I have just read the latest query from dmorrill139 regarding her Final family members. Since my first posting in 2000, I have not heard from anyone, but I am interested in learning more of her Final family from Maine since my earliest Final was born in Penobscot, Maine in 1819.

My Final's arrived April 1, 1847 from England on the Yorkshire. They are on the 1850 census in Fairfield and Darien, CT. They then went to Erie, PA. I think they are related to some of the Final's in Michigan. I will be interested in what you have and if the German branch is related to the English branch in Buckinghanshire.

Dee Schaffer
schafferde@writeme.com

Of note as well, my grandfather's name was George Final, and his uncle was George L. Final. Do the names Isaac, Emanuel, Aaron, or John mean anything to you? I found Isaac in 1840 in England working as a farm hand, and in Connecticut, USA in 1850.

Final surname

Hi,

My maiden name was Final. Very difficult name to research, esp on search engines. As you have probably found out, you get very interesting results with Final, usually as an adjective.

I am descended from Isaac Final from England. I have found him in England in 1843 at age 14, in Connecticut as early as 1848, and in Erie, PA from 1860 until he died in 1892. I know there were other Final's earlier, even in Washington state in the early 1800 or late 1700s at a mission. Earliest I have found was in France in the1700s, I believe, but not sure.

I would be happy to share information with you. I do believe there is a relationship between the Michigan Finals and my Erie ones. There was a Lizzie Final, born in Michigan, who boarded with my Finals at one time.

Dee Schaffer
schafferde@writeme.com
