Eunice Ramona Fielden
Eunice Ramona Fielden of West Sacramento, and more recently of Davis, died Oct. 3, 2003, at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento. Born July 14, 1922, in St. Joe (Saint Joe), Idaho, she was 81 years old.
She spent her childhood and early adult years in Canada. While living with her family in Comox, British Columbia, she met Joe Fielden, a Texan serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was moving supplies up the inside passage to Alaska, but he soon found reason to often stop at the small town in British Columbia.
The couple were married in Seattle in 1944 and their first son, John, was born in Comox in 1945 while Fielden was serving in the Pacific Theater. After the war, the family moved to Southern California and a couple of years later settled in West Sacramento, where their second son, Robert, was born.
Above all, Eunice enjoyed being a wife and mother. When the first Macys store opened in Sacramento, she went to work in the housewares department and stayed there for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips back to British Columbia to visit her mother and siblings. Along with her sister and mother, she made several trips to Canadian provinces with treks to see relatives in Washington and Idaho. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States.
A treasured wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe in January 2003, her parents and her brother, Wayne Howard.
She is survived by her sons, Robert of West Sacramento and John and his wife Sandra of Davis; granddaughter, Hillary Fielden of Davis; two great-grandsons, Timothy and William Bishop of Davis; sister, Bette McLellan of Port Alberni, British Columbia; brother, Brian Howard of British Columbia; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
At her wish, there will be no formal service. Memorial donations may be sent to Friends of the Arboretum at UC Davis or to the donor's favorite charity.
