Researching my gt. gt. grandfather John Finley born 1814 in Droghmore Co. Wicklow. 1861 Census shows him living in Derbshire with Hannah Finley[ Sewell] He was Chelsea pensioner and served with the 87th. Foot regiment between 1833 and 1853.They had a son called William Henry born 1863 in Brampton Derbyshire. I am trying to find out about his roots in Ireland and where his army duties may have led him between 1833-53

I am looking for information on John Miller who married Margaret Finley. He was from Ohio Co, VA and died there during the 1830's. He was born about 1790.

John and Margaret (Finley) Miller had 3 children:
Samuel Finley Miller (1834-1834)
Mary Eleanor Miller (1835-1920) m. Thomas Maxwell
Margaret Ann Miller (1836-1908) m. James Wishart

In a letter than I have from Rev. John Miller Wishart, D.D. (who did a great amount of research on the Finley family) dated 1936 talks about the Maxwell family that has 'Grandmother Miller's Bible'. I would like to find the Bible and their descendants.

I have a large amount of information on the Finley and the Wishart families, but nothing about John Miller.

Is anyone able to help me with this? I collect all kinds of information. Birth, marriage, death, deeds, Bible records, newspapers, anything.

Trying to find identity of a woman in an undated wedding photo. Photo taken by "Bates" Norfolk, Ne., I'm guessing about 1900. Hand notation on picture says Buford Finley so I assume her surname is Buford and groom name is Finley. Could be the other way around. I have Finleys in my family but can't make a connection.

I dont know if any of you out there are following this line of finleys but I have it traced back to Scotland in the 1600. My Grandpa was James Mathers Finley of Sargent and he married Louise Merle Vallery Gandy in 1904 and my mother Grace Mildred Finley was born in 1905 she was their only child. My Grandmother had another daughter Marie Gandy Finley Boyer Strait. There was some sort of falling out and I know very little about Marie's family. I know she had a son Charles Boyer, daughter Louise and daughter Mildred. They were living in Iowa last I knew. some may have passed away by now. I cant seem to find anything and further than James Allen who would have been born around 1806. His son George was born about 1851. I dont know if James had other children besides George. This is about all I know. George Allen married Sarah Hoke daughter of Samuel Hoke, they had my grandfather Edward Louis Allen, they divorced and she married John Moore and they came to Nebraska and brought my grandfather with them. If anyone could help me with the Allens I would reall appreciate it.

Issac Finley, Scott County MO

Greetings, I am looking for information regarding an Isaac Finley, son of Richard Finley, who was born abt. 1843 and lived in Scott County MO. Specifically, I am interested in information regarding his marriage to a Sarah Arminda Greig about 1864. Rootsweb has a database which mentions this marriage. I have a Sarah Arminda Grigg in my database; she was born in Georgia and then moved to Alabama and was last seen in the 1930 Scott County census. Her parents and some siblings lived in Scott County as well by 1870. One of her brothers, Francis Asberry Grigg(s), had a daughter named Althea. She is mentioned in the marriage records of Scott County (Altha Griggs) as marrying an Albert Evans; and the records state that her Uncle I.N. Finley was present at the wedding. If any of you folks have any information about this Isaac Finley and Sarah Arminda Greig, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me.
I am looking for information on the family of Ethel M. Finley Perkins. I found her in Coles Co., Illinois in the 1930 census with daughter Emma Miller, and granddaughter Roberta. I recently found a death certificate which lists her as born 6 Feb. 1885 in Eureka Springs. Father was listed as McCallister and mother as Anna Finley. The informant was listed as Roy Miller. She died in St. Louis Missouri on 11 Sep 1952. I have many childhood pictures of her, her mother and sisters, that I would like to share with her family members. Thank you, Pam
Hi All,

I am searching for the parents and siblings of William Ford Finley born 12 Apr 1871 in Rondout or Rondort New York. His parent's were John Finley and Sarah Jane Ford. His wife was Sarah Catherine O'Brien born 8 Oct 1875 in Benniwaters, New York. I haven't been able to find anything else on his parents at this time and its turning into a real brick wall. I would appreciate any and all help. Thank You, Ann

I am looking for information on my great grandfather and grandmother. I think my great grandfather (Hairston Finley) was born in Patrick County, VA and lived in North Carolina. He had a daughter, my grandmother (Marion Finley) who married my grandfather (William Penn). They were married in June 1906 and lived in Patrick County, VA. They had 3 kids Harry, Marion and James. The 1920 Census has them listed as.....
William Pann
Harry
Marion
Henley
Sarah Fenley which is my grandmother's Aunt. She helped with the kids when my grandmother passed away. This comes from word of mouth. How true don't know.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find out when and where Kelly Finley died. He was born June 9, 1885, according to his draft registration (which isn't very clear), though I have also seen 1886 as his year of birth. He is in the 1920 census in Cambridge Township, his mother is living with him, she is listed as Saunde according to the Ancestry transcription, though it looks like Lavada to me. I think it is supposed to be Nevada. He is also listed in the city directory in 1922. I can't find him after that. I have checked the 1930 census and the Ohio Death Index on Ancestry Library Edition.

