Re: Marlie Alfred Fidler 1898-1965

Mystery SOLVED! I have found Marlie Alfred Fidler and his second wife Wilma - both are buried at the Stonewall Memory Gardens Cemetery in Manassas, Virginia. Sometime between 1942 and 1965, Marlie and Wilma moved from Elkview, WV, to the Manassas, VA, area. Here are the links to their memorials (created by me) at Find-A-Grave.com:

Marlie Alfred Fidler:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=89...

Wilma C. Richnausky Fidler
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=89...

On Marlie's marker, it is indicated that he was born in the year 1903. We know that to be erroneous as the records I have show him born in 1898. I believe he shaved five years off his age because his second wife Wilma was born in 1910 and therefore 12 years younger than he was.

Update on Marlie. I was able to find him in the 1938 Charleston WV city directory and also in the 1940 US Census living in Elkview, WV - 15 miles NE of Charleston. He is living with his second wife Wilma and their 5-year old daughter Gloria Sue. I have sent a request to the Kanawha County Public Library in Charleston to look for Marlie in any other city directories. Since there is a Social Security death index for him for November 1965, I have asked them to scan the local obituaries for that month. Fingers crossed!

Marlie Alfred Fidler 1898-?

I'm looking for any information concerning Marlie (or Marley) Alfred Fidler, the son of Minor Lough Fidler and Iva (Ivy) Wiant Fidler. Marlie was the third of four sons born to Minor and Ivy in Spruce Run, Gilmer County, WV, on Dec. 4, 1898. He married Pluma V. Osburn but don't know the date. It appears they divorced either during the late 20's or early 30's. Marlie and Pluma had three sons - James, Lowell and Avon. Last known whereabouts of Marlie was in the Charleston, WV, area. He may have moved to Ohio, but don't know where. Any information you have on whatever happened to Marlie would be greatly appreciated.

I'm searching the Fidler family in Derbyshire, England and have William Fidler, christened 11 Jun 1820 in Dore, Drby. His parents were William Fidler and Ellen Taylor married 14 Aug 1810 in Dronfield. I have a possible christening date for William in 1788 in Chesterfield but cannot confirm this is the correct William. Is anyone working on this family who can help me out with some information about William or his parents?

My Fidler line descends from Johannes Georgen Fidler b. ca 1670 in Jurgenheim, Germany. The English line in the LDS info has a different ancestry. If the Johan in the post is from PA, I might be able to help. If from NJ, the connection may be through the English line roseyspoon refers to.

There is a very detailed history book about the Fidlers by Hazel Kendall called "Fidler Lore". This book is available as a searchable online book through the LDS Family History Library. Written before the computer age, it may contain some errors mid-book, but most of the information is valid, and a very good read for anyone doring Fidler research!
Just a thought. Many Fidlers came from Berks/Schuylkill County PA in the 1700's. There is a Johan Heinrich Fidler, b. Sept 13, 1792 that I have found little information on. He fits the time period of the Johan you referred to. Many of the Fidlers migrated west in PA. If as you find your Johan, you find there may be a connection to the one I referred to, let me know so I can tie you into the local tree.

I was wondering who your parents and great grand parents are. So you knew my grandmother Elmire and her husband Norman? It would be really interested to here about you and get to know another relation. Hope to hear back from you.

She was raised in Duck Lake, Sask. She married Norman William Branconnier. They moved to old Fort in Birch River, MB. They had 10 children.
Thomas Fidler, daughters? Rebecca and Permelia Fidler from VA to OH

I just posted this note as a response to someone, but thought I should also start a new thread in case anyone else has info. about these families -- thank you!

I have been researching Fidler, Hatfield, and Henry families that came from VA to Champaign Co. (now Logan Co.), OH in the early 1800s.

Rebecca Fidler (father Thomas Fidler) married Steward Hatfield in 1788 in Faquier Co., VA. They had Jane Hatfield b. 1790 in VA who is found in Logan Co., OH by 1810, marries John Stephenson, and their 1st child William Stephenson is born there in 1811. I think Jane's parents are in Culpepper Co., VA in 1800, then show up in the Logan Co., OH 1820 census, but I don't know if they brought Jane there or if they show up later. John Stephenson is supposedly from KY and is first in Logan Co. in 1806.

Permelia Fidler (father Thomas Fidler, but don't have proof that she is related to Rebecca above) married George Henry in VA. George and Permelia Fidler Henry move with about 8 children from Culpepper Co., VA to Belmont Co., OH in 1807 (for one year), then move on to Champaign/Logan Co., OH in 1808 and spend the winter with Isaac Zane there before buying land and settling there. The Henry children go on to marry several in Logan Co. including a Nancy Stephenson who is supposedly from KY (just like John above).

Any connection to your Fidlers?
Rachel Fidler born about 1821, married Daniel Bigbee or Bigby in Knox Co Ohio, gave birth to Sarah and Leroy Bigbee, then died about 1853. Her son Leroy was raised by Walter and Phoebe Catherine Taylor, and daughter Sarah was raised by James and Nancy Huston. Both children were raised in Fulton Co Ohio. Can someone give further information about Rachel? Cause of death, burial site, anything? Rachel was my great-great grandmother.

I am descended from John Samuel FIDLER, born 27 Jan 1843, Connorsville, Fayette, Illinois; d. 01 Jan 1927, Kingman, Kingman, Kansas ( I think he actually died in Oakland, CA, but was buried at Kingman, KS).
Anyhow, this John Samuel, son of Levi FIDLER and Mary Ann HESSLER has the same exact birthdate and same name as someone listed as his fathers brother (John Samuel FIDELR b.27 Jan 1843, Jackson, Owen, Indiana ). I beleive this to be a mistake. Does anyone have any other input on this?

Fidler Family in Canada

Matthew: No one on this list is going to be able to answer your questions without some help from you. I know you say you don't know anything, but there must be something that will help. You say you, your siblings and Father were born in Canada; do you have birth certificates? Is your Father still living and, if not, what about a death certificate? Do you know his birth date and place? Is your Mother still living or any relatives that you can talk to that might know something useful? Posting such a vague message isn't going to get you anywhere, I'm afraid, so you must try to find something that will help.

Gloria

There are a lot of Fidlers in Canada. I'm descended from Peter Fidler, born England 1769, died 1822, Ft. Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada, and Mary, a Cree Indian woman, born Canada about 1777, died 1826 Red River Settlement, Manitoba. Peter Fidler was a surveyor for the Hudson's Bay Company. Peter and Mary Fidler had 14 known children.

You need to provide some dates and places for anyone to help you. Since you don't know much, will have to work backward from your Father. Was your Mother born in Canada, also?

Gloria

Dear Amanda.

My name is Steven Fidler, currently doing research regarding the origins of Philip Fidler in Germany. I read through your comment back in 2003 where you mention his German home of Lomensheim, Germany. I have been looking for this info for over a year. Where did you find this and is it accurate.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
