Do you have any information about Robert Washington giving slaves to President George Washington. I know that he gave/sold him slaves named Isaac and James. Do you have any other information about Robert's slaveownership?

I am the greatgranddaughter of Hannah Odell Fitzhugh (dove then evans). The family believed she was born in 1908 however i have a census from 1910 that list her as 4, which means she would have actually been born in 1906. I thought I had a connection to William (the immigrant ) but dates arent matching. Any help into her ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Jim: My name is Richard Dodge, husband of Carolyn, who is the daughter of Wilma Renyer & grand-daughter of Luke Fitzhugh. I married Carolyn on 31 January 1953, and your Father & Mother stood up at our wedding (Jim was my Valet & Dolores was a bridesmaid). Your parents met at our wedding rehearsal & soon married. Your Father & I met sometime in March 1951 when I was assigned to the B-29 Bomber crew that soon became known as "Capt' Sam & 10 Scents (later dubbed the Skunks). Your Father Jim & I flew between 19 & 37 combat missions over North Korea from December 1951 til June 1952. We had a harrowing experience & crashed on Xmas day 1951, & a debriefing officer asked if we were scared & Jim said "No!" as we had Jesus on board! He was referring to our right waist gunner Jesus Villianova, (I was left & Jim was tail gunner) We will later post our exact dates of the geneaology info when Carolyn feels better. Thanks for your good work! Where is your address? DrDodge@cableone.net

They most likely met in Florida.

FITZHUGH, JOHN T. P. (1815-?). Texas Pioneer:Do YOU Have Date & Place of Death?

FITZHUGH, JOHN T. P. (1815-?). John T. P. Fitzhugh, physician and soldier at San Jacinto, was born in Prince William County, Virginia, in 1815 and immigrated to Texas in 1835. At Nacogdoches on January 14, 1836, he enrolled for six months as a private in the Volunteer Auxiliary Corps. Later he served as assistant surgeon under William Francis H. Davidson on the staff of Col. Edward Burleson, commander of the First Regiment, Texas Volunteers. At the battle of San Jacinto, having received no orders, Fitzhugh and the other medical officers advanced with the Texas troops, ready to treat the wounded or take part in the fighting as need be. Fitzhugh entered the fight at the center of the Mexican line.

His brother Wesley was a private in Capt. Gustavus A. Parker's company of Georgia volunteers and later a "surgeon dentist" in Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Green's Second Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Texas. Wesley Fitzhugh died on September 11, 1836. After leaving the army John Fitzhugh practiced medicine in Bastrop County for five years. He was in Bastrop as late as January 22, 1840, when he made application to become administrator of his brother's estate; both he and his brother had received bounty donations in Van Zandt County. By 1858 he had returned to Prince Edward County, Virginia, and the following year was living in Canton, Mississippi. He was still living there in 1874, when he became a member of the Texas Veterans Association, but by October 1877 he had moved to Warren County, Mississippi.

His documented descendants may be elgible for the Sons or Daughters of the Republic of Texas as follows:

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) is a sororal association dedicated to perpetuating the memory of Texas pioneer families and soldiers of the Republic of Texas. DRT was formed in 1891 by Betty Ballinger and Hally Bryan and was originally called the Daughters of the Lone Star Republic.

Membership in DRT is open to women at least sixteen years of age who are personally acceptable to the association and who can prove lineal descent from men and women who rendered loyal service to Texas prior to its annexation in 1846 by the United States. Acceptable loyal service includes colonization with Stephen Fuller Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” or by the authority of the Spanish, Mexican, or Texas Republican governments; military service to the Spanish, Mexican, or Texas Republican governments during the appropriate era; loyal citizenship of the Republic of Texas prior to annexation; or receipt of land grants authorized by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Texas.

DRT maintains a library at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio and a museum in Austin on the history of Texas.

Thank you for the reply.
Re: FITZHUGH, JOHN T. P. (1815-?). Texas Pioneer:Do YOU Have Date & Place of Death?

I will see if I can revise his obituary.

Hi Chad! I believe we are distantly related. My info on the Fitzhugh's runs along the same lines as the info you posted. My great-grandmother Myrtle Fitzhugh Luthy was your great-grandfather's older sister, according to my info. Please email me back for more info! Thanks!
