Trying to find any information on family tree. I have info that a John Fitzgibbons, born in May 1830 in Ireland, came to this country in 1849 or 1855. Settled in Warsaw NY. Married Catherine Donlon in 1860. He was my great grandfather. I can go back no further than that--Have nothing on Irish heritage.

Thanks

My mother is Sheila Stone (White). She was born in Fulton, NY. Her father is Ernest White (had a sister named Helen) and grandmother is Augusta Fitzgibbons (all from Oswego.) So, Augusta Fitzgibbons is my great-grandmother. I don't have a lot of information on that branch of the family but I'm sure my mother does. Also, her Aunt Connie still lives in Oswego.

Hi Tom,

I would be too rigid when it comes to the names & spellings. Keep an open mind & you will ber more succesful in your searches.

Fitzgibbon, Fitzgibbons , Gibbons & even Fitzgerald are ll the same family

Fitz & O' & Mc & Mac.....just mean "son of" Gibbon (s)

So some of the children could havew taken the name of Gibbon , Gibbons, Fitzgibbon or Fitzgibbons or even Fitz-Gibbon (s)etc

I was getting no where fast until I found the Irish Family History Foundation website. You can do you own searches there for free -but it you find a record you want to look at your have to pay. But it was great for me .

I found my James & Maria Fitzgibbon's marriage record & all of their 9 children's baptism records too!

When I went to the Gibbon DNA website - my information match exactly with the info there. So I knew I was on the right track.

Good luck!!
Jan:)

Jan:
Thanks for the info. The relationship sounds plausible. I will continue to poke around with these names (the ones I knew and the ones you suggested).
Thanks for the link to the DNA site. I will figure out what I'm looking at and see if there's any pertinent info. I had heard of the project but was discouraged by what I thought was the rule to have a Gibbon(s)/Fitzgibbon (s) name. My mother was a Fitzgibbons.
I'll check it out.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. I had kind of hit the wall on this one.
Cheers,
Tom Cruser

David Fitzgibbon & wife Catherine Sullivan & daughter Mary

I found this article on the web & thought it might be of interest to someone out there??

"Mr. Higgins was married January 5, 1879, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Miss Mary Fitzgibbon, daughter of David and Catherine (Sullivan) Fitzgibbon, natives of Ireland, the former of Limerick and the latter of County Cork. David Fitzgibbon was a railroad man, and on coming to America met, in Buffalo, New York, Miss Sullivan, and there they were married. They were located at various points in Michigan and lived for some time in Kalamazoo. He died in 1895, aged seventy-six years, and his Wife in March, 1904, in her eighty-second year. They had three children: David, of Grand Rapids; Michigan; John and Mrs. Mary Higgins. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Higgins, Jr., namely: James: George; Agnes; Joseph; Frank; and Leo, who died November 24, 1904. Of this family, James is secretary of the Higgins Spring & Axle Company, while George is employed in the axle plant. Mr. and Mrs. Higgins are communicants of St. Rose Catholic church and he belongs also to the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Royal League and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He has long been a recognized leader in democratic circles and has on various occasions been called to public office, serving for two terms as alderman in the city council from the sixth ward, beginning in 1889, while in 1899 he was elected mayor of the city, being continued in the office for four years through his re-election in 1901. His administration was characterized by various plans that prevented useless expenditure, that promoted progress along beneficial lines and that introduced needed reforms and improvements. In 1905-06 he served as president of the park board and his activities for the benefit of the city have been far-reaching, his labors contributing much to the municipal progress and to the material development and upbuilding of Racine. He belongs to that class of substantial American citizens who owe their progress to personal effort, diligence and determination and his life record should serve to inspire and encourage others, indicating what may be accomplished by persistent, earnest effort intelligently directed."

Patrick and Bridget (Flanagan) Fitzgibbons were born in Limerick, Ireland around 1820 and came to the US with their son James around 1842. At some point, they migrated to Canada (Nova Scotia or Newfoundland). James reappeared in Holderness, New Hampshire in 1865 to join the Union Navy (the enlistment papers said that he was from Nova Scotia). He later settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts where he was married (1871), raised a family and died (1912). He married Susannah (O'Brien/Bryan/Brine/Brien)from Newfoundland.
I am looking for any info on Patrick and Bridget after 1842 and for James between 1842 and 1865.
James is my great-grandfather. His son Michael (my grandfather)(1886-1949) married Mary Augusta Hayes(my grandmother)(1885-1930) in Charlestown in 1907. I have good info on them, would like more on the subject Fitzgibbons.
Thanks,
Tom Cruser
New Orleans, LA

We have Patrick O'Donnell FitzGibbon, born 1818 in Ireland, married to Mary Garland, also of Ireland. We believe his parents were Patrick and Hanora (O'Donnell) FitzGibbon, married in Bruff Parish 1813. We also found Margaret, sister of P.O.D.(?) and daughter of Patrick and Hanora, who emigrated to Austrailia in 1851 at age 18. Likely there are 3 other siblings.
Any connections?

The James Fitzgibbons in my family was born about 1799 somewhere in Ireland, died about 1863 in Dubuque, Iowa. He was listed as a farmer in the 1850 Dubuque Iowa census. That's all the information I have, hope it helps.

