmhist@yahoo.com and I will send you all the information you could possibly want.

Hi Nik,
If your last name if Feuerbacher---you are German! We will have to have more info to help you with your project. Your grandmother, Janice, would only be a Feuerbacher by marriage so it is your Grandfather Feuerbacher's name we would need. And at least your state. Was 'von' a part of your father's last name as in 'von Feuerbacher' or was it a middle name--as 'Richard Von Feuerbacher'? Or could it have been Vaughn? I need info on your earliest known Feuerbacher ancestor in order to help you--or to tell you that I can't help at all. Older records are much easier to find than more recent records because of privacy laws for people who are probably still living. I have a Feuerbacher descendent book for my line, but people of your father's generation would be too young to be in the book. Where did your father die--what state and when? That may help me dig a little for you. If you are from the Missouri line of Feuerbachers I may be able to help just a little. If you are from the TX line, I can probably give you all you want to know--and more. There are also NY and FL lines. I might be able to put you in touch with someone from those lines that can help. We haven't yet been able to connect the different lines.

Again, you can contact me privately at kayewemail-fmhist@yahoo.com. We can have a private conversation there. Your parents may not want you giving out some of this info on a public forum.

Hi Nik. My name is Dianne Lyles & I live in Carrollton, Texas (a suburb of Dallas.) Where do you live? Who is your father, grand father & great grand father?
My mother was born Billie Jean Feuerbacher in Dec 1926, (& later married George Miller.) She is the last living child of Gustav Adolf Feuerbacher (my grandfather), Uncle Gus to everyone that knew him. He died when I was in the 2nd grade, Dec 16,1953.
I'm sure we are cousins somewhere along the line. Please look on rootsweb.com or ancestry.com & you can find TONS of info about the Feuerbachers, mostly in Texas. You can also get on a mailing list & will get an email when anyone posts info about the Feuerbachers. It's so cool. Our cousin Kaye Wykoff takes care of it. She is EXTREMELY knowledgable about the family as she took over Chester Feuerbacher's (another cousin) geneology efforts after he died many years ago. She's very sweet & helpful too.
You can email me directly if you like at oldcrafter1@yahoo.com. Hope to hear from you soon.
Hi Eric, so glad to hear from you. Yes you are definitely part of our family. Several of the older children of Alwin & Emma settled in the Dallas area, Uncle Gus being one of them. If you'll contact me off board at kwykoff@sbcglobal.net, I'll help you sign up for the Feuerbacher mailing list. My brother is still in Austin and my son is in school there now. I've found your family in Cousin Chester's book, but it stops with your father. I would love to bring it up to date. I've entered the whole book in my genealogy program and want to keep the lines updated. Maybe you or someone from your family can help me with your line. Someday we want to have a big reunion. Your father is of my generation and you and my children are about the same age. Looking forward to hearing from you. There is another line in the Arlington area that I'm in touch with, but you are the first from Gus's line I think. I'm really excited to hear from you!

Ok so I think we are related not because we have the same last name but we share the same family history. lol Ok I am 21 and live in Austin, Texas but I am originally from Dallas where my clan of Feuerbacher's are from. My father's name is Charles Feuerbacher and his father is Harry Feuerbacher. From what I understand everything you stated in your summary is all we know as well. I havent done so much research as you have but that is all the information we have and that came from a little family book that I got my hands on from my grandparents. So anyway saw your posting and got excited thought I would say hello and introduce myself. I guess we are cousins somewhere down the line or something. Write me back if you want and let me know if you know any of my family here in Texas.

Thanks for your response and you are right. You'll have to tell us who you are and how you are related to us? I agree that we need to find records in Germany. Several people have looked for these records, but the problem is we don't really know WHERE to look. There seems to be virtually no info on Alwin except that his mother was Hedwig and maybe he did some theatrical carpentry in Vienna. He said he was born in Saxony but what province or what Parish????? If you have answers, please let us know. I contacted a man in Germany who has done a lot of Feuerbacher research over there, but knows nothing of Alwin and also asks about the area and parish of Germany that he came from. I have learned that we are probably not related to the Fabacher's in New Orleans. Fabacher appears not to be an Americanized version of Feuerbacher, as I was always told, but actually a version of a French name from the southwestern part of Germany on the French border. Do you have all the Hernsdorf information that Chester gathered?

