Read with interest your request. We are an Australian branch of the Fitzgerald family and there is a relationship to Rose Fitzgerald who married a Kennedy. There is a book in existence in Australia which traces the very early history I am lead to believe and am trying to track that down. The seat of the family home was County Clare in Ireland and there is the remains of a castle still standing so rellies who have been over tell me. Not much detail I am sorry but an interesting link never the less

In 1900, 1880 and 1870 the Patrick Fitzgerald family is living in Milford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. In 1900 the wife is shown as Francis E., in 1880 she is shown as Francis and 1870 she is Franny/Fanny. In 1880 Ellen Hartnett, mother-in-law is living in the household. Ellen is 74 years old, born in Ireland. Children in these census records are James F., Ellen F., William H., and Albert.

Who was the father of Francis E. Fitzgerald?

Is there anyone on the board who is researching this family? I would like to learn more about the Fitzgerald and Hartnett families. Where was Ellen Hartnett in 1870?

FITZGERALD surname

My FITZGERALDS ended up living in Mortlake, Surrey. Three of one speccific family are buried there. Some lived in Lambeth and some in Richmond.Three are buried in east Sheen Cemetery in Barnes. In that cemetery is my Uncle Bernard Fitzgerald. I would truly be interested what is written on his headstone; perhaps dates that will help me out a lot.He should be interred with his mother and father, William and Florence FITZGERALD. Bernards death would have been in 1934 along with his mothers.
If amyone is researching this surname in this area, let's compare notes. If you have advice for me, let me know.
Thank you fellow researchers.
Shannon in Canada

Thank you for your reply. William immigrated to Wales some time prior to 1871 and appears to have married his wife Julia in Ireland. William shared a house with his brother Jeremiah in Wales. The whole family moved from Wales to West Ham Essex before 1878 where William's only child Edward was born in Canning Town West Ham Essex. William died after 1911 and so far I have been unable to find a death certificate for him.
I hope this is the information you are looking for.
Many thanks

I am trying to find information about William Fitzgerald. I do not have an exact place of birth only that William was born abt 1843 in Cork. William married Julia(maiden name unknown) William's parents were Patrick and Julia Fitzgerald. William had a brother Jeremiah and a sister Mary Ann but possibly there were other siblings.
I would be very grateful for any information that might enable me to find a record of William' birth.

Hi Jim,
>From the Massachusetts Vital Records online at the New England Historic
Genealogical Society site, I find the following for Alice Fitzgerald born
about 1887.
One born 10 June 1887, in Newburyport, to Patrick and Mary Moyan. He was a
laborer, both born in Ireland. Volume 376, p. 344.
Another b. Chicopee, 7 May6 1887, of Thomas & Bridget, a chairweaver. Father
born Fair Haven, Connecticut, mother born Chicopee.
In case the year might be off a bit, there is an Alice Mary Fitzgerald, born
Boston, 15 August 1885 to Edward L. & Louise A. Fitzgerald. Father born
Boston, Mother born Lynn. His occupation was a junk dealer. Volume 360, p.
136.
On 22 April 1883, Edward L. Fitzgerald, 32, b. Boston, junk dealer, son of
John C. & Mary, married Louise A. Jackson, of Lynn, 23 operator, b. Lynn,
daughter of Alexander & Mary. Volume 343. page 290. I can't find a birth
record for either Edward L nor Louise Jackson.
If any of this sounds promising, perhaps we can pursue this further.
Regards,
ginny
ginnyb@comcast.net
Thier daughter, my great-grandmother was Mary Bridget Fitzgerald and I'm told born in County Wexford, Ireland about 1840 the year also shows in census records. Mary Bridget Fitzgerald alledgedly came to Boston and married a Richard Walsh and later moved to Troy, NY where they began showing up in the 1880s city directories. He was originally here under the name Welsh/Welch and had served in the 1st Delaware Inf during the Civil War. Mary's daughter Margaret Walsh Shea was convinced her mother was related to Ambassador Joe Kennedy through his wife Rose Fitzgerald. I would love to find out if this is true or wishfull thinking although in the 1950s I'm not sure how well known Ambasador Kennedy would have been. Any help would be appreciated.

My great-grandmother was Mary Bridget Fitzgerald, dau of Patrick and Alice (?) Fitzgerald, born 1840 and married Richard Walsh in Boston in 1867. We don't know whether she was born in Ireland or Boston but census records state Ireland. Family says she and Richard were from County Wexford, but most family says most were from Cork but I haven't found proof of one yet. My grandmother, Margaret Walsh Shea, always said she was related to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and I would love to know whether that was true or wishful thinking, although she did tell me that long before JFK was president. She grew up in Troy, New york as did my father and I.

Hoping to make contact with anyone researching the family of Edward W. Fitzgerald (b. 1836) and his wife Elizabeth C. Sweeney (b.1842) of Albany, NY. They moved to Brooklyn before 1900. One daughter, Emma E. (b.1875) married George W. Hermance. I have found new information about an ancestor who changed his name and thus created a brick wall.
Yes you may, do you have a subscription to ancestry? I do not at this point, but I did in January of 2009 and the information should the same.

I had stated Patrick and Mary Esther, but it was Mary Ellen, Mary Esther was my great grandmother, their daughter and sister to your James Fitzgerald. Ancestry has Mary Esther and James incorrectly listed in the 1861 census as having been born in Corlton. It is instead Bolton.

I have traced the family in the 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses. I have Mary Esther's marriage certificate, Ambrose's birth certificate, John's birth certificate, Mary Esther's son's birth certificate (My Grandfather)on my maternal side.

Maureen

Was your family in Wigan?
How are you descended from Patrick Fitzgerald and Mary Esther Giffin?

I am so excited. I have a few birth certificates and the censuses for the family. The Fitzgerald family helped my O'Neill side of the family so much.

First of all I want to thank you for your information ,I dont think they are the ones ,but at least I finnaly got something, and thats more than the rest of the family so far. What I foregot to mention was that Alice was born March 12 1887 in Boston, and according to the 1900 census under the Alice M Patriquin heading her mother was born in Boston ,and her Father was born in New Hampshire births dates and names uknown on both of them. This is very hard because on the name of Fitzgerald and it being in Boston makes it even harder .Its like looking for a neddle in a hay stack.I just about out of Ideas but maybe if you have that info it might help.Again I say thank you for everything .This is terible we are talking about a grandmother who has no idenity left .Okay Ill keep trying .I hate to ask for more ,but do you have any Ideas on what I can do from here? Take Care and thak you again. Bob

I have been at a dead end for 8 years now - researching it off and on. I have had some previous "help" through ancestry members with thoughts that my Fitzgeralds may have come through Canada 1st. There is nothing definitive on this. I have good information on the McDonald family - John B. Fitzgerald's wife. I just do NOT have anything on my Fitgerald further back than Thomas Fitzgerald b. 31 May 1842. Where was he from from? Who were his ancestors, when did the come to America and when/where did they come???

PLEASE HELP!!!
Sorry - I just saw your post. I guess ancestry didn't send me an e-mail. My grandmother was born in Ireland and married my grandfather in Chicago in 1911 so I don't think she is the person you were looking for. Good Luck!

Hi I don't know if you are still on this site. I am looking for Mullins in Clonmel. My grandmother was Johanna/Josephine Mullins. She was born in Clonmel, Tipperary in 1875. Her father is stated as John Mullins on her wedding certificate. At age 7 she was raised by the Tobins until she came to Boston in 1896. Sound familiar at all.
