Re: Revised Feustel Family Tree

Opps! I forgot to mention that it would be great if we could locate photos of some of these people. I have two copies of photos of Louis and Theresa neither of which is very good. One is a copy of their wedding photo with the eyes drawn in pen (a bit scary) and the other is an old newspaper photo on their 40th or 50th anniversary. I can post these unless someone has better copies. I have ones of my grandfather but none of his siblings except Harry. It would be great to locate more.

Please check out photos with your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. It is easy to scan photos and upload them. Let's make this "our" tree that we can share with our families.

Revised Feustel Family Tree

Please view my recently revised Feustel Family Tree. Some of this research is posted on my East Tree, but this is an effort to focus on the original Long Island Feustels with the goal of getting back to the Werdau/Zwickau area of Germany.

I have included the 12 children of Louis Feustel and Theresa Podlipska with dates. I added their children names that I know but left off dates. The question is whether to have it be a private or public tree. It seems that leaving it a public tree, while limiting more recent generations, will catch the attention of more people. What are your thoughts?

I also added some additional information on the Podlipsky daughter's husbands. There are likely spelling errors, but my thinking is that the wider we cast our net, the more likely we are to make that connection back to Europe.

Hello Kathleen,
Yes, I think my grandmother Irene Feustel (Halliday) mentioned you. I believe she said that you used to be in touch but that there has not been contact for a few years. I'm sure she'd like to hear an update on how you are doing. Feel free to e-mail me at jdavisnyc@gmail.com. I'd like to hear more about your father and my grandfather. I'll be seeing Irene in the next week or two so perhaps she can help fill in some gaps. I also have a full list of the brothers and sisters w/birthdays that August transcribed shortly before his death. I will post soon.
All the Best!

~Jeremy

Hi! I, my name is Kathleen (Feustel) Cusano, and I, too, worked at Roosevelt Raceway for about 5 years, from 1963 - 1968. I was secretary to Amanda (Feustel) Dooley. I worked with Irene Halliday, who married Edward Feustel, my father's cousin. My grandfather was Harry Feustel, brother of Louis, George, August, etc., and also a horse trainer, not as famous as Louis! My father, Harry Richard Feustel, died in 1970, and I'm an only-child, with an only-child. Let me know if you have questions. I don't know a lot, but may have some little bit of info for you.

My husband came upon this posting quite by accident and called me in to see it. My maiden name is Feustel, and the Harry Feustel you mention was my grandfather. He had two children, Harry (my father) and Marjorie. I'm an only child, but my Aunt Marjorie had 3 children, and it is probably my cousin, John, was referred to in another posting. I know he was trying to trace the family tree a number of years ago. My dad, Harry Richard Feustel, died in 1970. He was married to Marcella Engelbosch. Please feel free to contact me. My e-mail address is kathycusano@optonline.net

I had actually had my information a bit mixed on that last post. My grandfather, Irving, was married to Theresa Hammrich, and his parents were Louis Henry Feistel of Werdau, Germany, and Theresa Podlipsky, of Denmark. I've been told that Louis' father was called Maximus, though I don't know his mother's name, and Theresa is daughter of Joseph Podlipsky, of Czechoslovakia and Anna Janizka, of Bohemia. That's about as far as back as I've managed to come.

I'm terribly sorry for the, well, eight year delay, but I just now came across your response.

It was actually my great aunt who told me that. Her name is Adelaide, daughter of Irving, who was brother to Louis and Henry. She was the one to supply the most information regarding the Feustel family tree. Unfortunately, however, I have not been able to trace beyond him. I know that Louis, Henry, Irving, and their other nine siblings' parents were Louis Feistel and Theresa Podlipsky. I've found the names of Theresa's parents, Joseph Podlipsky and Anna Janizka, and her sisters, but beyond that, I've found nothing. I'm hoping that, from all these years past, you may have stumbled upon something further. If so, I would love to hear.

Louis Feustel, my great, great uncle, was married to Laura Adelaide East, daughter of Charles East and Laurina Hendricksen, of Buckinghamshire, England, and Lemoeck, Denmark, respectively. Charles East was the son of Henry East and Mary Cousens. Mary was the daughter of William Cousens and Elizabeth Worth. Laura was the daughter of Henry Christian Hendricksen (I've also found records of his name as Henrik Christian Jensen) and Elsa (Else) Pederson.

I've just rediscovered this post, and, in the meantime, I've found that my great, great grandfather, Louis Henry Feustel, was born in Werdau, Germany, in 1852. Seeing that Werdau and Zwickau are just about the same place, there's likely a good chance we are distantly related.

Hello all,
I have a little bit of information from my mother. My great grandfather is Fred Feustel, one of 12-13 children.
Sisters; Amanda, Harriet
Brothers; George, August, Erving, Louis (Horse Trainer of Man of War) ,? ,? ,?

George had a daughter, named her Amanda. She was apparently a big wig at Roosevelt raceway. She moved down to Florida at some point. Her uncle Louis moved in with her in her later years. My mother (Amanda Feustel as well) spent many summers of her youth there and mentioned that Louis was always quite nice to her.

My grandmother married Edward Feustel and worked at Roosevelt raceway for many years. I will speak with her soon and go through the website to try to piece this together a bit more.

Thanks all!!!

