Check my website at www.filbertfamily.net Are you a member of our family group? We only have unconfirmed stories that some Filberts emigrated from the Volga to Mexico and stayed there. We believe all of August I's family group moved on to the USA, however.

My grand father Martin Filbert came to the U. S. in 1908 through Ellis Island. He came from Schilling Russia. Settled in Lincoln Nebraska.

In my own family, the spelling changed from PHILBERT to FILBERT somewhere between Kentucky and Oklahoma Territory so I'm hoping to get in touch with FILBERT/PHILBERT researchers of KY, MO, KS, & OK.

My own branch of the family had left Gentry Co. by 1899, but we have had the oral tradition that one of my GGGgrandmother's sisters married a Beery. It looks like you've found a significant piece of our puzzle.

Hello George,
I have been doing research on the Filbert family and have discovered that my g g grandparents were from Alsace/Lorriane. Sometime before 1837. My g grandfather was born in Illinois, USA in 1837 so I know they were here then. I don't know there given names and I have heard through older relitives that the name my have been De Filbert. I also know that the post I read from you has been up for a couple of years, but thought I would take a shot and see if your still doing researches.

Military Records for Charles Filbert. If Charles' widow outlived him, you might locate a pension record, find the DOD for Charles, and then find an estate settlement. Perhaps your Charles Howard was listed among the heirs, if William W. Filbert preceded him in death.
Do let me know what you find, and if this is the correct William W. Filbert.
Charles Filbert's father, Benjamin Philbert is believed to have been a son of Wharton B. Philbert of VA and Clark Co., KY. This family goes back to Charles Co., MD.

August Filbert and his family emigrated from Saratov/Shilling, Russia to Mexico (where?) abt 1898 to join a brother already living there. Abt 1900, one son Alexander Filbert and his family emigrated to the United States coming through Galveston Texas and another part of the family through Texas. Both families ending up in Kansas abt 1902/1902. Are there Filbert's still living in Mexico or other countries in South America? Does your family have a connection to Filbert's from Russia?

I have a picture of a marker from the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri that I thought a FILBERT researcher might like to view, so I will post it here. If anyone knows anything about this William E. FILBERT, I'd like to know what happened to him. I am not related to him (or any Filberts). I'm trying to find out if the Nelson Harman that is also listed on this marker is the one I'm looking for.

Near as I can verify from your notes is that it is the right line of ancesters from William W. Filbert, Charles Filbert, Benjamin Philbert and Warton B. Philbert. My grandfather was Charles Howard Filbert, born in Stanberry, Gentry Co., MO on May 7, 1887. His father was William W. (birth date and place unknown)He died in 1888 in Falls City, Richardson Co., NE. He was married to my great-grandmother, Dora Rhodes who was born in Rockport, MO. They were married July 27, 1886. I would appreciate any further information anyone may have on this Filbert line. I have recently put up a web site at Roots Free Pages called Philbert Sources listing sources for my research collected on the Philbert family since 1978 whose earliest known records are in Maryland abt. 1722. I hope these sources will help others researching these families.

I am a descendent of Luke and Nancy Lane Philbert who lived in Owen Co., IN, through their son, Luke Philbert who married Hannah Bush, moved to Linn Co., MO, then on to CA in the mid 1850s. I believe our Philbert family was the earliest of the Philbert families to live in California.

I have recently discovered that many of Benjamin Philbert's descendents lived in MO from the 1830s--mostly in Gentry Co., MO, and their name was consistently spelled Filbert on records there.

I also recently found that Susan Susan Philbert, who married Abraham Goldman in KY, lived in Griggville, Pike Co., MO, and many of their descendents continued to live there.

Archibald Philbert lived in Lunenburg Co., VA and some of his descendants moved to Alabama.

I have been searching for the family of Annie C. Filbert for several years. Around 1885 she sat for a photo-portrait at the Bailey studio in Columbia, PA. Annie was then a beautiful light-haired young lady of about 20. If ever there was a photo to indicate a complete break wih the dowdy Victorians this is it. Annie's gown is delightful and she holds a glamorous fan. This spectacular photo belongs back with Annie's Filbert family. Please contact Steve at imock98@aol.com

I believe I have the exact same photograph of which you speak. There are actually two of them. They are of Annie Caroline Filbert Pfahler (Pfahler is her married name). One is of her alone and the other is with a group of girls both where taken in Columbia. There is also a third picture of her much later in life with her adult daughter Margarite or later changed to Margaret Filbert Pfhaler. I hope to hear from you soon.

I may not be able to help you after all. My GGGFather, Jacob Peter Filbert arrived with his family in NY in Sept 1836 and immediately settled in Buffalo, Erie, NY. Family legend says that the family originated in Alsace-Lorainne, but when he was naturlized he renounced his alliagence to the King of Bavaria. Is that considered Alsace-Lorainne?? They had at least 2 children in Buffalo and moved to Cook/ Lake Co's, IL in the mid 1840's. I don't have a record of a Joseph in my line. That's not to say that there isn't however.

btw: The 1870 MN US census lists my GGFather birthplace as Brooklyn, NY. He is on the ship passenger list arriving in NY, so don't necessarily believe the census.

There were Filberts that settled in Berks Co, Penn. in the 1700's. Your line may be descended from them, but of course you'll have to trace that back.

i am searching for an ancestor, joseph luther filbert, who i believe might have left his home in berlin, germany in 1848 as part of the exodus provoked by the failed attempt by the intelligensia to establish democracy in germany. he was purported to have left germany as a young man and was apparently well educated because family tradition has it that he spoke 7 languages fluently. he came to an untimely end about 1863 in missouri, murdered in ambush; i'm not sure why. i am striking out with conventional repositories on this side of the atlantic. any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. please let me know what your research fees are.

The (cabinet size) photo of Annie C. Filbert I have is of a beautiful young woman, standing, dressed in a light colored fitted top with a flowing train, a boldly patterned floral skirt, a large open fan. Her hair is very light, curly. Her face is very beautiful, a string of choker pearls tight at her neck. The painted studio background is a classic column covered with ivy off to the right. For what it is worth, I think this. Benjamin Philbert died when his children were very young. Chances are that his widow could not read or write. This is the only Filbert family descended from Wharton B. Philbert of Clark Co., KY, that I know of that spells their last name with an F.

Beery, Seth L.-died 21 Sept. 1899, crushed to death at the Railroad crossing, east of Keystone Mill. He was the son of Nicholas and Mary S. Beery and was born in Lancaster, Ohio, 15 Aug. 1831. He was a member of a family of 10 children. He married Marinda FILBERT, 23 Dec. 1851. Nine children were born and six survive-Mrs. Mary J. Kline of Dillion, Montana; George W. of Butte City, Montana; Marion N. of Alanthus Grove, Missouri; Charles W. of Butte City, Montana; Mrs. Ella A. Wilson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Miss Lizzie Beery of Stanberry, Missouri. He had been a member of the Masons for 34 years and the G.A.R. Burial in High Ridge Cemetery at Stanberry, Missouri.
