I am researching Joseph Shepherd Finn , born 1919, who was Barbara Finn Woodward's brother. He died in 1982 in Los Angeles CA. Barbara was the informant on the death certificate. According to the certificate, he was "never married".
I am looking for relatives of Joseph, his brother James Finn, or decendants of his father Joseph M. Finn (also shown as M. Joseph Finn ) who died in Manchester MA in 1961.
According to the Massachusetts Town and Vital Records, M. Joseph Finn was born in 1887 County Cork Ireland. Wife Helen M. Murphy born about 1893 in Ireland.
Ron

Yes, I found Donald's obit a few years ago, however i have not been able to make contact with the correct children named. I do have a new lead and it sounds promising :) Barbara was born in Newton and not Washington as the one obituary implies.
Thank you for your help
Danielle

Hi Danielle -- thanks for the reply. Just out of curiosity (or, in other words, a strong tendency to snoop around which infects a lot of us genealogists!), I did a web search for this family and found the obituary of Barbara's husband, Donald, which was published in the Kitsap Sun in Washington state in March 1998. It's online here: http://web.kitsapsun.com/local/obits/march98.html although access to the website requires registration (which is free).

Were you aware of this one?

The obit has some biographical info about Mr. WOODWARD and mentions/names one son and two daughters as well as a brother and sister and where they were living at the time.

It also mentions that Barbara FINN was born in 1924 in Seattle and that they married in August 1948 in Newton which I assume is Washington state but it does not specify. There are a few other family details in there as well.

The reason I'm paraphrasing instead of posting the whole obit is that there is a copyright notice on the website and I don't want to violate that.

Hope this helps. As I said, I have no connection to this family. Just curious, that's all! Andrea

hi Andrea,
I am not sure which newspapers it was printed in. I couldn't find a reference to one. I found the obituary by coincidence while searching for an article on the Boston Globe website. It had a link to search nationwide obituaries on Legacy.com. I am also assuming that she died in Seattle Washington. I do know her husband died in 1998 in Kennewick Wa. I have been looking for this family for a few years and am trying to make contact with them. If I find out more details later I will definitly post an update. Hope this helps someone else :)
Danielle

Hello Danielle -- thanks for posting this info but I notice it does not include a place of death. After reading the details, I assumed Mrs. WOODWARD died in Seattle since this is where her funeral took place but maybe this is a wrong assumption. Can you please reply with confirmation of the place of death?

Also, I notice that this obit was originally published in print. It may be helpful for others to know what newspaper this was.

I have no connection to this family at all. I am merely trying to clarify the info. John Finn (1792-1849) settled in New South Wales, but I cannot remember if any of his descendants settled in Victoria.
Thomas Finn, Married to Johanna Fitzgerald is the 3rd great grandfather of my husband (I am researching his tree on his behalf due to his lack of time). I know the Mahony's/Finns came from County Limerick. So far what evidence points to them being from Kilbehenny, a parish, in the barony of Costlea, but has yet to be confirmed. Have you come across any information since you posted?
Ber

I am the GGGranddaughter of John Mahony and Johannah Fitzgerald, Johannah then married Thomas Finn, whose son Thomas came to Australia along with his stepbrother Jeremiah Mahony. We think Thomas was born about 1837. Thomas married Mary Hanrahan He has many descendants in Colac Victori Australia.
Clare Warn nee Mahony

Bob,
My father-in-law, Michael G. Finn was born July 3, 1907 in
Castlegregory, Co. Kerry. His parents were Johanna Fitzgerald and Thomas Finn, a shoemaker. He had brothers
Thomas and Patrick who raised their families in England.
His sister Mary immigrated to NY as did Michael. They had
a brother Eugene who died in infancy. He had an Aunt Julia
Finn and an Uncle Patrick Finn. Believe there are Lenahans
and O'Sheas on their family tree. Anything sound familiar?
Finns of Bucks Co., PA

Agnes Finn

I am looking for any information on Agnes Finn. We just found our father's birth certificate. Agnes had a son born at a hospital in Dorchester Ma. on April 11, 1915. He was named Malchus Finn and was bapitized on April 17, by a Rev. George D Butler. We know that he was given up for adoption right after he was two. If anyone has any information, we would love to know more about our father's ancestors. Our dad had 4 children and our mother was also adopted. We have just in the past couple of years found her family. Thanks in advance for any help. Having adopted 8 children myself, I know how important roots are to kids. Dale

Hello,

I just tripped over the site. You can see from the surname a common interest. My grandad was John Finn, I think he was brother to Thomas, born in Batley and regular attenders of Mass at St Mary's of the Angels. I believe Thomas went to India to run a textile mill. I also think that he travelled and worked in New Zealand and was pretty successful. He was my Dad, Terence's uncle.

