I am trying to find more information on a family from Warminster with the surname Finch - John A. married Bessie Maria Randall in 1919, and their children married between 1944 and 1951: oldest daughter married a Baggs and oldest son married an Ingram in 1944, two daughters had a double wedding in 1947, marrying a Taylor and a Rose, and the youngest son married a Creed in 1951. I have a few photos from the double wedding which have quite a lot of unidentified relatives in them.

John Henry Finch

I am looking for information on a John Henry Finch who was born about 1890 in London, England (however, family records document that he was born in 1887 in London but I cannot find any information to substantiate this); he died in 1947 in Raleigh, Essex. He married Matilda Scott in 1912 (Sep. Qtr.); the marriage was registered in Southwark, Greater London/London. Matilda was born about 1890 in Southwark, London; the daughter of Thomas and Sophia Scott.

One of their children was Cyril Leonard Linton Finch who was born on 17 October 1917 in (or near) Newbury, Birkshire/Hampshire or in Buckinghamshire (as per family records). Cyril had 3 siblings, Irene (b. 1913 in London). Frederick John (b. 1915 in London) and Iris (b. 1923 in London). The only reason I can think of why Cyril was born outside of London was possibly the family wanted to get of London during WWI.

Cyril Leonard Linton Finch is the person I am actually researching - I am trying to find some background on him but I cannot verify the family information on his father. His 90th birthday is approaching (Cyril lives in Haliburton, Ontario Canada) and the family would like to have a family tree put together and they asked me if I could find some information on his ancestors ... yet, I can't seem to even find his father, let alone any other ancestors.

Any information on either John Henry Finch or Cyril Leonard Linton Finch would be very much appreciated.

Note: Cyril married Dorothy May Vidler in 1939 and had a daughter, June Dorothy Finch who was born on 27 June 1942 in Croydon, Surrey.

Indian Finch family

My great great grandmother was Mary Ann Finch, born 4-27-1836 probably in Henry Co. TN died 1912 in Prentiss Co. MS. and is buried at Siloam Cemetery, Prentiss Co. MS. She married Alfred Lloyd Cunningham and had eleven children with him. Mary Ann's parents are John Green Finch 1811 KY to 1872 Prentiss Co. MS and Sarah Elizabeth Collier 1817 Perry Co. TN. to 1863 Prentiss Co. MS. This I know for sure. According to a cousin, Rev. Arthur G. Finch, he believes that John Green Finch's parents were William Finch ca 1781 Spartenburg Co. SC died 1850-60 Decater Co. TN and Mary G. Roberts 1792-1867/70. Here is my question, Mary Ann is obviously predominately Indian or of full Indian descent. I cannot find this in the Finch line nor can I find it in the Collier line on her mothers side - I have a family photo of her 1st cousin, mothers side and they too show the Indian heritage. Anyone know of a Finch family Indian line?

He was adopted by the Finch's at aprox 1 yr old. His Mother took him to Washington DC to turn him over to the Finch's. It is thought that the Finch's then went to Japan. The first Finches of Virginia (Sir Henry Finch, appointed to "Council" in 1630)... records begin in some detail from John Finch brought from England 1637. Researching the family of John C and Anna Mae (maiden name unknown) Finch that are listed on the1910 Federal Census as living in Smithfield, Madison County, New York and on the 1920 Federal Census as living in Onondaga Township, Onondaga County, New York. It appears as if John's occupation was that of a dairy farmer.

To the best of my knowledge, they had three children, Lillian born about 1905, Clara born Dec 2 1907 and Marian born in 1910. Marian is not listed on the 1920 Census so I assume she died between 1910 and 1920.

I know Clara as Claire and she was married to a Charles Davis Jones of Buffalo, New York.

In the hopes that anyone who sees this has a tie to this family, I would deeply appreciate any communication with you.

