Hi, My cousin and I are just starting our search. We are decendents of the Fitzwilliam-> Halls. My maiden name is Hall. There looks to be a lot of activity with this name search and we would be thrilled to exchange info, although it is very limited on our part.
Best Regards, Julie Hall, of the Bothell, WA Hall's.

Michael J Burke, Fitzwilliam agent in Co Wicklow?

I'm researching a Dublin barrister Michael John Burke who could well have been an agent or factor for the Fitzwilliam family, in Carnew, County Wicklow, in the 1840s. I'd be happy for relevant information or advice on how to explore Fitzwilliam rescources to see if this man was indeed an agent for the family. Many thanks.

The Patrick Fitzwilliam of Galveston is a grandson of the James Fitzwilliam and Mary Byrne in the subject line. His parents were James Fitzwilliam and Bridget Doyle and he is a brother of my great great grandfather, Thomas. Patrick is mentioned as having fought in a Civil War battle in Arkansas and as having met his brother, James W., after that battle. After the war, he migrated to Galveston to live with another brother, Denis, and eventually ended up in Los Angeles as a real estate broker.

It's possible that the Indiana Fitzes are related to my branch but I am unaware of what happened to all of the children of James & Mary, so it's hard to make connections. Someone in the Indiana branch would have to know that their ancestor is connected to James & Mary before we could close the loop.

Fitzwilliam DNA project

Has anyone knowledge of a DNA project for surname Fitzwilliam?

I've had my 37 marker test done by Family Tree DNA and don't match anyone in their data base.

The same problem exists for YSearch and YBase, no matches.

Dr. John Mcewan suggests that my ancestors come from Ireland due to the fact that my nearest matches are all Irish.

All I know as far as the paper trail is concerned is that my earliest known paternal ancestor was born in the Isle of Man in the mid 1600's.

Suggestions please.

Hi Jill
Yes we have. I was the pest that asked you to participate in a DNA sample. I think your dad did it but I would not get to know. If he did we are all still waiting for the results. SMGF have changed their policy and are now well behind in processing samples. The people in our batch are fed up with waiting but we hope for not much longer. If he did the sample when we have the results you will make much progress with your family tree.
Best wishes to you both

John Hall

I believe that my ancestor, John Fitzwilliam, was born 1835 in Wexford or Wicklow, Ireland. His parents were probably James & Bridget Doyle Fitzwilliam who left Ireland for New Orleans in 1850-1. James died onboard the ship.

Hello
My fathers family is Fitzwilliam Hall. Our records also show that we are decended from Arthur of the Hall. However we have not dropped the Fitzwilliam bit and have always used Fitzwilliam Hall as our surname, although we sometimes just use Fitzwilliam. My line of the family eventualy moved to Cornwall.

Fitzwilliam, Askew, Thompson

William Askew married Barbara Thompson in 1794, Aubourn Lincs UK. He died there in 1844 aged 74. There is a strong family tradition that he was related to the Fitzwilliam family, and there are descriptions of relevant documentation. He is said to have ‘run away’ from Bury St Edmunds (when young?). There are also indications of a Peterborough connection. Does anyone know anything more of his origins?

I do not know if this is accurate or not but from what I've been reading Joanna Fitzwilliam's mother may have been
Elanor De Plantagenet.

I do not know how helpful this will be but I am fairly sure that the father of Joanna Fitzwilliam is Edward Fitzwilliam. I have not yet been able to locate any dates for him. I will be sure to let you know if and when I do. I am related to Joanna Fitzwilliam through my Great Grandmother Cummings on my Maternal Grandfathers side.

James Fitzwilliam & Mary Byrne

I am a 6th generation descendant of this couple, who lived in County Wexford, Ireland. Anecdotal evidence has him born in about 1760, with descendants who lived in and emigrated from Arklow, County Wicklow in about 1850. I have a substantial family tree developed subsequent to this couple and would like to hear from other Fitzwilliam descendants in the United States. Please contact me at fitzenterp@aol.com and we can correspond about any familial relationships.