I don't know if anyone has done this before but it may be a good idea to find records in germany that cannot be found online. I am trying to find people and places there where I could send a letter to see if I can find anything, I will let you know if I do.

Re: Mary Watts family

Sam,

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you.

We have a few letters written to Mary Watts as well as some of her children (Aunt Mary for one) by some of the other Watts. I recall Aunt Tilly's name, but I am sure there were a few more.

We have a few photos of Watts family members, about 40, most in poor shape. I will add a link to them on my photo collection web site in a few days. You can find the photos at http://brisbin.net/frankweb/ (yes, you have to enter the last slash). These photos are just the ones I have scanned so far. Over time I will probably find a few more with Watts in them, but most of the portraits should already be there. As I recall, we have Aunt Tilly, Uncle Henry, Uncle John, Babe, Grandmother Watts, GrandFather Watts, and other unidentified Watts.

The photos you see on my website are at a low resolution. I have scans at much higher resolution, suitable for photos. I can easily generate a CD with all of the images on them, or, if you prefer, I can have prints made of whatever size you like and sent to you.

I can provide you with copies of the letters as well (I think my brother Brian has them right now).

I do not know much about the Watts side of the family. I would love to trade stories. My Uncle Jack (Mary's 11th child) is the last of her brood. I think he is about 86 years old and living in Nashville. Let me know if you wish to contact him, or any of the grandchildren of Mary.

Frank

Re: Feuerbacher/Fabacher

I am another descendant of Alvin Feuerbacher. My father is
Jasper Newton (Buddy) Feuerbacher, his father was
Frank Paul Feuerbacher (he also went by Paul Frank) and
his dad was Alvin. I have a ton of old photos mostly from
Daisy Bell Feuerbacher-Grubb. I am slowly going through them and scanning a few. There are many that I don't know
who they are of, but they include some from the 1890's
of Alvin at a shop making columns for the Texas Capitol.
There are some from Mary Watt's family as well as
Emma Hernsdorf's family.

I do not have a lot of time to spend on research, but I
do have an interest in family history. I have cousin
Chester's booklet. I am willing to share photos, etc.

I am in posession of a family heirloom that I would like more information on. I have these two vases made in Meissen. The trademark indicates they were made by the "Meissen ofen und Porzellanfabrik vorm C. Teichert" or more likely by "Kronach Porcelan Factory Stockhardt & Schmidt-Eckhert in Kronach" (which one depends on when they were made, probably after 1925). The family folklore is that they were sent by some relatives in Germany during the depression in thanks for money sent to them during the very difficult times after WWI. I believe they came from the Hernsdorf side. Does anyone have more information on this? My wife and I are planning to vacation in Germany soon. It would be lovely to make some contact and find out what happend to the other two vases that were sent but had to be returned because of the high import duty.

Kaye,

Thanks for setting up the mailing list. I forwarded your note to my family as well as cousin David (son of George and Margaret).

I did go to Germany a year ago and stayed a month. It was wonderful! I only spent a few days in Dresden and one day in Meissen. I did not investigate Feuerbacher's because I realized it could take weeks and I did not want to bore my wife to death.

I have been very busy with unpleasant family matters the past few years and I am slowly coming out of it (I hope). I have been spending a lot of time scanning photographs and negatives. They are mostly of my immediate family, but I have a few old ones (1890 onward). It is a slow process and I have thousands of photographs and negatives to go through, organize and make some attempt of identifying. It will take me years.

I would be happy to meet with you sometime if you want to go through the photos. They are poorly organized, but I am improving on it constantly. One big problem is that the photos from my different family lines have become scrambled and it will take some time to untangle. I have some photos (~500) on the web now in a crude fashion (http://brisbin.net/frankweb/). By the end of the year I hope to have a lot more photos and better organization (I am buying Adobe Photoshop Album). I can burn CDs and I can support various formats, etc.

