If you have found only Scottish ancestors in UK, perhaps your Firths belong to the entirely separate Firth family originating in Orkney, not the family originating in Lilliesleaf (also in Scotland, but spreading mostly in northern England.)

Hey. I'm just beginning my research. A cousin of mine did a lot, but the 1800s is as far back as I have, so a possible relative in 1699 is too far back to help me at this time. But please let me know if you find mention of Eleanor. You said you hadn't found extended family "yet" so that leads me to believe your research might find them in time. Thanks! (And actually, I know that through my dad's mom's side I have English somewhere, so if Firth is from England, that would make sense, because otherwise all I've gotten is Scottish relatives on that side right now).

I'm trying to find links to the Alice Firth b 1855; her father Joseph b 1813 in Newton,Wakefield...and his father William b abt 1770-90...I tried looking on rootsweb for your tree, but was not able to find it. Is it on Ancestry or Rootsweb? Thanks.
Kris Burrill

I have lots of info. can you access my family tree that i uploaded yesterday? it is kopp/firth. My mom is a firth and descendent of that john from Salem. Our family has always lived in south Jersey in that area. I guess that makes us related. I actually have quite a bit of information even on the english part of the family - I have been doing this off and on for the last 40 years. Let me know if you can access my tree and feel free to ask questions. I would be curious to know where you fit into the tree.

I do not have an Eleanor in my direct line, but I do not have all the extended family lines in my tree yet. Hope this helps.

I really hope he can give me some insight as to where I came from and possibly connect me to someone alive who can help me grow this tree i've been working on. Although i don't carry Firth as my last name anymore because of marriages, my dad has given me the honor of carrying it as my middle name and told me that it is honorable to carry it on... with no reason why! I'm wondering where and why this began and this seems to be the only way i'll ever find out. My hopes are that you are connected to me in some way!

Hello

My family are Firth's from Yorkshire. William Firth is the name of my great grandfather and great grandfather, my grandfathers name was Joseph William Firth. Most of my grandfathers (great and otherwise) were William Crosby Firth, Ferdrick William Firth etc, etc. I don't know them all but I suggest you send my dad an e-mail he is 87 and as sharp as a whistle he will let you know the roots. William Firth did have many children I can assure you (as did my dad). He won't be around for long given his age so if you really want to know, let him know his daughter Ascencao suggested you talk to him (He is like a walking history book)
I have not written the family tree down I wish I had but he is the last of the ones who actually can tell you.
He knows how to e-mail so please do e-mail him

fradrek@googlemail.com

Kind regards Ascencao Firth
Our family tree has lost a Thomas FIRTH born 1826 in Bingley, Yorkshire, who we are reliably informed died in the USA. We last "sighted" him on the English 1841 Census.

Extensive research has failed to find him beyond that.

His father was a Joseph, as was one of his brothers (and innumerable nephews and so on).

Have you no idea which part of Yorkshires yours originated from?

Thomas & Joseph ARE very common names, and it's likely this is merely coincidence. You'd need to get more details at your end (even extended family names might help) as to when yours arrived in USA etc. before we could advance this much further.

Jools
New Zealand

Hi butcher: thanks for responding. Seems we are related.
Elizabeth McIlvena Firth (Teba, in our family) was my gr.aunt. Looking for any Firth info I can glean, and photos, as well. None in Canada, all the elders are deceased. Would appreciate personal contact offsite, if possible.
cheers, Marilyn

Firths of Redding, Shasta county, California

I've just discovered that three of the Firths in my tree,Edwin, Lavinia and Fenetta - siblings - emigrated from the Kippax area of Yorkshire between 1881 and 1888. Can't be more specific than that about the date, sorry. They ended up in redding, and seem to have had a dry goods/drapery business in Redding city centre.
Other names to conjour with, who were born in the US - Horace, Alice, Lois Lorraine.
I'm looking for anyone who might recognise one of these names to help me fill in some gaps. Thank you ;)

I found these two listings in the 2006 edition of The King's Passengers to Maryland and Virginia By Peter Wilson Coldham. (If I give the link to the previews at the books.google site, Ancestry.com will probably delete this post. You can search for it, or ask me.)

p. 217
Felons transported from Bristol by the Trotman, Capt. Joseph Blickenden, and registered in Baltimore Co. records in December 1770. (MSA: CR40,516 f. 9)
Nottinghamshire: Forth [Firth], James, sold to Daniel Shaw.

p. 9
Felons transported from London by the Gilbert, Capt. Darby Lux, in October 1720 and registered in Annapolis in May 1721. (PRO: T53/28/331; CLRO: Mss 57.7.8)
Middlesex: Frith [Firth], Elizabeth, aged 19, fair

I also found what appears to be the same person mentioned in Proceedings of Old Bailey, London. I'm not sure if she used the name Frith in MD, but she was tried under the name Firth. The sentence was probably transportation for 7 years, but of course we never know if the defendant returned to England.

http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t17201012-25-de...
Elizabeth Firth, Theft > grand larceny, 12th October 1720.
Reference Number: t17201012-25
Offence: Theft > grand larceny
Verdict: Guilty
Punishment: Transportation
Elizabeth Firth , of St. Martins in the Fields , was indicted for feloniously stealing a Poplin Gown and Petticoat value 8 s. a Camblet Gown and Petticoat value 6 s.
Valentine Firth (Mirfield, Yorkshire) & son David (NJ)

We're searching for family of Valentine Firth, a stone mason living in Mirfield, Yorkshire from about 1801-1863. He married Ann Clarkson (b. abt. 1801) and had children Mary, Ann, Edward, Joseph, William, David, Sarah, and Alfred. We don't know the names of Valentine's parents, although in the 1841 census, there is a Sarah Firth living with them who was born about 1761.

We're descended through Valentine & Ann's son, David (b. abt. 1834), who married Mary McClure in Birkenhead, Chesire in 1862 and immigrated to Hackensack and then Lopatcong, NJ in 1869. David and Mary had children David J., Margaret, William, Joseph, Alfred, and Ella. If any of this sounds familiar, we'd love to hear from you.

well... i am interested in any firths i can find related to this one particular William (which again is very common)... but i believe based on the children he had he would have had to have been born in the early 1800's. I don't see that name anywhere in my tree, but that doesn't exclude that he may be. I'm so lost! I wish there was only one stretch of firths in that location so it would be so much more easier for me!

I have not found anyone that this books should go to so I have decided to donate it to the Special Collections Library (Genealogy for Rio Grande Public Library System) in Albuquerque, NM. You can ask them or the Albuquerque Genealogical Society to check for names in the book.

want to get this family book back into the hands of family

I have come across a copy of the Family Book written by Margie Rae Dean Firth d/o Leo L. Dean and Margie Lois Ferrin. I would like to get it back into the family's hands. It was written in 1991 and is over 500 pages long, tracing her family back to the 1600's. This is the same book that is in the LDS library. All I ask is the cost of shipping the book. If you belong to this family and would like the book, please contact me at nmjodie@yahoo.com. I will only give it to a family member. If I do not find a family member who wants the book I will donate it to our local genealogical library.