I think they returned to live in the midlands somewhere (rumour has it in a grand house on National Trust land - Worcestershire I think).

I met him once at my Grandad's funeral in 1979.

Hi,
Sorry I haven't checked in a couple of months! Thank you for delving into this tangle. I have found 19 people given as children of John or "Jhon" Page, all christened in Chilham, Kent. Given the dates, I had assumed the older ones must be children of the elder John Page and Elizabeth Maxted (m.1585, the only John Page marriage I could find in the time frame). Similarly, I assumed the younger ones were probably the children of the younger John (b.1587/88). Where the separation is, I'm not sure -- probably around 1607/08, when another John is born, and Elizabeth and Robert Page are christened within 2 months of each other (Robert being elder John's last child, Elizabeth being younger John's first child)? Of course, there is also a good chance that there may have been more than one John Page in each generation.

John Page -- ch.1 Jan 1588
Anne Page -- ch.14 Jun 1590
Thomas Page -- ch.9 Jul 1592
Henrye Page -- b. or ch. 1 Apr 1594, d. or bur. 13 Jul 1594 (same as: Henry Page -- ch.1 May 1594; unknown which date is correct)
William Page -- ch.30 Jan 1598
Mary Page -- ch.14 Jan 1599
Moses Page -- ch.1 Jun 1600, bur.16 Mar 1602
Edmond Page -- ch.24 May 1601
Mathewe Page -- ch.24 or 29 Apr 1603
Sara Page -- ch.27 Aug 1604
Francis Page -- ch.17 Mar 1605
Jhon [sic] Page -- ch.24 Mar 1607
Elizabeth Page -- ch.24 Apr 1608
Robert Page -- ch.26 Jun 1608
Margaret Page -- ch.16 Sep 1610
Susan Page -- ch.19 Feb 1615
Robert Page -- ch.14 Mar 1619
Ann Page -- ch.12 Aug 1621
Mildred Page -- ch.21 Nov 1624

You're right, it is very hazy. I am very interested in your "list of spouses" for Elizabeth Maxted. Who are they, and how did you find them?

Again, sorry for taking so long to reply. Feel free to email directly if you want.
Jim Baker+
wesslingbaker@gmail.com

Thomas Finn & Joan Phillips family of Yorkshire

I'm looking for details of my in-laws: Joan PHILLIPS married Thomas FINN in Batley, Yorkshire. Shortly afterwards they moved to Bangalore, India where 3 children were born: Timothy, Katherine and Jane. They came home some 5-6 years later.
Joan had sisters Sheilah, Cissie (may not be her given name) and brother Tom. Other than that, I have no information. Though Yorkshire born, they were proud of their Irish Catholic ancestry. If anyone can help, would be deeply grateful.

William Finn Townland of Kilbarry Parish of Dunmanway

I have been able to research my Finn family back to the townland of Kilbarry, Parish of Dunmanway, County Cork Ireland. I have been able to find the baptismal records for 5 of William & Honora (Cotter) Finn's children from St Patrick's between 1841 & 1851. Any additional information on the Finn's or Cotter's would be appreciated. The family emigrated to the USA in September of 1852 eventually settling in the Detroit (Hamtramck) Michigan area.

Re: George Finn

On William Finn's original Baptism papers, both William and George are listed as Finne. In the translation, when the records were transcribed, it changes to Finnis ... All the dates match our George and William, and it is from the Chilham Parish. This may be how things have gotten a little hazy. I have tried adding Elizabeth Maxted to my tree to see if it opened any doors. She is listed as being married to umpteen different Johns, all with different surnames. The John Page on her list of spouses does not have a son John with Elizabeth...which of course may mean nothing as she could have been married previously, had a son John and he took the name Page.

Re: George Finn

Hello all,
I don't think the ancestry of George Finn and his wife Ann Page is unreadable. I have been searching through the American website, www.familysearch.org (the Mormon church), which includes a record for the birth of George Fynne, baptised in 1614 in Egerton, Kent, a son of Thomas Fynne. I have been trying to ascertain whether this Egerton George is the same as our Chilham George. Also, Ann Page was almost certainly the daughter of John Page of Chilham, baptised in 1621. John Page, in turn, was probably the son (baptised in Chilham 1587) of John Page, Sr. and Elizabeth Maxted. If anyone wants to contact me about this family, my email is
wesslingbaker@gmail.com

I am a descendant of George and Ann's son John Finn, who married Ann Osmire. Their son John and their daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Hoare are both my ancestors.

Jim Baker+
