COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Leo L. Finke, 86, of rural Columbus Junction, died Monday, November 24, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Service at the United Presbyterian Church, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Faye Fedlam will officiate. Casketbearers will be Cory Finke, Randy Pugh, Jason Utter, Travis Finke, Mitchel Finke and Chase Finke. Honorary casketbearers will be Melissa McKean, Amy Unger, Jennifer Scorpil, Traci Mueller and Ann Utter. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Visitation at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.

Leo was born on September 24, 1922, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of William “W. E.” and Mary Louisa Vaughn Finke. On December 16, 1945, he was united in marriage to Shirley Dilsaver in Cedar Rapids.

He graduated from Wyman High School.

He served as a 1st Lieutenant, flying a B-24 for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He farmed all of his life.

He was a member of the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100, the Shellbark Club and the Presbyterian Church, serving as a former deacon. He enjoyed walking through the timber and fishing in his pond. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and going to Florida in the winter.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley Finke of Columbus Junction; his children, Wayne Finke and wife, Sue, of Columbus Junction, Roger Finke of Riverside, Cheryl Finke of Atlanta, Georgia, Sonya Pugh and husband, Doug, of Columbus Junction, Nance Utter and husband, Bob, of Columbus Junction and William 'Lennie' Finke and wife, Darla, of Columbus Junction; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ione Sherer of Kirksville, Missouri, and Jane Kaczinski and husband, Max, of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris, Mary and Evelyn; and two grandchildren, Carrie and J.D.
