I am just weighing in on this thread. I have been working on my wife's Fewell line for a couple of years, and just came onto this message board. I read through lots of the historic messages, and learned a lot, but I thought it might be best if I briefly told what I know already (or think I know) and see if anyone can help me.
My wife Melanie's Great grandmother was Arliva Caroline Fewell who married John Wesley Noble in Iowa in about 1874.
We know Arliva's father was William Fewell who married Gertrude SAUCIER in Postville, Iowa on February 22, 1853. William was born about 1820 we think, but we have no firm birthdate for him.
The census indicates that this William's father was also named William and was probably born about about 1792 according to his age on the census. He had brothers named Henry and Anderson. We know Anderson was born January 14, 1821.
Now this is where I get uncertain. Based on what I have been reading on this Fewell Board, everyone agrees there was a William Fewell, who married Elizabeth Dearing Wall. His birthday fits this William, so they may be the same person.
We think a William Fewell died in 1862 in Postville, IA.
So if this all hangs together then William (1792) is probably the father of William (Circa 1820), and so on.
It would be great if someone has information to validate this with more certainty.
Finally I have surmised that William (1792) is the son of Benjamin Fewell (born October 18, 1769) married Anne (Nancy) Wall (born April 03, 1769), but have nothing to prove this.
I was intrigued to learn there is a Fewell book, so I am hopeful there is more information to help me solidify all this research.
Any help in greatly appreciated