If you give me your real e-mail, I can "invite" you to my Family Tree on Ancestry and that way you can show your DAd. My Fitzgibbons are from County Limerick...but you never know. There are about 62 billion of them and they all settled in Hoboken and jersey city so we may be related.
Very cool working on Ellis Island. Geneaology is a wonderful habit and Ancestry almost takes the fun out of the research. I have been working on the history for about 20 years, back when you had to send away to the Mormons for records etc. I'm now working on my husbands family and have them going back to Elizabeth I and he is related to Pres. Bush, John Hancock and came over on the Mayflower (still working that angle.
but, again, send me your e-mail and I'll let you see the tree and maybe you'll see a familier name
Maggie Curry Ciocco (maggieciocco@aol.com)

I will have to check with my grandfather. It may be an uncle or grandfather of our family. I am actually a teacher in NJ now and am working with the NAtional Endowment for the Humanities and the Non-profit organization Save Ellis Island this week. I have been learning alot about immigration and immigrant families and have known little about my Irish side of the family. Most of what I know is about my Italian family who came through Ellis. My father tells me that the Fitzgibbons came here in the mid 1800s from County Cork and settled in Hoboken shortly after. I will check in with my dad and let you know.

They had James, John Jr., Catherine, Margaret, Mary and Bridgett. The wife died and he remarried and had 3 more daughters, Anna, Helen and Alice.
Jack Fitzgibbons came from Ireland with his brother James (who married Bessie) and his sister Margaret (Maggie).
Does any of this sound familiar :)

Jan, Not sure if we have a connection or not. The only info I have at this time on my G Grandmother is that her name was Jane Fitzgibbon(s) and she lived on Crawfords Lane in Bruff, County Limerick. She married Denis Connor(s) around 1875 as my Grandfather Patrick was born in 1876 and lived in Bruff most of his life. He died in 1917 in Dublin. I would appreciate any info you run across on her during your research. I will not have a chance to do much more until next year when I plan to go to Ireland for a few weeks vacation. Thanks Joe Cronin

I'm sorry I don't have anything on your William or your John Fitzgibbbons. I wish I did. A Fitzgibbons , born in Virginia, circa 1770 is very early on in Fitzgibbons colonial era genealogy. Have you tried searching in Virginia records? Also, do you know if you are related to these Fitzgibbons? If so, do you know a living male with surname Fitzgibbon(s) who is descended from Wiliam or John? If he had his DNA analysed, this could lead to finding more about the genealogy of William & John in Ireland or the US.
Bob Fitzgibbons

John & William Fitzgibbons Land Grant and Probate Records

In the 1840 Citizens of Texas Vol. 1 Land Grants by Gifford White ,there is a Fitz Gibbons and a Nancy that state thier ages as 70 and 76. Fitz gibbons states his birth place as Virgina and Nancy states hers as Pennyslvania. I truly feel like this is the William Fitzgibbons and Nancy Whitaker that where married in Ouachita Parish,La. and migrated to Texas for the 1822 land grants.
I dont know who John Fitzgibbons mother is.Still searching for William Fitzgibbons first wife before he married Nancy Whitaker. There is a lot of questions with this group.
My mother found an Austin county probate record for William Fitzgibbons born 1829 in Bellville,Tx (who married Ann Amelia Van houten) ...It states:
Succession of John Fitzgibbons:Petition of Gustavus E Edwards to represent that John Fitzgibbons departed this life in 1831 leaving only one child named William who is about 8 years old.Robert Peebles, Esq. was appointed administrator of the succession of said John Fitzgibbons and guardian of William Fitzgibbons. Gustavus E Edwards has had the child since his father died and prays for appoint of gaurdian. 24 Sept 1837 signed ,Gustavus E Edwards, Robert Peebles and Crosby J Hudson. Bond of $5000 for guardianship by G E Edwards , J Cummings and L Kincheloe 25 Sept 1837 J B Johnson , Probate Court Clerk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David Michael Fitzgibbons and Lillian Esther (surname unknown) Fitzgibbons

I am in search of descendants of David Michael Fitzgibbons and Lillian Esther (surname unknown) Fitzgibbons. They both died on July 26, 1959, in Highlands County, Sebring, FL.
They were from Fishkill, NY and at that time were quite well off. I remember reading the court papers.
They had visited a son I think in California. There may be newspaper articles or documents that would have this information.
My father was killed in this same auto accident that tragically took their lives.
Because of my interest in genealogy, as well as this being a pivotal moment in all our lives, I truly would like to speak with anyone who is a relative even.
My private email is
LadyDaughtery@gmail.com
Hanora Fitzgibbons/Patrick Egan/Archibald McDonnell

Hanora Fitzgibbons and Patrick Egan were living in Danville, PA USA in 1872 when they produced my great grandmother Hannora Egan (Hannah) who married Archibald McDonnell (b 1872). Archie's parents, John McDonnell and Margaret Murphy were both born in Ireland, probably immigrated during the famine, lived for a while in Perth,Canada, and then in Montello, Wisconsin USA.

Hannah and Archie lived in Montello, where they produced 7 offspring: Charles William (b. 1892), Gertrude (b. 1896), John Patrick (b. 1899) Leo (b. 1903), Grace Marie (b. 1904), Florence Elizabeth (b.1906), Gerald (b. 1911). At some point they moved to Jamestown, New York. Archie was a blacksmith. When he died Hannora Egan McDonnell moved to St. Paul, Minnesota.

If anyone has informaton on Patrick Egan and Hanora Fitzgibbons, or John McDonnell and Margaret Murphy or their issue, please contact me. I have more details on these families. Jane Dianne McDonnell
