"Miss Eva M. Finsley, 77, 408 E. 5th, died Wednesday night at Axtell Christian Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger L. Todd and the Rev. John Brown co-officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
She was born May 7, 1901, in Newton, the daughter of Henry and Frances Cameron Finsley. She had lived in Newton all of her life and was a retired waitress.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxilary, all in Newton.
She is survived by one brother, Alex Finsley of the home. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Ira.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and until noon Friday."

"Alex Finsley, 91, 408 E. 5th, a retired Santa Fe Railway clerk, died today (Aug. 7, 1987) at Axtell Christian Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Petersen's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Spinder officiating. Masonic graveside services and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
He was born July 23, 1896, in rural Newton, the son of Henry and Frances Cameron Finsley. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion, both of Newton, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
One sister, Eva M. Finsley, and two brothers, Ira Finsley and Joe Finsley, preceded him in death.
Friends may call all day Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen's Funeral Home."

"Ira C. Finsley, 80, formerly of Newton, died this morning at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, after a long illness.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Louis Dale officiating.
He was born April 6, 1896, in Harvey County, the son of Henry and Frances Finsley. He had lived in the Newton area most of his life. He was a retired chef and an Army veteran of World War I.
He is survived by one brother, Alex, and one sister, Miss Eva Finsley, both of Newton.

"Joseph E. Finsley

Funeral services for oJseph [sic] Earl Finsley, who died at 3 p.m. Saturday at Axtell-Christian hospital, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church. The body will be taken this evening from the Morris mortuary to his late home at 517 Elm and [sic] remain there until the hour of the funeral. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Dick A. Morris.
Mr. Finsley's death occurred a few hours after he was found unconscious by the side of the road near Goessel, suffering from what officers said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head.
He was born August 14, 1893 in Harvey county, the son of Henry and Anna (Cameron) Finstley [sic], and was past 47 years of age. He had resided here most of his life, except for his service in the World War. Mr. Finsley was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post and the W.O.W. He had been employed for a number of years at the Goerz Flour Mills Co.
He is survived by one sister, Eva Finsley, of the home; two brothers, Alex of the home, and Ira C., of Knoxville, Ia; and two nieces, Venillia Ryan, now at the home here, and Mrs. Cecil Ayers of Blue Rapids, Kans."

"Anna Francis Finsley passed away at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon at Bethel hospital where she had been entered three hours before. Mrs. Finsley had been in somewhat frail health for several years, but was seriously ill only a few days with cancer of the bladder. She was past 77 years. She had resided at 517 Elm for 25 years.
She is survived by seven children, three of whom lived with her. They are Joseph E., Alexander and Eva Finsley.

The body will be taken from the Sprinker Mortuary to her home, Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:30 at the First Methodist church, the Rev. Samuel W. Keller, officiating. Interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery by the side of the husband - who passed away a number of years ago."

"Henry Finsley, 517 Elm, a retired farmer who had lived in and around Newton for the past 54 years, passed away at the Bethel hospital Monday evening at 7:00. His death was caused by the effects of a paralytic stroke which came upon him December 27. He was 77 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, who is ill at their home; a daughter, Eva, and a son Joe Earl, who live at the parental home; a son, Alex, who is working at Abilene, Kan., and a son Ira, who was a World war veteran and is at the U.S. hospital for veterans at Knoxville, Ia.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Duff and Son funeral parlors with the Rev. Joseph Coe, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating."

Dressed in a gown of white satin and tulle with a cathedral train and carrying a bouquet of white roses, Miss Mary B. Macken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Macken, became the bride of Francis E. Sennott, son of Mrs. Kathryn Sennott of Rockfield, Wis.

The ceremony was solemnized Saturday morning in St. John's Catholic church by Right Rev. Louis D. O'Day before an altar decorated with peonies, gladioli, fern and palms. Donald Shearer played the nuptial music while Miss Barbara Ryan was soloist. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

Attending the bride were Miss Charleen Reilly of Dubuque, Iowa, as maid of honor and Miss Mary Ellen Sennott of Rockfield, Wis., as bridesmaid. They were dressed in ballerina length light blue organdy gowns and carried bouquets of painted daisies.

George Van Laanen of Milwaukee was best man while altar servers were Richard Campbell and Richard Miller. Ushers included Norman Sobchak of Milwaukee and George Campbell.

Following the ceremony, a bridal breakfast and a reception were held at the Markey dining room.

The bride is a graduate of Lourdes high school and attended Dunbarton college of the Holy Cross, Washington, D.C., while her husband was graduated from Menomonee Falls, Wis., high school and Marquette Law school, Milwaukee.

The couple will be at home in Germantown, Wis., after a wedding trip.

Out-of-town guests were from Piru, Calif., Dillon, Mont., Milwaukee and Rockfield, Wis., and Dubuque, Iowa."

"Jesse W. Finsley, 53, died early Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash., following a lengthy illness. He was born December 11, 1929, in Missoula.

He was educated at Missoula and Darby Schools. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a Master Sargeant in 1974.

He married Irma Guerrero, San Antonio, Texas, on June 6, 1953. For the past seven years, he rided in Colfax, Wash., where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Colfax Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife in Colfax; two sons, Mark of Seattle and Jeffrey of Cerritos, California; one daughter, Laura Webb of Torrance, California; three sisters, Dorothy Williamson and Mary Alice Gibson, both of Victor, and Ruth Taylor in California; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Victor Cemetery with the Rev. Norman Moriss officiating. Military rites will be by the Hamilton American Legion. Dowling Funeral Home is handling the arrangements."

