I am searching for a John B. Findley who was to have been born in Westmoreland County, Pa. about 1835. I have not been able to find out who his parents were of or if he had any siblings. He was in the Civil War and married Lydia Wagner of Somerset County in 1859. Do you know anything about this John B.? Do you know the names of any of the children of James?

"My" Wm Elbert was born on May 16, 1846 & died on May 16, 1915. He & his wife, Eliza Ann Basemore Findley, had a total of 14 children. Their son James Marion was my g-grandfather. One of my g-grandfather's younger brother's ws named William Stephen Finley.

Wm Stephen (Apr 19, 1876-1938) & his wife Rhoda E McCullough Finley had a total of 11 children. The two eldest children were Wm Emmit (1899-??) & Claude Hartlen Sr (Jan 14, 1901-Aug 23, 1976). Claude Hartlen Sr died in Augusta, GA.

Wm Elbert, Wm Stephen & my g-granfather James Marion are but 3 of the many family members buried in the the William Elbert Findley Family Cemetary in the Lyons/Vidalia/Oak Park area of southern Georgia. It's one of those that is hidden so far back in the woods, if you don't know how to get there, someone had better take you the first time you go or you'll never find it. (I've got pictures of all their headstones, but they are all on my laptop at home.)

Hope some of this helps! Let me know if we need to compare any other names/dates.

I have an "Elbert William Findley" who is the brother of my great grandfather, Claude Marion Findley, Sr. Their father was Ellie Findley. Is this the same William Elber in your line? Thanks so much!

I am Jeremy Findley. I am looking for the father of my great grandfather Thomas Alan Findley b. 1892; d. 1978 in Corinth, Mississippi. I have been told that my grandfather James Leslie Findley b. 1921; d. 1995 was born at Mud Creek. I believe this is in McNairy county, Tennessee near Adamsville. Can anyone help me find the father of Thomas Findley. I was told his name is William, but I can find no proof to corroborate this. Thank you to whomever can offer assistance. I have inferred that he was most likely born between 1850 and 1877.

line so far
Jeremy Shane Findley
|_ James Steven Findley
|_ James Leslie Findley
|_Thomas Alan Findley
|_??(William Findley)??

Jody,
I have been researching the 1847 Elias Buell wagon train to Oregon that Daniel and Isabelle Putman were on. Other than the Finley connection, I wondered how the Putman family wound up with the Buell group. Those who went to Oregon left law and courts behind, and their security depended on knowing who they traveled with.
Isabelle was the aunt of James Lindsay Findley, who married Caroline Buell, daughter of Elias, in Missouri, shortly before the train left.
There were connections after the wagon train got to Oregon. Daniel's son Robert married Anna McKune, daughter of William and Sarah Ann (Carey) McKune. Sarah Ann Carey was on the 1847 train with her parents John and Ruth (Odell) Carey.
Daniel's daughter Francis Brown Putman married Thomas Edgar Conner, son of Job Conner of the 1847 train.
Considering that travel was difficult in pioneer Oregon, without a good road network with bridges, it should be noted that the families located in Buell, Sheridan, Dayton and Amity kept in touch and that marriages followed. This suggests that there were no major feuds on the road.
Do you have any other information related to the 1847 trip? I am not clear exactly where and when Isabelle died. I have seen October 30, 1847 in Oregon, but I understood that the party did not reach Ft. Vancouver until November 15, so it suggests she died on the trip.

I just typed in my grandfather’s name on google to try and find his son that none of us know of. I believe that your father may be who I am looking for and I am sorry I did not see this post sooner. My grandfather spent some years in Fairbanks in the Air Force. Your uncle is James Findley. He lived in Aiken, SC before his passing and my grandfather, Claude passed away last spring. I believe you and I would be cousins and I almost can’t believe that I have found this information so quickly. I hope this email still works and you are able to write me back. I look forward to hearing from you!!!

You know, after thinking about this further in the night, here is how your family tree looks...

Claude Marion Findley, Sr. married to Gertrude Bozeman
sons Claude Marion Findley, Jr. & James Findley

Claude Marion Findley, Jr. married Marjorie Bell Dragoo
sons Ronald George Findley (my father), Steven Findley, and Richard Findley. These are your father's brothers and your uncles. You and I are first cousins.

I just found out that your father called my father (Ron) when my parents were still married. They were in their early 20's. We are all trying to find your father and his family and I hope, hope, hope to hear from you soon!

My email can be fickle about who it lets in my inbox so please also copy to email butikofer_family@ideafamilies.org

Look forward to your reply.

I show him
married to an Elizabeth Satterfield(no documentation),. I found him on the
1850 census as a Pendley and in the 1860 census in Pickens County.
Re: Looking for Claude Findley Sr. or Jr.

I've actually got 5 James Findley's of one permutation or another in my family tree, so I'm not exactly sure which one you are refering to. (James Marion Findley was my g-grandfather.) I will, however, be more than happy to share whatever info I may have if you can help me out with some dates or additional info. What exactly is your grandfather's name? The info I've got on Claude H Findley/Finley Jr came via a copy of his obit that another distant cousin sent me. I say Findley/Finley because Claude Jr's grandfather, William Stephen Findley, is shown on the 1920 Metter, GA census as "Findley". On the 1930 Walnut Grove, SC census, he is shown as "Finley". And yes, folks are 100% certain that these are the same person. One of William's grandson's came to our family reunion for the first time last fall - he's the one that sent me a copy of Claude Jr's obit. James Marion Findley & William Stephen Finley were brothers - their father was William Elbert Findley.

Does any of this sound vaguely familiar to you, or fit with anything that you've already found? Please be sure to let me know. Like I said, if it turns out that we are long, lost cousins, I will be happy to share whatever else I may have - can't wait to hear from you!

Your Moses Fendley has the same birth and death dates as well the same place of birth and death as my Moses Fendley. I believe them to be one and the same. The line I am researching is thru another son of Moses, the son being Elisha Findley/Fendley. Elisha had a daur named Elizabeth Eveline Fendley and thats where my line comes thru. I have nothing on Moses except the same dates and places you mention. You are thru one son of Moses and we are thru another son but we can work together to find more info.