Came across this site and thought I'd throw my two cents in. My grandfather is also named Edward Feustel, hence my middle name. I have little to no info on his lineage accept for the fact that he grew up in Queens New York and then moved to an original Levittown house after the war. Just thought it was interesting. Will post more as I research

He went to Fairport, IA in 1845 and died in Muskatine, IA in 1876. I've got a fairly good trace since then, but there may well be relatives who remained in Ohio.
Hi Sara,
I hope this will get to you. My grgrandfather, Louis George Wannenwetsch Sr. was a full sib to your Emma Louisa Wannenwetsch-Seibold. I was hoping you might be able to supply our family with some photos of Charles William Seibold and his wife or his brothers and sisters as well as farther down your line to you. We have photos of Emma and her husband, Wlliam, and a Wannenwetsch family gathering at the W farm with her and 2 of her boys shown in c. 1893. Plus many more old photos of Emma's parents, brothers and sisters, step mother and half brothers and sisters. Plus we now have 3 generations of W's traced back in Germany in Kirchheim unter Teck. You might like to see the whole 9 generation descenadant lines. hope to hear from you.
Susanne Scott-Wayland

Re: Zwickau, Germany Feustels

Just received some birth/baptism records from Zwickau, and one godparent listed was: "Mstr. Johann Heinrich Feustel, Bürger und Bürstenmacher allhier." This record was from 15 Dec. 1846, and this master broom maker was a citizen here (in Zwickau). Now, this wouldn't be so interesting were it not that the next older brother of the child being baptized wrote late in life of the family's coming to America by saying that the eldest brother had been sent ahead in 1853 to meet his father's comrade-in-arms from the 1848 revolution. This apparently went well, and the rest of the family came then in mid-1854, and were met in St. Louis by (you guessed it!)…Mr. Feustel !!

Feustel - Greiz, Germany - Reverend

Reverend P. Gustav Adolf FEUSTEL, born 08 Nov 1848, in either Greiz or Untergrochlitz (my Great-Great-Grandfather), came to the USA at age 19 to attend seminary in St. Louis, MO and become a Lutheran missionary & pastor. His father, Johann Feustel, was also said to have been a missionary who brought back to Greiz a wife with red hair from the British Isles.
Note: located from Greiz to the SW are the villages of Untergrochlitz (2km), Moschwitz (4km), and Pansdorf (6km) as crow flies. Located E of Greiz are the villages of Pohlitz, Raasdorf, Mohlsdorf, Hermannsgrun, Reudnitz, Gottesgrun, Reuth, Beiersdorf, and Lichtentanne (which is closer to Zwickau).
The LDS Pedigree Resource File lists Jeremias FEUSTEL, born about 1710 in Moschwitz, and a few other Feustel records for Greiz and Hermannsgrun or Reudnitz by individual submitters. It appears no IGI records for FEUSTEL in Greiz area are available online yet, nor are LDS microfilms available in the USA for the EKMD (Evangelische Kirche Mittel Deutschland) Evangelical Lutheran Church Middle Germany.
I will be traveling to Greiz about Jun 1, 2007. I am hoping to discover if church records are accessible and perhaps to hire a German genealogist researcher there to look up church archive records.
Anyone researching Feustel relatives in the area of Greiz, please contact me.
Edith FEUSTEL of Massachusetts

I recently purchased an old book of James Russell Lowell's poetry. The flyleaf is signed "Edith S Feustel May 19, 1906". I did a quick lookup and found Edith alive in 1930, age 60, single, living with her sister Mary( Feustel) Huke, age 58 and divorced,a teacher; niece Aline Huke(yes, the famous mathematician) age 26,teacher, and Edith & Mary's aunt Jane P Marsh age 89; in So. Hadley, MA. A bit of further lookup found Aunt Jane in Kennebunkport, ME, in 1920 on Lock Street with 2 elderly female relatives.
Is there any relative who would like this nice old book with Edith Feustel's signature? It was printed in Cambridge, MA, 1896. I'd be glad to send it to a family member.
dotsicle@surfbest.net

My email address has changed as well It is amazing to see how many Feustel's are out there. I know my line originated in Bon Bon Germany. Feustel means "Little Fist" in German. We were Pugilists and Jurists (Boxers and lawyers) I know this holds true. We are all good fighter and will fight at the drop of a hat. I also have cousins that are lawyers and I myself started to pursue that career until I got side tracked. One man commented that we are all related. I know this is not true. I know I am not related to Louis Feustel who trained the greatest race horse that ever lived "Man O' War" I do however know my Great-Grandfather was named August Feustel. His son (my grandfather was Charles Feustel. My father is Thomas Feustel. I have an Uncle Charlie Feustel Jr. (FL), Daniel Feustel (MD), Robert Feustel (FL), Richard Feustel(Deceased), and an Aunt Mary-Jean Feustel (FL), now Rueck. Have many cousins all over the US. My Father and his brothers and sister were born and grew up Brooklyn, NY. I was born and grew up in MD. My immediate family moved to FL in 86'. We are still here. My email address in scottfeustel@hotmail.com.
Feustel, Family

My grand-children are of the "Feustel" name. I would like an email with as far back in history to share that with them. This will make them more knowledegable regarding their history - It will also give the teen-agres somthing to study. Kids spend far too much time on the computer - If they had an item to research, this would be more constructive.
.
Thanks From Gramd-Ma FEUSTEL

I am Louis Feustel's granddaughter. Laura East was my grandmother. She had a brother, but I am not sure of his name. Charles East was living with the Feustels in the 1930 census. He was my grandmother's father.
