Rita M. (Hock) Flanigan, 80,
a resident of Erie passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at her home. She was born February 18, 1928 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Andrew and Minnie Kaufmeil Hock. Rita was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy in Pittsburgh, and worked as an administrative assistant for American Standard Co. in Pittsburgh, following graduation. After moving to Erie, she worked in furniture sales. Active in her community, Rita volunteered at Our Lady’s Christian School, where her children attended. She also was a longtime volunteer at the Regional Cancer Center, the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, and the Kid’s Cafe. An avid golfer, she belonged to Lakeshore Country Club’s “9 hole group.” A longtime member of St. Jude Catholic Church,
Rita was a daily Mass attendant.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Rita is survived by her husband, John W. Flanigan; a daughter, Kathleen Norris, and her husband, Jeff, of Washington, DC; three sons, Joseph Flanigan and his wife, Janice, of Dallas, Texas, Michael Flanigan and his wife, Vivina, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Fritz Flanigan of Pittsburgh. She is the beloved grandmother of Patrick, Liam, and Connor Flanigan, and Jack, Mary and Casey Norris. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9th & Liberty St. Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
