Are you sure we have a connection. It is great if we do as I know very little about the Flacks. Interestingly, according to my mum - Lynda Herring (Flack), her grandfather, my great grandfather was adopted suggesting that he is not a Flack by blood. I have contacted BArnados about this and they will search their records for a price. I am interested to see if we have a link and if you can indeed shed some light on this mystery. Also, I believe my/our grandad, was born out of wedlock!!! Ok, so not so shocking these days but it would have been. The only evidence I have is from matching up census records. I am a little rusty as I really haven't done anything with this since earlier in the year....

Flack of Black mountain,NC via Ireland migration(2 brothers-plantation)see also Weavertown,NC

I am of a diverse multicultural background. I have been made aware that the origin of the Flack family experience best recorded here on the US east coast goes as follows; Two Irish brothers upon relocating to a new,yet familiar landscape-Western North Carolina-embarked upon a new beginning with the establishment of a plantation in the Great Smokey Mountains. My roots,of record begin here.My Grandmother,Corrine simply called her grandmother"Granny" as did everyone else,so i don't have any direct information except the knowledge that "Granny" had a daughter named Carrie Flack who died when my Gramma was just six years old which would have been in 1931 as my Gramma is 84 to date.Utilizing the(Asheville,NC) local ancestry archives we have been able to validate this information as well as other birth, death, and marriage information pertaining to the town now known as weaverville, NC as it relates to we Flack...however, as it was a common occurance, there was a fire in"Ye Olde Hall Of Records" that destroyed any slave origin information as well as vital property history including "freedmen". Its been said that most of the slaves shipped to this particular region eminated from West Afrika. Many of my ancestors of this time period, to which i refer were involved in family relations interwoven throughout the local native american populus and the plantation owners themselves. We are of a myriad of hues ranging from lightest caucasoid to medium dark negroid. I have a wonderful bronze myself(humbly). My mother is what is commonly considered, high yellow and my Grandmother still maintains the native american dark red tone. My mother has a classically considered,"fine" proboscis but Grammas got a nose more like an afikan. We all are quite tall and most start out lanky to develop into Amazon females and Near gladiator size males post puberty. When i encounter people with thick backgrounds including just one of my three major components of culture,I have found that my ancestry is clearly "written on my face".I am always told by native Irish that i seem familiar to the people of a certain mountainous region in Ireland that mimics The Great Smokey Mountains of WNC (vast, misty,&heavy vegetation). Those of Senegalese background say that my tendencies and personal cultural mannerisms mimic that of the FULA tribe,(Fulani)who emulate from the mountains in the westernmost parts of Senegal. I once had a job that called for contacting a list of patrons upon which i saw a Flack.when communications opened my greeting was,"well hello cousin",this is when i found out, from a caucasian relative that having taken into consideration, my limited information and proper spelling of Flack(w/no "s"),WE are Irish. If any relevant questions or information is to be discussed concerning this branch of Us,contact me.-
Empress Andrajennique:andrajennique@yahoo.com-
Peace,Love&Blessings
_P.S.My end of the family, since slavery have utilized a first name beginning with "L".(example;my aunt Bi was one of 10 children, the only girl. Here are some of the names as i remember them:LeVanna,LeVirgil,LeVinnard,LeBron,Laird,Lenno,Linnwood& a few others i never could remember. In 2000 aunt Bi was about 93 years old the last of her set.)My mother comtinued this family tradition with her first 3 children,My name is LaNee.

Hi,

I am also descended from Samuel Flack, his son Allen Flack, his son Edward Flack, his son Orley Flack and his son, my father, Clifford Flack. My brother's family still runs the family farm first settled by Samuel in 1848. If you are interested in info from this thread of the family, I can fill in some blanks.
I have not found any more info about Samuel prior to emigrating than what is posted on this board. I have seen his gravestone, however, at home in Creemore.