Davidson Families of Tennessee and Arkansas

Does anyone know of a Stephen T. DAvidson, b. 1821 in TN. He is in the 1850 Census of Cannon Co, TN. The 1860 and 1870 Census Rutherford Co, TN. In 1850 and 1860 he is shown with his wife Easter Mitchell and their children. Easter had died and Stephen remarried to Elizabeth Jane Alexander by the 1870 Census. The five youngest children shown are from this marriage. One of these, George W. Davidson is my ggrandfather. Both of Stephen's marriages are recorded in Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co, TN. His second wife E.J. (Alexander) Davidson is shown there in 1880 as a widow. She later moved to Ripley, Lauderdale Co, TN with at least the five youngest children. These all moved across the Mississippi to Craighead Co, Ark abt 1900 where my ggfather owned a large farm which I have been unable to locate on any land records. This George Davidson b,. 1869 m. Susan Pyland in Ripley, Lauderdale Co, TN. Willie Lee Davidson s/o George W. and Sue (Pyland) Davidson, b. 1894 in Ripley, Tn. married Lena Starnes in Monette, Ark in 1915. Willie, sometimes called "Dick" Davidson and Lena were my grandparents. If anyone knows this family I would love to hear from you. I have all descendent info but have been looking for parents and siblings of Stephen Davidson b. 1821 for over 30 years.

My maternal grandmother was Grace May Finch (married to Arnold Weeks Hapeman). I am interested in tracing her maternal line.
Her mother was Lotti Barker (married to Henry Clement Finch). I have been told that Lotti's father was called "Indian Doctor Barker", but I can find no information on Lotti Barker's mother than some family rumors that she was Native American, possibly Deleware or Mohican. I would appreciate any new information on this line.

Freedom Station, was born in Otis, Berkshire Co., MA, 7/8/1819, son of Joshua and Clarissa (Clark) Finch, also natives of Otis, Berkshire Cty, where they were married, and reared a family of 9 children, 3 of whom are now living. They came to Freedom Twp, this county, 6/16/1825, where Joshua Finch was an old-line Whig "stand-by," and was prominently identified with the Masonic order for
62 yrs. Here he and his wife died. Our subject, who has always made his home in this county, owns several hundred acres of land here. (His sister Celestia's marriage in 11/1826, with Lester Hall, was the
first wedding in the township.) He was married 4/8/1846, to Eunice Scovill, born in Licking Cty, OH, 7/4/1821, daughter of David Clarissa Scovill, natives respectively of MA PA, and early settlers in Johnstown, Licking Co., OH, coming 6/17/1817. I am trying to find info on the parents of John Finch born abt 1829 somewhere in Georgia. He later married Mary Elisabeth Hood. John Finch died in Arkansas abt 1873. I know all of his children but not his parents. Family rumor has it that two brothers came from England around 1800 on a ship call "The Lion" or "The Lyon" and ended up un the Carolinas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am stuck!

Our family went from Georgia to Alabama to Arkansas then to Oklahoma where my Father was born. I was born in California.

Searching for information on Matilda Finch, born Armagh, Ireland in 1823. Mother, Elizabeth, father unknown. Matilda sailed to Sydney, Australia in the early 1840's and wed Edward Murphy in 1848. They travelled to Tasmania, where Edward was stationed with the 99th Regiment as a convict guard. In the 1860's they moved to Melbourne, Victoria. Matilda died in 1900.

Lillian Castleberry Finch of Hot Springs and Little Rock went to be with her lord on October 16, 2007. She was born on May 19, 1906 in Castleberry, Alabama. She met and married her life mate, Carl Mizell Finch of Little Rock, on September 8, 1926. They enjoyed a successful career with Lillian assisting with the accounting and office management of Carl Finch Janitor Supply. They raised two sons who later joined them in the business. Lillian was a charter member of the Delta Theta Tau business sorority and was a long time member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. She was an avid horseracing fan, bridge player, and full time Granny to her grand, great and great great grandchildren. She was always there for us and her strength, caring and unconditional love will remain within our hearts for eternity.

