Walter,
Thanks for the reply. We don't know if he had a brother. Given other Flannery behavior I have seen over the years... I would not be surprised if he did and they were estranged or if they were just too busy to remain connected.

Feel free to pass on information about a Patrick with a brother John, especially if the parents names match. I have always thought that he came to the US through New York but have read articles recently of many Irish in the 1840s getting free travel to Canada and then moving south to the US by land or Coastal Ship.

Thanks again for the reply.

Sean

Patrick Flannery, born Ireland 1838 died NY 1900, parents Micheal and Bridget

My earliest known paternal ancestor is Patrick Flannery who was born on March 28, 1838 in Ireland and died January 15, 1900 in the Town of Newburgh, County of Orange, in the State of New York. His parents were Michael and Bridget Flannery of Ireland but I have no other information about them. I have no idea if they remained in Ireland or what County or Town they came from, or birth dates. DNA testing through the Flannery Clan website shows we are most likely from Abingdon (County Limerick) and Dingle (County Kerry).
My grandmother Flannery (Patrick’s daughter-in-law) destroyed all of the books and documents from Ireland during or shortly after World War II when the local Bank foreclosed on the family farm while my father and his brothers were fighting in Europe and the South Pacific with the US Army. Because of this, we have little documentation concerning Patrick other than his naturalization paperwork. We have no date of his arrival to the US but he was naturalized as a US citizen on October 12, 1868 by the Supreme Court of State of New York, City and County of New York (now Manhattan). At the time a minimum of two years residency was required prior to naturalization. His naturalization paperwork includes an address of 66 Centre Street, New York City and a witness; Charles Finnegan. We have US Census information for Patrick and family for 1870 and 1880, and his remaining family 1900 and 1910.
Patrick married the former Alice Cooney who was born on Feb 22, 1844 in Ireland and died May 27, 1910 in the Town of Newburgh, County of Orange, in the State of New York. She arrived to the US in 1850. We assume they married in 1865 because according to census information their first son William was born in New York in 1866.
I am interested in when Patrick got here, and if his parents might have been with him. Any cross ocean connection would be great.

Thank you for your assistance,
Sean P. Flannery
Re: Patrick Bridget Flannery

Thank you, Lisa, for the information. In reading your other posts, it does appear that many of the family names are similar. My gf's name was Patick Michael; ggf's name was John and gggf's name was Patrick. Names of Patrick's other children are in my origional post of 2000. I'm not sure when this Patrick came over from Ireland. We do know, from his tomb stone, that he was born in County Galway, Ireland, approximately 1834. One of our records indicates he had a sister named Julia. During one of my trips to Galway, I looked up some county records, but found no families with names of Patrick and Julia of similar ages. The town you referenced may in fact provide this missing link that I have been in search of for some time, although have had very little time in doing so in recent years. My gggf Patrick, who was born in 1834, named his first son Michael. If Patrick repeated the tradition of naming his first son after his father, then, Patrick's father may in fact be the same Michael that you referenced in your family line (born 1805). Can you send me any other family information you have of Michael's family, specifically children's names and birthdates? Thank you. Regards, Mike Flannery mpflannery@aol.com

All I can tell you is that from the naming pattern your family and mine originated in Loughrea, Bullaun Ireland. The common ancestor is Micheal Flannery born in 1805. Reltive are still there, although many including my gf came to US in early 1900's.

Hi John, quick update for you. I am going to Ireland in May and have found a gentlemen over there who knows the Flannery family to whom I am related (sounds like you are too). He is going to give us a tour of Kiltullagh and introduce to family members, both Flannery's and Stankards. I could not find any more info on the Boston family you spoke of, but any more info would be great. Is there anythhing I can share with family from you? Happy to do it

Lisa

MY GGF was also John, with two marriages, the second wife being named Bridget Stankard.
Hi
I am a little rusty since when I am not doing research, I tend to totally change gears. If you give me awhile, I'll try and sort out what I have found. I have a stack of info that give clues that I intend to follow.

As far as I have the info: Elijah's folks were Allen Berry Grace and Charlotte Flearny Mackelyea ( she has many spellings of her name and her actual parentage of Elijah is disputed by some..ie stepmom or some other. )

Here is a website that traces the family back to Nathaniel Grace born in 1648 in Ireland or England. I am not positive how Allen Berry Grace fits ( he is not on this family tree, but I think his grandfather may be....) See what you can sort out. Greenberry Grace ( 1772) Grandfather of Allen Berry is listed at the bottom of page one. Beware: there are a multitude of Solomon Graces.

http://marjorienorris0.tripod.com/outofattala/id14.html

The following site supports this

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Allen,Ber...

This site mentions the Graces of Kansas

http://ntgen.tripod.com/bw/to_ks.html

I'll be glad to share more in awhile when I get back to
my research. Would love to hear anything more about Elijah.
Is it true that he was had a twin sister Eliza?

I am a descendant of Lena Grace ( 1881) the daughter of Elijah and Julia. And you?

Hi Patrick
I am looking for my Granfather Michael Flannery who married Annie Ginty, both from Killcummin parish Co Mayo. They left one child Mary with family to move to Glasgow in 1928. They never returned to Ireland and lost contact completely. Mary Flannery would now be around around 81 years old.
Have you come across them in your research?

Anne

Flannery, nee Birmingham or Bermingham

My GGF, James Joseph Flannery (b 1863) and his brother Michael (b 1864) were the sons of Michael (which may be incorrect) and Mary Birmingham. They were born in Ballinrobe, Co. Galway.

I show a Mary Birmingham (b 1836) as the daughter of Patrick Bermingham (sic) and Honor Mullowneym but can't trace her any further back.

GGGF Michael married Mary in 1857m but other than that, I have no further information.

Does anyone have any additional data to share?

Thanks,
Steve
