Lewis - just to clarify your Johann Frederick Fichter is the same as my Freidrich, and Gabriel and John were brothers. I didn't want to confuse you or anyone else. Heck I just wish we could find some new info on our forefathers, let alone some pictures or paintings.

Here is my lineage starting the farthest back that i truly can document. I have seen a Johann Nicholas listed as Nicholas's father but there is no evidence to back it up. Anyway here it is.

gggggg (6 greats) Nicholas Fichter

ggggg Freidrich Fichter

gggg Gabriel Fichter

ggg Albert C. Fichter

gg Joseph A. Fichter

g Leonard E. Fichter

grandfather William J.
Hello Jan,

at first: no I do not know anything about your family.
But the name "Fichter" is not very common in the area of Königswusterhausen (this is located near Berlin).

The Fichter's are mostly located in southern Germany (from the French border to the region of the town Heilbronn and then again in the very south in the border region to Switzerland).

It would be interesting to get to know how your family got into the Berlin area and then further to Irkutsk.
Maybe you should try to find answers to the Irkutsks movement first. With only few Fichters in the Berlin area, there is quite a good chance to find some information.

Best Regards
Thomas Fichter

My records show that Nicholas died sometime in 1761, in Munchweiler Asace Lorainne, Germany. His father was Johann Nikolaus Fichter, born sometime in 1703, date of death unknown. His mother was Magalena Roser, dates of birth and death unknown. His Great-Grandfather was Johannes Bartholomeu Fichter, born in 1682, died 16 April 1728.I have no info on his Grat Grandmother. My record also show that Nicholas and Rosina had at least five children.

Lewis Scott Fichter
Posted 4/15/2011

I am Jeannette Frandsen,angiewoad2@charter.net. I'm using by husband's account
Like Carole, I am looking for our mutual Alsatian family. Here is the information I have. Peter FICHTER, born Dec, 13 1851 or 52 in or near Strasbourg, Alsace-Lorraine. He was naturalized in Cincinnati, Ohio on Dec. 12, 1883. From a scrap I found the names of what I think are siblings are: : Nicholas, Carl, Madelaine (married and lived in LaHarve, France. My father visited her during WW 1) and Jochim. Carl also immigrated, but we have no information on him.
I do know that he immigrated through the Port of New Orleans. I believe Nicholas is an uncle to Peter. I did find postage stamps marked Fenetange and Berthelming - for whatever good that is!
Peter came to South Florida (Ft. Myers), homesteaded and married Jeannette English. Iam the granddaughter of that union and have 90 year old cousins wanting to make the trip to Alsace!

Re: Peter Fichter

I just found your message on the board. My great, great grandfather was born in Alsace Lorraine. His name was Nicholas Fichter and he was married to Sophia Bles. He was born in 1813 and died in 1874. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1854. He left the port of LaHavre and arrived in New Orleans and traveled to Cincinnati where they resided. He came with his wife Sophia and two children (my great grandfather, Nicholas, age 7 and born in 1847and Catherine, age 6). Since you mention the maiden name of Bles, I am sure there might be some connection. The only thing are the years. My great, great grandfather born in 1813 and married to a Bles and your grandfather married to a Bles born in 1852. My great grandfather Nicholas born in 1847 changed the spelling of his last name when he was in school to Feckter.

Frederick Fichter

My great grandfather was Frederick Fichter. Frederick was born in Switzerland Feb 20, 1881. He came to the U.S. as a young man to avoid induction into the Swiss Guard. His fathers name was also Frederick Fichter and his mother's name was Elizabeth. He married Margaret Johnson and the made their home in DeWitt, Nebraska where he worked on the railroad. They had three daughters:Mildred, Lavina, and Martha and a son named Claude Frederick. According to my grandmother, Martha, Claude Frederick was adopted by relatives named Johnson in Iowa after Frederick Fichter died March 9, 1917. My grandmother never saw Claude Frederick again. I would like to learn more about my great grandfathers family and possibly locate my grandmothers long lost brother.
I hope that if anyone recognizes these names that they would contact me at the above email address. Thank you.