Carolyn

I have the survey, warrent, patent and on down through other sales for property of Robert Flack. The warrent was dated July 1792. The warrent lists adjoining lands belonging to James Flack, Michael Huffnagle, Andrew Sharp, and William Kirkpatrick. However the survey shows the land being joined by John McNahers, Agness Brown, John Reynolds and William Kirkpatrick. I am still trying to place my Flack lines in Fairfield. So far no luck with other Flacks on this site. Any help out there?
By the way, Robert Flack called his property "contentment".
Possible sisters: Mary(Smith)and Isabella (Patterson, Boyd)
Carolyn,

I have a Levi Flack who was married to Nora Jane Harper (date unknown) and had a child in 1902 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I can't find any other info on either Levi or Nora. Since your Levi married Myrtle Glover in 1903, I was wondering if you have anything that would indicate a prior marriage. Can you place Levi someplace else other than Iowa prior to his marriage to Myrtle? I'm wondering if maybe there was a previous marriage to Nora and maybe she could have died in childbirth or something. Do you have anything about a child named Bert (or possibly Albert, etc.) being raised by Levi and Myrtle. I know I'm stretching here, but you know how that goes!

I have lived for 40 years in Toronto on Sword Street and am currently carrying out research on all the inhabitants of this small street of 40 houses or so from its inception in 1877. I am not a descendant of the Flack family.

The family of David Flack mentioned in the 1881 Canadian Census lived at number 2 Sword Street. The annual Mights Toronto City Directories for 1880, 1881 and 1882 only list him as the householder for this side entrance leading upstairs over the grocer's shop called David Flack & Sons. The shop entrance is on Gerrard Street East and until a year ago was still being used as convenience store. It is currently vacant. I can try to track his movements through the City Directories before and after that date if that is helpful. Presumably he did not leave the City of Toronto, if he died here. It may be possible to track him back to 1854 or further.

I expect you know that Johanna Reynolds and David (a widower) were married by license by the rector of the Anglican cathedral of St James on 27 April, 1854. With the date of death you have provided, I can verify his burial place (Mount Pleasant or St James) if this information is of interest. I presume that the St James cemetery in question is the one on Parliament Street in the same general area of Toronto, with its chapel dedicated to St James the Less, not to be confused with the cathedral.

A Reynolds family lived on Sword Street from 1880 on for at least twenty years, but I do not know whether it had any connection with Johanna Reynolds.

John Flack (1790-1843) Centre County, PA

I am searching for the birthplace and parents of John Flack, born circa 1790, and died 12 Dec 1843 in Centre County, PA. John Flack first appeared in Centre County in 1811, and he worked as a laborer/itinerant ironworker in Centre County, John Flack's probable wife was Susanna, born circa 1792, and died after 1841 in Centre County. An Elizabeth was also mentioned as a wife of John Flack in an 1815 Centre County court document. John Flack fathered as many as 15 children, including Thomas Flack (1812-1880), m Catharine Logan; Jacob Flack (1824-1880 d Oil City, PA) m Mary Edgar (Haber?) Jacob was my ggg grandfather; Nelson Flack (18 Sept 1831-29 July 1908), m Jane Brown. John Flack is included in Nelson's death certificate as the father of Nelson. Any relevant information that you can provide regarding this family would be helpful. Thank you very much.
His father Mathew Robert 12-15-1849 to 11-30-1936(somewhere in Grant Parish) and his mom Mary Ann 1851-1905. Like I said the Honeycutt's never kept in touch very closely so I am searching like you. You may have already gotten all this info if not I hope it helps. Do you know anything about Mack's great-grand parents John Honeycutt and Sada Zada Yada? I seem to loose the Honeycutts around John and Sada. I know that all the info I have on John may not be accurate; I may have mixed up two John Honeycutt's.
Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Hi Nada

Looking for something else I discovered your postings of 2002 and 2003 on Rootsweb Ancestry.com and in the ‘Help Wanted’ pages (2003) of the website of the Ballarat Genealogical Society re the FLACK family and I note that Catherine Flack’s maiden-name was MOWBRAY. (I have today been unable to contact you through your 2003 email address.)

