Hey Bill. Have you had any luck finding out where your gr-grandmother(Ada) is buried? I have been in touch with family members of her brother (William)'s. Hope to find out where in Pa. they are buried. William is in Flushing, Queens but his wife and sons and daughter aren't.

I know there were a lot of Adas' in the family. Your gr-grandmother Ada(Finney)Mulhern was married to a Sylvester Franklin sometime after 1920. I found all this out in the past few weeks. She was his 3rd wife. His first died in childbirth and the second must have died during the epidemic of 1918. In the 1930 census it shows them living on Long Island with his 2 sons.
Ada's daughter Ada(Alice's sister)had also been married twice. I can't remember both names but one I'm pretty sure of is, Hochhauser. I think I got the spelling right. When my mom was small, she remembered them living on Sutton Street in Greenpoint. She always called you aunt Ada and your cousin Ada, the young one and the old one. She never knew your gr-grandmother. My mom had been born in 1925, so she was around young Ada's age.

I know it sounds confusing, but it takes awhile to sink in.
I do keep in contact with your Aunt Doreen from time to time. There were a lot of people named Ada in the family. My Aunt Ada (Coker) was the last one that I know of. She was my Dad's older Sister (my Grandmother's daughter) and we still see each other every few years. My Grandmother's maiden name was Mulhern and her Mother was Ada (Finney) Mulhern. Her Mother's name was Pamelia.

I found out that Ada (Finney) Mulhern passed away in 1950, but I'm not sure where she was buried. Still checking on that. I never knew she married a man named Franklin. Anyway, I'll get back to you soon when I find out more info.

Bill

Your Aunt Ada is the one my mom always mentioned when we talked family. She remembered her living on Sutton Street in Greenpoint. Another person my mom always mentioned was Madeline Spininger. She was the daughter of Madeline Mulhern. They were all born around the same time so they grew up together. My mom would have been 84 this year.

I know after Mulhern died, she married a man named Franklin. Only found this out recently. Would you have any idea, since she is your gr-grandmother? Did your grandmother ever mention this?

Hi,

My Grandmother's maiden name was Alice Catherine Mulhern. Her Father's name was William J. Mulhern. He married Ada Finney in Brooklyn New York. I believe William's Father's name was Robert Mulhern and his Mother's name was Margaret Cantwell. Ada's Father's name was William Finney and her Mother's name was (I believe) Pamela Smith. I'm not completely positive, but I believe William's Father's name was Samuel Finney. Not sure if these are the ones you're looking for or not.

Bill Wieber

Re: Death of Mrs. Nannie Finney in Egypt

There was a Finney family mentioned in newspapers in the Ohio County I am researching (Tuscarawas) and I remember reading about a Finney family that went to Egypt for missionary work. This is most likely, just a guess, that this family was connected to Reverend Thomas M. Finney who was the head of the Coshocton Presbetery and preached in Coshocton and Tuscarawas Counties and is descended from Thomas McKean. Thomas McKean, signer of Dec. of Independence Mothers name was Letitia Finney. This could the Finney line you seek. I hope this helps.

I hope this helps.

Gerald Finney
Fresno, California
Re: Finney/Phinney/Ohio

Greetings, First off make sure you tell your parents you are exchanging messages with an adult and make sure they read all of the messages you send or receive.

I do not think we are related and I do not think that my Isaac is your Hugh Finney's brother. I have been researching Finney families, mostly those from Ohio, for over 15 years and I had never heard of a Hugh Finney. I did do some checking for you in my records.

There was a John Finney who married a Mary Wise. John's real name was actually Johnson A. Finney and he was born on April 25 1852. My Isaac was already about 22 years old when John was born so there is no way that my Isaac could be in your Hugh Finney's brother. He may have had a brother named Isaac but it wasnt from my line of Finneys.

My records show that Johnson A. Finney was born in Scioto County Ohio (my Finney's were in Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties). Johnson Finney married a lady named Mary Ann Wise. You can find Johnson Finney in the 1870 Census in Ohio with his paretns and siblings. Johnson Finney's parents were Junious (possibly mispelled and should be Julious) and Maria Finney. Johnson Finney's siblings were Buela, Annis, and Amanda. Junious is showing to be age 63 in 1870 meaning he would have been born about 1807. This Finney family is living in Bloom Township, Scioto County Ohio in 1870.

In 1880 Johnson Finney and his wife Mary Wise have moved and are living in Wellston, Jackson County, Ohio. There is a daughter named Laura M. Finney age 3 and Allen H. Finney age 1.

I have provided you with a lot of information on your line of Finney's. Please share this information with your parents. Thank you.

Greetings. Can you please tell me what brought you to the conclusion that Hugh and Isaac are brothers? I have been researching Isaac for several years and could never find his parents or any siblings. I sent you a message here on ancestry with my email address and my phone number. I am very interested in comparing notes with you.

I do believe that my great-granfather, Hugh Finney, was Isaac's brother. Was Isaac's father John Finney (half cherokee) who married Mary Wise and died right after the 9th son was born, forcing Mary to move to Michigan and have her sons go into Clare logging?

Her parents were John FINNEY (born about 1820 in Stoke, Staffordshire) and Sarah (born about 1825 in Newcastle, Staffordshire) On the 1871 census this family was camping in Chorley, Cheshire.

Clara Jane FINNEY married my G Uncle William Wheatley CALLTON in 1884 in Newcastle, Staffordshire.
Thomas J Finney's death certificate available in the GA Digital Vault has his father listed as Jno. Finney born in Ireland and the mother as Arrimnta Miller. The 1880 census also shows the same parents (John and Array E.) with children Catherine, John A and Thomas J. They were listed as being in Baldwin County.

I know we have talked before but can not find where I put your link showing Thomas's father as William. Please remind me.

If you are still researching, I do have some information on William O. Finney, b. 26 Dec 1854. His father was Thomas Jefferson Finney, son of Benjamin and Sarah Finney, both buried in the Finney Cemetery, Jones Co, Georgia. I have more information on Mary M. (Ticknor) Finney, William's mother, and her family back to colonial Massachusetts. William O. Finney was their only child, as his mother died of typhoid fever when William was 5 years old in 1859. Thomas Jefferson Finney remarried, Mary Ann Eliza Gibson, and they had at least six children. Kathleen Ticknor Lawless