William O. Finley descendants, Guernsey County, Ohio

William O. Finley from Pennsylvania and his wife Rebecca Wendell were early settlers in Beaver Twp., Guernsey (now Noble) County, Ohio. According to Wolfe's "History of Guernsey County", William was the father of eleven children, and the original town of Williamsburg (now Batesville, Ohio) was named for him, since it was founded on his property. I'm a Wendell descendant and would love to discover who those eleven children were, and learn about their descendants. I have lots of Wendell genealogy to share.

Arthur J. Middleton/KY/Daughter

Hello,

I'm looking for information on Arthur J. Middelton's daughter. He was Born in 1908 (LaRue Co.) and died 1965 in Louisville, KY.

His parents were Earl and Shirley Middleton. Siblings were Mary, Chester, and Maude.

I am trying to find his first wife's family and daughter. Because of circumstances out of anyone's control, his wife's illness kept him from being with his daughter. I believe his wife's family raised the daughter.

Eventually, laws changed in KY and he was able to divorce his 1st wife and marry my aunt. Catherine (Katy Baron) Middleton.

Art died 1 yr. after their marriage and my aunt moved back to IL.

Art's daughter came to visit my aunt in IL and received a poor reception. When my aunt died, we kept some of Art's personal things. We have recently found a niece and will probably give them to her if we can not find the daughter.

I have seen an Arthur Middelton on some websites with Osley, Middelton etc. But, the emails have come back when I sent them.

Can anyone help me find his daughter.
Thank you.

William J. (also known as Hartel) Couch married abt. 1900 - Ohio or Indiana. My information only has name Martha and others have her listed as Miss. Finley. William Couch owned a store simply named The Hardware Store in Rockford, Ohio in 1912. At that period of time he had married Martha and has a son Earl Couch. Per Death Certificate William Couch died Sept 21, 1927 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. The Widow Martha Couch married later (no date know) to Luther Brooks. Other associated names to Couch are Downey, Nunemaker and Hollowell. Cities and States are Rockford - New Paris - Lima and Preble County, OHIO // Elwood - Anderson - West Alexandria - Mount Etna - Warren County, INDIANA. Unfortunately I have no other Finley names and no other dates. Just this jumbled information - please contact me if any of these names connect with you.
I am finding conflicting information on the internet about who Catherine Finley's mother is. She was born in 1815 in Madison County Illinois. Married David L Melton 22 Jan 1833 in Greene County Illinois. She passed away 14 Dec 1883 in Collin County Te><as and is buried in the Rowlett Cemetary in Collin County. Some of the infomation I ran across says her mother was Mary Little, other says her mother was Charlotta Jackson. Her father is Thomas Finley born 13 Mar 1790 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, died 10 Aug 1859 in Collin County, buried in Rowlett Cem in Collin County. Does anyone know who her mother is? Any information or clues in the right direction will be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Kate Childers

Finley 1840 Census index is wrong

Ancestry's census indexes for 1840 are wrong for Gasconade & Greene Counties in Missouri. I haven't checked all names but John & James Finley are listed as being in Greene Co. They are NOT. They are in Gasconade Co., MO. Isaac Finley is listed as being in Gasconade Co., he is actually in Greene Co. MO. I believe the entire counties are wrong. I have repeatedly, for at least two years, asked them to correct this, but they don't. Don't trust any of Ancestry's indexes until you verify with a second source. I have found MANY mistakes like this. The indexes are hit and miss. Hope this saves someone a bunch of headaches.

Rev. James B. Finley

Hello, Nancy ...

And thanks for your email reminder about this post. Rev. James Bradley Finley was the fourth great grandfather of my sister, Gay Ellen Egetter Hanlon and me.

The lineage travels mostly through maternal lines, and thus the surname is not constant. But here is the basic outline:

James Bradley Finley and Hanna Martha Strain ...

Their daughter, Eliza Hughey Finley and John Carrington Brooke ...

Their son, William McKendree Brooke and Ellen Elizabeth Austin Hoffman ...

Their daughter, Naomi Clifford Brooke and George Henry Pinney ...

Their daughter, Ellen Brooke Pinney and Stillman Augustus Pease ...

Their daughter (our mother) Grace Clifford Pease and (our father) Charles Joseph Egetter.

To all who wish more detail on these ancestors, we would be happy to share the private family record (and pictures) with all. It is a considerable body of information.

And if there are no other claimants to Rev. Finley's autobiography, we would be pleased to receive it from you.

Just let me know! Thanks ...

Carl Jay Egetter
Marietta, GA

Linda,
I am Bob Finley and have been looking for the parents of my ggg grand farther James Finley.Had several good leads but never could confirm. Then one day not too long ago a new email friend who is researching the same name sent me data outlining my ancestors back to Robert and Catherine Wilkes Finley. they had several children two of which was my James and his brother John. Thru a power of attorney made in Madison, Ky. Dr Johnson ( researcher for some 30 years of the Finleys of N.C. and Ga. proves that John Finley is the farther of Robert Wilkes Finley. Robert Wilkes Finley is the farther of Rev. James Bradley Finley.
I have lots of data about Robert & James Bradley including James autobiography and Dr J Wayne Johnson book titled Finley Family History.
According to Dr. Johnson I am in James Bradley Finley's line. Thanks,
Bob