Do you know anything about the MOWBRAY side of this family, ie Catherine's ancestry and where they came from? Did they come from northern Ireland (where the spelling ‘Mowbray’ used to occur) or from Scotland where the ‘Moubray’ spelling was more common? Have you looked at the one-name listings for MOWBRAY and MOUBRAY? See mowbray@one-name.org managed by David Mowbray in England. People from different parts of the world contact David and get onto his and other Mowbrays’ mailings on Mowbray@yahoogroups.com

One pair of my great-great grandparents were William Mowbray (ca 1784 Ballintra, Co. Donegal, Ireland–1850 East Tamar, Tasmania, Australia) and his wife Euphemia Mowbray (née Teevan) (ca 1791 Co. Fermanagh, Ireland–1843 East Tamar, Tasmania, Australia), who emigrated with their family form Ballintra where they were farmers in 1843.

William’s Mowbray ancestors had come to Ballintra (as ‘Moubray’) from Ayr, Scotland in the early 1700s; the patriarch Robert Moubray had lived in the Edinburgh region, where he had married Elizabeth Saers (Sawers) (from Ayr) in 1696. There were many related members of the Mowbray tribe in and near Ballintra in the early 1800s, but some emigrated to Canada and the USA early in the 19th century.

Is any of this familiar to you, Nada?

Best regards

Tony Rainer

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

PS One of my Mowbray third cousins here in Victoria is Russell Moubray Hodge – any connection of yours?
2 websites to look at for Flacks:-
1 - http://www.jamesflack.com/tng500/
2 - http://www.flackgenealogy.com/
Both sites are similar(but different) and both have searchable database.

On the 1st site I am furiously using ancestry.com to try and source the 150+ different Flack Families - and especially trying to extend a lot of the American ones back to England.

The object of the exercise is to try and dispense with the myths and try to establish the fact - If anyone can help I'd obviously love to hear from you.

Hi Denis

All my records are now on the website www.flackgenealogy.com - it has a searcheable database and a LOT of James Flack's (even around the date you quote).

I did however find 1 entry for a George Taylor Flack b.1833 Stoke Newington, Middlesex.
Marriage of John Harrison to Miss Elsie Flack

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 4 April 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

On last Sunday Mr. John Harrison and Miss Elsie Flack surprised their Milburn friends by driving to Tishomingo where they were united in marriage, Rev. Holland of the Baptist Church performing the ceremony. From Tishomingo they went to Ravia for a few days, guests of the groom’s sister.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Flack and is a young lady of rare beauty of both face and mind, and is capable of filling the home she will adorn with happiness, and will make a true helpmate for the husband she has chosen.

The groom is from one of our best families, he has been raised from childhood in this neighborhood, and no young man stands higher in the estimation of all as a high minded energetic young man than he does.

The News joins their many friends in wishing them much happiness, and a good share of prosperity.

Has anyone come across a Robert Flack, born 1859 in Co Monaghan in their research? Unfortunately I don't know where specifically in Monaghan he was from. His father was also called Robert Flack and I believe the family were Presbyterians.

He later moved to Irvinestown (aka Lowtherstown) Co Fermanagh where he ran a grocers and a pub until his death in 1909.

Hi,
A while back, I sent for an obit from the Wisconsin Historical Society files. Copied on the same page as mine, was an obit for "William E. Flack, Elkhorn Druggist 47 years, dies." As yours seems to be the only message on the Flack board that mentions the right county, I thought I would see if this item is of interest to you. The clipping was from the Janesville Gazette & dated Apr 30 1943.
It stated that he was the son of Mr & Mrs James D Flack.
Hope this reaches you or someone who is interested, it's been over 8 yrs since the original posting!!

Regards
Larry

I've been looking for info on Levi Flack and wife Nora Jane Harper who had a son, Bert born in Council
Bluffs on 2 Feb 1902. Does any of this fit any of your Flack's? I've had no luck finding any of them in any census records or anything until Bert marries in KC, MO in 1935. Any connections or stray info you might have lying around?
