I happened to look through this web site as my family name once had this spelling and as I can read some German here is a translation of the obit--hope it helps.
DEATH NOTICE
God the Almighty in his wisdom chose to call our dear unforgettable father home. Phillip Flath II Business man and Director of the District Savingsbank Association passed away after a long and difficult illness which he suffered with much patience, early this morning at 4.45AM in his 78th year.
We would request observance of quiet sympathy.
Butzbach(there seems to be a spelling error here as a vowel is missing--I have replaced it with an"a") Karlsruhe,Hoechst'(i.D.'--this is a district designation I am not familiar with but Karlsruhe is in the state of Baden-Wuertemberg Germany--my ancestors also came from near there)
the 31st of March 1905.
He is survived by his grieving family
Wilhelm Flath Government Advisor
Louis Flath Businessman
Adele Flath
the internment will take place next Sunday April 2 at 1PM.

I found Cora on the 1900 & 1910 census of Mongomery County OH. In 1900, her mother, Mary Sigler, was living with the family ... but I haven't yet located the Sigler line. It's possible that her father was Peter Sigler, but I'm not sure.

I have a postcard sent to my great-grandmother in 1910 from "Cousin Cora Flath" and am looking for information on Cora to see how she is related or where she is from. I have attached scans of both sides of this postcard.

The card was sent to Miss Stella Sigler (Stella Sophia Sigler - later married George Edward Hinkle). Stella is the daughter of Samuel Ira Sigler and Minnie Botkin, granddaugher of Samuel C. Sigler & Sopia Young and Robert Botkin & Barbara Sheets.

Hi Mark,
I don't think we are in the same line, but you never know.
Most of my grandfather's uncles settled in Canada from German/Austria, but his father came to the states in 1907. One sister travelled back and forth between the two a lot. My grandfather was Jacob Otto Flatt and then Robert Jack Flath. The Canadian part of the family kept the Flatt spelling.
Our family moved to Holyoke Mass, before settling in Detroit.
My computer crashed just before Christmas, so I lost some stuff, but we also moved 2 years a ago to a smaller house and I'm still trying to get my family records together in one spot. I can probably answer anything you need to know from my head, though. I'm having a problem remembering the town they lived in in Europe, without digging through books, but I'm hoping it comes to me. You can email me at
mmcenteg@tampabay.rr.com if you want.
Bye for now,
Sheryl

Sheryl. Sorry this has taken so long to answer. We have been having quite the time figuring out if it is FLAHT or FLATH. My husband's grandfather has always gone by FLAHT but we have found one of his brother's buried in Debolt, Alberta and his name was spelled FLATH. If you could e mail me at my e mail address I would like to get more information.

Looking for any information about an Andreas Floth who was born abt 1873 in Brunnental, Samara, Russia. He came to the US in Dec of 1909 and was heading for Lincoln NE. It appears that his wife might have been sick and was still in Libau awaiting a ship to the US.....any info on this family would be appreciated.

Name of ship: SS Haverford
Depart Liverpool Dec 1, 1909
Arrive Philadelphia Dec 15, 1909
Line 6. Flatt, Andreas, age 35, male, married, farm laborer,
German from Russia, last residence Brunenthal.
Nearest relative in Russia: WIFE, Marie Katrina Flott, LIBAU, RUSSIA
Going to: friend, Jacob Walter, 1124 N 10th, Lincoln NE
Ticket paid by self, $5.00 in pocket -- 5' '7" tall, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, b Brunnenthal Russia
=============
Then a note about naturalization: March 8, 1919 1600/12709
and another note: July 6, 1942 242?826-21-23744- C/A
(these notes were written in when he applied for naturalization, and they go back to the ship lists and verify when the person entered the US......the dates and numbers represent either the intent to naturalize #'s of the application or the actual naturalization #'s)

So, that means Andreas came to the US, and it appears that he was here in 1919 and 1942.............I've searched and searched, but cannot find him on any censuses yet. I've tried with a variety of spellings of the name: Flatt, Flaht, Floth, Flath, etc

I saw your query on the Flath message board. I remember your Greatgrandmother Lydia Flath Mathias. They lived in my hometown of Garrison, North Dakota. In fact we are related. The Metz and Flath families are cousins. Lydia was the daughter of Jacob Flath and Margaretha Strom. This family along with a number of others immigrated to the US in 1903 from the village of Kloestits, Bessarabia in southern Russia. I know all of the Flath family well. Jacob had to brothers named Johann and David who also came to ND. Jacob's parents were
Johann Flath and Friedricka Schaefer. They did not come to America and died in the 1930's in Russia. I am reseaching all these families. I have photos of most of them and would be happy to share these with you. I went to Russia in 1996 and went to Kloestitz. I was also back to ND this summer. Please let me hear from you ! A distant cousin, Ron Metz

I saw something on another Flatt forum tonight showing a line of German Flaths that may be the same ones that went to Pennsylvania. Would like to see how you match up with others.
http://www.halcyondays.com/flatt click on DNA

Cindy,
I do have some information on Arthur C. Bankson and his family. However, some of it is conjecture and has not been proven. I would like to trade information with you to see what information I have that matches with what you have.

Arthur C. Bankston born 4 Feb. 1823 in Illinois. Died 16 Apr. 1890 in Lincoln County, Washington and buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Sprague, Lincoln County, Washington. Arthur C. Bankson married 1) Milly Ann Bone 19 Aug 1849 in Shelby County, Illinois. I do not have the children from this marriage.
Arthur Bankson married 2) Lydia "Lillie" M. Huffman 16 Feb 1861 in Shelby County, Illinois.

Childrern of this marriage are: 1) Laura A. Bankson born Apr. 1863 in Illinois.
2) Ida May Bankson born May 1868 in Missouri. Ida May Bankson married John Henery Flatt.
3) Annie Bankson born Abt. 1871 in Illinois.

I believe the father of Arthur C. Bankson to be the Reverend Elijah Bankson born abt. 1792 in Georgia and his first wife Rachel Crocker. I believe the children of Elijah Bankson and Rachel Crocker are:
1) Mahala "Mahaly" Bankson born abt. 1812 in Illinois.
2) Marshall H. Bankson born abt. 1813 in Illinois. Marshall married Rebecca Helm.
3) Stephen D. Bankson born abt. 1817 in Illinois and died 1896 in Washington; buried in Sherman/Creston Cemetery, Lincoln County, Washington. Stephen married Jerusha Gibson
4) Arthur C. Bankson (your line)
5) Mariam Bankson born abt. 1826. Mariam married Eli Sapp.
6) Lydia Bankson born 19 Oct. 1828 in Fayette County, Illinois. Lydia married Joseph Beck. She died 29 Oct. 1892.

What is your line?