She is predeceased by her husband Carl Finch, eldest son Bill Finch, and daughter in law Delores Gray Finch. She is survived by her youngest son Dick Finch, his wife Sylvia, grandchildren Becki Finch, Carl Finch, Katie Finch Gelacek, Julie Finch Fullerton, Lisa Finch Dearborn and Laura Finch; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

JAMES ERNEST FINCH Born 8/15/20 in Kensett, Ark. Resided in San Bernardino for 61 yrs. Passed on to eternal life 1 0/24/07. He is survived by his sister Fayrene Dickson of Grandville, IL. One son Jimmy Finch, three daughters, Vicky Earhart, Patti Cagle, and Lisa Daniels. He was a Navy vet of WWII. A retired San Berdo Fireman engineer of 33 yrs. He was a devoted grand father of 11 grand children and 17 great grand children. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at Montecito Chapet 3520 E. Washington St., Colton on Tuesday Oct. 30th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow.

Francis Michael Finch, 88, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away in his home on October 26, 2007. He was born August 7, 1919 on a homestead in Stratton, Colorado to Roy and Mary (Carrigan) Finch. He married Darlene (Merrick) Finch on October 7, 1950 in Springfield, Missouri. Francis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was loved by many.
Francis was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was very active in his faith. He was a Eucharistic Minister, was president of parish council, a Sacred Heart Angel, president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Heart, a member of the Oblates where he enjoyed the fellowship of many. He was a member of the American Legion and was involved in the St. John’s Auxiliary. Francis was also known for his love of fishing, tinkering, and teasing his grandchildren.

Francis was a veteran of World War II where he served in Panama and Germany. He received two Bronze Stars, and after receiving an Honorable Discharge Francis returned to Springfield and was employed with City Utilities where he retired after 39 years.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Geneva Bradley and Agnes Evelene Finch. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jay Sebek, and her sons, Matthew and Joshua McClanahan; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ellen Finch, and their daughters, Katherine and Hannah all of Springfield; his sister, Ruth Patterson of Madison, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial and military honors to follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday with prayer services starting at 6:30 p.m. all in the church.

I'm looking for a death date/cemetery for Frank FINCH who was born in Kent, England 6 September 1881 or 1883. It is believed he arrived in the US around 1913; we have a copy of WWI Attestation Paper for Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force, and also WWII Draft Registration Card, 1942 where he was living at 175 Hancok St. Cambridge, Mass. with a Cousin, Ellen Sales. I cannot find a record of him after that date. Any information would be appreciated.

Amos married a Elizabeth Gardner(b. 1838 in Pickaway County, Ohio d. before 1870) (some have her listed as Elizabeth Sara Gardner or Sarah Elizabeth Gardner)

Amos lived in Rock County, Wisconsin in 1850 with his mother Cemanthe or Semanthe (pronounced Samanthy) maiden name unknown.

In 1856, he is in Fayette County, Iowa with his mother Sementhe, and his 18 year old wife Elizabeth.

Children of Amos and Elizabeth are:

Robert Lee Finch, 80, Billings, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007 in Cox Hospital South.
He was born June 24, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois to George and Emma (Durbin) Finch. He lived there until moving to Nixa and Billings during the last 10 years of his life. Mr. Finch served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Helen Smith on December 26, 1945.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John; a sister, Pauline; and a granddaughter, Angie.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughters, Karen Sue Reinhart and husband Dennis, Decatur, IL, and Nancy Wells and husband Larry, Billings, MO; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Finch, Jr. and wife Charlene, and Jerry Finch and wife Gladys, of Decatur.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2007 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Monsignor Thomas Reidy, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Billings, Missouri, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut.

Visitation will be from 2 - 3 p.m. Sunday in the church with prayer service starting at 3:00 p.m.

Robert was a faithful member of the church. He was anybody’s friend and always ready to help.