Of particular interest to you are probably the very old photos and negatives. Some of the scan to make some nice images. I would guess that I have well over a hundered negatives that are pre-1930. Most will be of Alvin's son, Paul, and his family, but you do see some others. I hope to have these very old ones scanned early next year, but I will be doing a few before then. If you want more info just ask.

I would be happy to give you any information that I can regarding births/deaths, wild stories, rumors, etc. in my branch of the family.

Frank

I know very little about my Feuerbacher cousins and would like to know more. I have a couple of copies of photos of Mary and "Pop" and some of their children, but that's about all. I would love to somehow get copies of the pictures you mentioned in your message, of Mary's family, and also of Mary and Pop's children and descendants.

Hi John,
My name is Kaye Wykoff. I administer the FEUERBACHER mailing list which receives messages posted on the FEUERBACHER message board. Most of us that have subscribed to the list are descendents of Alvin F Feuerbacher & wife Emma (Hernsdorf) who immigrated to the US and to Austin Texas in the 1880's. There are, however, one or two subscribers who are from the NE. Maybe they can help you. We'd like to stay in touch with you so that we can connect to the NY Feuerbacher's someday. We have hit up against a brick wall in finding Alvin's ancestors. All we know is that he was from the Saxony region of Germany and that his mother's name was Hedwig. I have found Feuerbacher's in NY, Florida, Missouri and elsewhere that we haven't connected to yet.

In order to see what the List is all about and to subscribe to the List go to www.rootsweb.com . Then click on the tab 'mailing lists'. Under surnames click on the 'F', then scroll down to 'Feuerbacher'. There you will find directions to subscribe and unsubscribe to the Feuerbacher list. If you go to "Browse the Archives" you'll see a history of the posting and find the family from NY. If you subscribe to the List you will be notified of all posting to the message board also--not only the replies to your own post. Good Luck and keep us apprised of your search.
Kaye Wykoff
Hi Frank, Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Thanks for the note. I went to your photo website and really enjoyed looking at some of the pics. I had trouble though identifying who was who? Who is April & who was Dad id'd in her pictures? Who is Stephanie? I just didn't have a good point of reference. I knew who Aunt Daisy was of course--but when were those pictures of her taken? Especially the one holding the picture of Gene? That was Gene wasn't it?

I am really interested in any pictures you can send. I have no problem with .jpg, .tif or most of the formats. You can just email them if you'd like. Just please id them for me--at least what you know. I'd also like to have pics of those vases you spoke of. Sounds like a real treasure! Didn't you tell me that you had a photo of Alvin working on the Capital columns? I'd love that!

I'd like to know what you use to scan negatives. I checked into that and was told the technology wasn't quite there yet. I have hundreds of about 2" x 4" negatives but all the scanners only take the standard 35mm strips. I have a scanner and thought I'd just buy a negative scanner when they got better. I have Adobe Photos Deluxe and don't like it. I like Photoshop Elements better for editing and then I upload to HP albums at hpphoto.com. Let me know how you like Adobe Photoshop Album. I can email links to my albums to people and then they can download, print or order prints from HP. Works well.

I heard from Cousin David and he let me add him to the mailing list. Can I add you, too?
Kaye

Before you go to Germany, let me know. I'm trying to get the address of a man named Karl-Ernst Feuerbacher who is supposed to have been researching the Feuerbacher family for years. I think he is in SW Germany. I have an email address for him that I haven't gotten a response from, but neither have I gotten a bounce. Do you speak German? What area of the country are you from? Why don't you give us a short outline of your ancestry--maybe someone will tie in!
Kaye

Hi June,
I have finally established the Feuerbacher-L list through RootsWeb. The posts to this message board will be gatewayed to the Feuerbacher List. That way, if you are subscribed to the list in either list or digest mode, you will be notified of all new posts here on the message board. I want to encourage all of you interested in the Feuerbacher family genealogy to subscribe to our list. You can do that by going to rootsweb.com and following the links to the mailing lists. Then find the surname lists--the letter 'F'--then 'Feuerbacher'. Follow the directions to subscribe. If you have a problem finding it, just email me at kwykoff@sbcglobal.net and I can manually subscribe you. Hope to hear from you.
