I'm afraid there were many John Finnie's born at the early part of the 1800's in Scotland and you will need to track down John's death certificate which should give you his date and place of birth, and his parents. You could also try looking up census records which may also give you a clue as to where in world John came from.
If you then find that he came from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, then please get back in touch.