Mrs. Fred Dart received word Tuesday that her uncle, Jesse W. Finsley, 82, a pioneer rancher of the Big Hole Basin, passed away March 4 at his home in Hamilton, Mont. He was born in January, 1875.

Survivors include his widow, Amelia, of Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law, Jesse W. Finsley, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Gibson, Victor, Mont., and Mr. and Mrs. P. Alexander, Madera, Calif.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Loren Williamson of Victor; sisters, Mrs. Clara B. Wise, Dillon, and Mrs. Bertha M. Macken, Rochester, Minn., grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Hamilton Saturday at 2 p.m."

"MRS. WOODWORTH DIES OF BURNS
Fatal Result of Accident That Occurred at Wisdom Monday Evening.
Gasoline Fires Her Clothing
The Victims Screams Attracted a Boy Who, Too Late, Renders All Possible Assistance.

Mrs. O.J. Woodworth of Wisdom was so badly burned Monday evening that she died Wednesday morning at a quarter past one o'clock.

In lighting a swinging gasoline lamp some of the gasoline leaked out and trickled down upon Mrs. Woodworth's clothing, becoming ignited when a match was struck to light the lamp.

Mrs. Woodworth's screams attracted the attention of a boy who was passing along the sidewalk. He rushed in and ran to assist the frantic woman, but she evidently did not realize what she was doing if reports are true, for it is said she fought him off as best she could at first. This she probably did fearing that the boy's clothing might catch fire, and she was willing to burn to prevent his suffering a like fate. Be that as it may, the youth succeeded in getting a blanket about her head, which was the only part of her person that escaped serious injury, and finally tore the blazing clothing from her so far as possible. The boy then ran for her husband, who was working at a store two blocks away, and medical attention was given as soon as possible.

Mrs. Woodworth was alone in the house, except her two little ones, when the accident occurred.

A telephone message early Tuesday evening reported Mrs. Woodworth still alive, with little possibility of recovery, conscious, and, strange to say, not suffering - presumably because of the treatment given her.

The unfortunate woman will be remembered by many who knew her in Dillon, when she attended school here, as Alice Finsley.

The bereaved husband and children will have the sympathy of all in their sorrow."

"Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock for Mrs. Sarah E. SMITH at the Forest Grove Undertaking chapel, Rev. Oliver Curtis officiating. Interment took place in the Forest View cemetery.

Mrs. SMITH was born December 7, 1855 at Morton, Ill., and married Leonard A. SMITH. They came to Oregon in 1884. Mrs. SMITH died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. G. "Funeral services for Guy E. Finsley, 44, farmer of Cornelius, were held at Hillsboro Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Besides the widow, Mrs. Myrtle Finsley, he is survived by three small children: Frederick H., Elizabeth, and Margaret. Interment was in the Hillsboro cemetery.

Born in Kansas, Finsley spent the greater part of his life farming in the states of Kansas and Montana. He had been in Washington county for the past four years.

The Rev. H.A. Deck officiated. Heart trouble was given as the cause of death."

"WILLIAM FINSLEY, farmer, Section 30, P. O. Newton, owns 163 acres, about 100 acres under cultivation, 5 acres in orchard. Wheat average this year is 26 bushels per acre. Was born in West Virginia in 1838 and lived there until the war broke out. Enlisted as private in Company C, Second Regiment Virginia Volunteers, in January, 1861, and was with his regiment in all its campaigns, scouting and fighting in the mountains of Virginia. Was in the battles of McDowell Cross Keyes, Slaughter Mountain, Freeman's Ford and second Bull Run where he was captured but paroled; after his exchange he joined his regiment at Beverley, W. V., and was in the battle at that place when they were driven back to Clarksburg and continued in service in West Virginia until mustered out in June, 1864. Came from native state to Kansas, June 1, 1872, locating on present farm which has been his home since. Was married in 1868, to Miss Nancy J. McCombs. They have five children -- Charles, William, Rena, Martin and Amanda. Has been a Director on School Board for three years.

"J.W. FINSLEY, VALLEY RESIDENT 25 YEARS DIED TUESDAY
J.W. Finsley passed away at the family home, 701 N. 2nd, at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday, March 5 after a lingering illness.

Jesse W. Finsley was born in Wheeling, W. Va. Jan. 3, 1876. He lived in Newton, Kans. in his early youth. In 1897 he moved to the Big Hole Basin where he ranched for 35 years. He married Amelia Tappan at Dillon June 3, 1918. That year he served as state representative from Beaverhead county.

He moved to the Bitter Root with his family in 1932, living since in Missoula, Charlos Heights and Hamilton.

Mr. Finsley is survived by his widow; three daughters: Mrs. Loren William and Mrs. LeRoy Gibson, both of Victor, Mrs. Roy Lancaster of Madera, Calif.; one son: S-Sgt Jesse W. Finsley Jr. who is stationed at Randolph Air Base, San Antonio, Texas; two sisters Mrs. Clara Wise of Dillon and Mrs. Bertha Macken of Rochester, Minn.; 24 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There are several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Ruth Dart of Dillon.

Funeral services will be at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Dowling chapel. Rev. Harry Soloos will officiate and burial will be in Victor cemetery. Pallbearers will be four grandsons: Charles Gibson, Bill, Don and Dean Williamson and two nephews Miles and Joe Woodworth of Missoula.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Roberts, Wm. Christensen, Hans Pederson, James Muir, John Carroll and W.C. Wells. The Oddfellows Lodge will give their ritual service.

All members of Mr. Finsley's family are planning to come for the services with the exception of his daughter, Mrs. Lancaster and his sister Mrs. Macken."