Looking for Finch family of Cherokee, Choctaw descent from Southeastern Oklahoma. My Grandfather's name is Paul Finch, Sr., born September 5, 1901, died June, 1998, born Atoka, OK. Lived there all of his life. Buried at the Tushka Cemetery. He has several brothers, all deceased. One named Tom. Birth unknown, died sometime around 1990-1995 in California. Married to Tillie. She was of German descent. Married her during WWII. Also has brother Charlie. Birth and death unknown. Believe most of our relatives came from the Mississippi area. Do know we are of Scottish descent also. Most of us have red hair and brown eyes. The younger generations are all of more Cherokee descent with black hair and black eyes. My grandfather's mom was half Cherokee. Do not know her name or my great grandfather's name. PLEASE HELP. Don't want my kids to grow up not knowing who we are. Also need tips on research. The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Courtney D. Finch, 27, of Leavenworth, Kan., died July 24 in Qayyarah, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 714th Maintenance Company, Kansas Army National Guard, Topeka, Kan.

The incident is under investigation.

William or Wiliam H Finch Great Grandfather

Looking for info on William Finch, b. 11-6-1866 place unknown, d. 6-26-1894 Cleveland Co., OK.. He married Olive Ann Weaver, and they had two sons -- John Martin b. 1891,Durant,OK, d. 1976 Norman, Cleveland Co., OK., and Ernest Fredrick, b. 12-15-1893 Noble, Cleveland Co., d. 1-3-1918, Cleveland Co., OK..

I have traced Olive (Ollie)Weaver to Texas, Collin County, in the 1880 census. She was 8 daughter of Nelson and Ruth Gleuck, Weaver, Hobaugh. I cannot find either she or William Finch after that. As I understand it the 1890 census is very slim. They are not listed in 1890. Sometime between 1880 and 1896 they married, since that is when William died. Since Martin was born in 1891 and Ernest in 1893, they were probably married sometime in 1890 or 1891. Since the information on Martin is more plentiful, he was stated as born in Durant. My father, Ernest's son, told me that they lived in Durant and that William had several brothers. Names that come from his memory were John, Sandy, Doc??? They visited us on the farm in Washington, Ok, and there were two of them who came for the visit. I can also remember going to the Finch family reunion in Sulphur, Oklahoma. I remember swimming in the pool near the National park and he sulphur springs.

Ollie married George Butler, Noble. Martin and Ernest were raised by Geoge and Ollie. George, Ollie, Ernest and William are all buried at Fairview McGuire cemetery outside of Noble.

Ernest, my Grandfather, died in 1918, young like his father, and there is very little information about either he or William. Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

In June, 1875, he became identified with the journal the affairs of which he at present directs, rising from a nominal position by the sheer force of industry and worth.

I am looking for the FINCH family. but so far have found very little information on them. what I have so far is that my ggrandfather was Charles Finch who was married twice first wife unknown, second wife was Ethel possibly Flint. There were 11 children in the family, Edward, born 1904 this is my grandfather, Raymond, Elmore, Homer, Howard, Doris, Ellis, Herbert born1896, Nellie born Jan, 1892, Mary, and Clair/clare. They had a ranch in South Dakota, they also lived in Iowa, nebraska and wyoming. My great-grandfather and his son Raymond both disappeared sometime after 1931,It is believed that they were killed by my ggrandfathers brothers because they stole some horses. I can not locate any information on these finches. My grandfather was Edward Finch born in 1904, he married Fanny Millward Finch born Sept 1908, they had 5 children, Edward Jr, Jerry died as a baby, Charles H Finch my father, Arthur Finch born 1933 died 1992, Leroy born 1941 or 1942. If anyone has any information on these finches I would really appreciate it. My father is the only relative that I know since they were not a real close family and my grandparents have both passed away.

I am doing research on Rev. John Finch (son of Thomas and Mary Finch; b.in Yorkshire,England, d. in Alva, Oklahoma), and his wife Alice Hewitson (daughter of Anthony Hewitson and Alice Moore; b. in Lancaster, England, d. in Wichita Falls, Texas). In going through a box of pictures for this family, a picture was found of a very distinguished-looking man, Rev. F. Finch, who preached at St. Paul's Church in Deptford, England (this notation was on the back of the photograph). I feel he was related to John in some way, otherwise, the picture would not be in the family's possession. I'm just trying to find out if anyone knows of a "F. Finch", probably born in the late 1790s/early 1800s, probably in England.
